  • If you are using Black and Decker trimmer to trim the grass, sometimes you might notice that the trimmer line would keep coming out and too much line in the end.
Normally, you could control how much the trimmer line out through the button on the trimmer.
However, sometimes it just does not work and you have to disable the auto trimmer line feed and change it to the manual way.
As shown in the video above, you have 2 ways to do this, first is to apply tape on the feeding component.
Another way is to simply wind the trimmer string in another direction to make it manual feed.

Here's my post on other possible reasons that cause the trimmer to feed too much line:

HELP! I have the same weed eater. My problem is the string keeps breaking off at the head. I am not stupid. I am using the correct, .065 line. I have tried 2 different lines spools from amazon, one after market, one OEM. I went to Lowes and purchased real B&D line spool. I have checked the feed hole, the little rocker gizmo, new cap, everything is clean. It will work ok when I use it level, but when I tip it up 90* to the ground it breaks the line and I have to take it apart and restring it. I even put the line in water like the web said, maybe the line is dried out, not. WTF!

The problem is to replace the string feed lever.

Yes. I am looking for a video to do just that. And where to get the part.

@@Susan70003 Amazon. That didn’t fix mine but I discovered if I hold the trigger down it uses a fairly normal amount of string.

Mine does the opposite... It retreats back into the spool as soon as you press the button. Can't even touch the ground and the line is gone, take it apart and try again and same thing over and over again. Nearly turned my weed wacker into a frisbee, its overdue needing done and I have no solutions

Same here. I'm trying to find the correct method or solution to fix the issue 🤔

I tried winding the line on backwards and now it doesn't auto feed anymore line out. I put a metal zip tie around mine instead just so I could finish my lawn

Once it's manual - how do you get more string to come out?

This is just like printers and their cartridges.

Terrible design, send the engineers of this atrocity back to elementary school.
After the very first trim, the entire head came out as the bearing holder melted jamming the mechanism and the motor gear made quick work of the plastic assembly. Do not buy this product, please
