- For British fans there’s a real sense of optimism building down at the Port Vell in Barcelona with INEOS Britannia launching their new AC75 for the first time and getting the initial tow-test period and sail-fitting procedure underway on a very long day for the sailors and support team. In the water by 10.15am with the mast up and a swarm of technicians and sailors working diligently through the systems checks, INEOS Britannia was a hive of delighted activity throughout the morning, with a sense of anticipation that could almost be bottled.

I like it, a lot. Thought it looked ugly when revealed. Have to say I agree with Mozzy sails thoughts. Looks much better on the water & actually liking the paint job too now. Glad they’ve done something different
Big congrats to the Brits for launching what looks to be a very smart and innovative boat that has the potential to compete well in this wonderful event.
Rudder foil well aft of the vertical blade, rudder foil curves and anhedral consistent with design for download, rudder canted all the way forwards for tow when the tow force is much lower than sail centre of effort and therefore less bow down moment. Looks like mozzie might be on to something
Great to see this boat out on the water ..well done Ineos...looking forward to all the testing upcoming
Dunno if I have faith in Giles after his performance in SailGP. Hannah Mills should be in that spot!
It's incredible how many negative comments about Britannia there are in every video I've seen. Do people actually hate this yacht _that_ much??
Hanging on in (not so) quiet desperation is the English way
Anti English is across the net from the former British empire natives.
I think the weight forward of the foil is amazing for large sea states. I think this will lessons big take offs and crash downs. Very interesting design and could definitely get to the cup match.
Tows like a BRICK
Very interesting! The boat I am most curious about, by some margin. Optimistic about the design decisions here.
Why are all of these interviews so generic? Is there a single question or answer that would not be true for any other team? This kind of journalism just makes the whole thing very boring!
The problem is that they never answer the interesting questions properly
I'm not here for the journalism
Because they’re not allowed to say very much.
I think the footage and interviews are part of the class rule. Implemented to stop teams spying which can be costly.
Agree though…. Boring at times. Unless you’re a super fan geek like me. I love them.
It didn’t catch on fire and no one fell off?
😂
After watching this I'd say Mozzy nailed it
1. Auto bow-down mode!
2. All recon teams must surely be watching CZcamsr Mozzy Sails for the best analysis and his videos should be the starting point for all AC recon interviews
nah
So a CZcamsr, albeit a good one, has better analysis of the teams development than the world class engineers who actually work for the competitors 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@Mahalo_83the guy said as a basis for interviews not design...! The interviewers questions are too open although I suspect that the interviewees are never going to say much even if the questions were more specific.
@@roythompson6137 read it again bud, “All recon teams must surely be watching…”
Whinge, moan, grumble, complain🤣
Cheer up folks.
That's true.
Life's short and we're wasting it watching billionaires with their toys....
@@kiwioffgrid2437Are you from NZ as well?
@@mattcaldwell9643 why does that matter?
@kiwioffgrid2437 I am too.
Are they new foils or of their last AC boat?
I want to see some racing already
Sure hope Ainslie is involved in this. Scott it tanking in Sail GP......
“Goes as well as it looks…” Hmmm (I’m a Brit lol)
oh dear
T'was the time when English design in function and form led the world, but the straight descending aft section and colouring looks toy-town. Embarrassing.
I would think they will learn from the last cup and should look into what team New Zealand have done over the years .. team New Zealand has being setting the standard designing there boats .. but I could be wrong cos it looks like they going for something similar to formula one cars with there aerodynamic design.. all the best team ..
I woul like to remember, that during the last america cup in NZ, the american boat, was fastest before capsized. Very unlucky the americans in that occasion.
If they try to copy NZ then it will always be catch up. You dont win by copying, you win by gambling. You have to try something new to win.
With race cars you are trying to prevent air flowing under the vehicle from ahead to behind. In foiling sailboats you're trying to prevent it from windward side to leeward side. It's not clear to me they've entirely adjusted to this crucial difference.
Looks heavy in tow. All the best lads.
Do you know the data? Tow speed, height off water? What their objectives were?
@@roythompson6137 I thought it was a slow tow speed.
@@davidLPST yes, exactly. First time on the water it's normal.
@@roythompson6137english normal
@@richiec6372?
Struggling to keep bow up on the tow..looks like all the weight is on rudder..better hope she's strong
to me looks like it wasnt trying to keep the bow up trying to go bow down for speed like mozzy sails suggests if you look at the bussle its level with the water
Your imagining it.....
Never mind the boat, let’s discuss the sailing team. How have they gone in the one design foiling classes? 😬 The designs will converge this cup, it’s all down to the way the team first develops the boat then races it.
🤔
The Italian boat looks the best
That Kiwi boat probably has the most interesting technology under the hood
The Swiss boat has the most radical whole shape
That British butt looks pretty unconventional like it did in the last cup cycle I feel like it’s a white elephant
The American boat hasn’t launched yet, but I am assuming it’s gonna look pretty conservative
And the French could go either way, but they both probably won’t be super fast
I see you tried to hide your insult.....
It looks like it actually wants to be a submarine. Like it can't wait to get under the water as opposed to.....out of the water. 🎉
We don't have any context as to what they were trying to achieve. They're not towing out prior to a test sail, they said that was not on the agenda due to conditions.
They are probably starting by testing the control systems and structures under tow, which would require applying input values across the whole range. If so, they may have had the rudder kicked forward during the brief period of the clip, whereas you seem to assume they would be at all times trying to trim for optimum flight.
Damn she flies nose down. AOA must generate significant downforce on the rudder
Well, that may be the intent. If you look closely at the other teams they all seem to fly with their bows low. It's not exclusive to INEOS but the Brits may have designed their boat to fly nose down by default.
A lot of what Mozzy sails were speculating becomes apparent in this tow test - bow down skeg design and that rudder is definitely doing something different…
Something else for Mozzy and others to speculate about - at the end, after the sail is up - the boom seems to have shrouding wide enough for a technician to work inside. Are INEOS just hiding how the main sheet works, or is that 'tent' from 'boom' to deck going to be deployed in sailing? Its very odd how wide it is!
Somehow looks too bulky, but who knows ?
That corner ahead of the rudder looks like an invitation to cavitate the rudder wing during turns.
It is the same design as their LEQ12, is it not?
overfinning will be the crime.
Bhe bello non è
Nope!
Poor poms, all that $,just to be 1st eliminated
Can you give me the link to the news they have been eliminated please?
…” there is a lot amount of hours on the boat…” , that’s not English, dude, you mean there are many many hours, or great many, or great number of hours of work on the boat already, ah yes, now I gotcha
Nice 🤔🙂
Look up. That thing, way over your head: it’s the point.
He said “man-hours” not “many hours”. I was able to understand it and I’m not even a native speaker. So maybe, just maybe, you’re at fault here.
@@kodoj4358 yeah, nice try. There are many man hours, not there is a lot of amount
Crazy how sub standard our English has become, the media leading the way in some horrendous terminology.
I'M a big fan of Lzna Rossa. But Alinghi, and Ineos new creatures, are very ,very interest, and scarry me alot. The American boat is intetest too.Sinuous lines. We well see,but i think luna rossa have a lot.to work to do!!!!In Alunghi i see a lot of red bull f1 touch.
Sure looks ugly - and ugly is rarely fast. Britain has been trying radical designs for 170 years with no success. Let's hope they know something the others don't or we're heading for our 38th consecutive defeat. It doesn't calm the nerves to know that NZ went for an incremental design and it's looking great on the water....
So before INEOS even sets sail you have an opinion....my guess is you are a Kiwi.
@@dulls8475 No - I'm a Brit who has been following our AC campaigns for 60 years - so I've earned the right to be cynical. We keep coming up with radical designs that don't work - and we did this yet again last time around with pretty woeful results. Meanwhile the Kiwis have an evolutionary design and it looks solid. Luna Rossa too. As I say, I hope the Britannia team know something the others don't but experience has taught me not to get my hopes up.
@@dulls8475 I'm a Kiwi, (English-born, but in NZ since 1963) and I didn't think he was a Kiwi commenting.
I'm a Brit also and have to say I go along completely with your views. Lets hope we're mistaken.
@@BeachcomberNZ What are the clues?
