  • Cooperation is one of the few ways that you can get a reduction of your sentence in a federal criminal case. There are pros and cons to this process and you have to make sure that you have an experienced federal criminal defense attorney to guide you and protect you through the process.

Let’s assume one cooperates and gets time off their sentence you have to now hope the BOP scores your points really low so that you are sent to camp or a low security prison. If you are assigned medium points or more you will end up in a medium security facility or Penitentiary. Now Here is what was not discussed in this video. When you are sentenced paperwork is generated. This paperwork itemizes everything regarding your case. If you cooperate, that will be in that paperwork. Now a few weeks later after sentencing you will be transferred to a federal holding facility while your criminal history is looked over at a bop office in Grand Prairie Texas. This is where your points come from because the BOP uses a point system to determine your security level. In minimum security prisons in the Federal system inmates will NOT you for your “paperwork” so if you cooperated, no one will not only know they won’t care. In the mediums and especially the Pens ( USP’s or Penitentiary’s) inmates will no doubt request to read your “paperwork” and will give you literally 30 days to have it mailed to you. If you fail to do this you are quite literally risking your life as the prison guards will be of no help and frankly they don’t care. Now you can cooperate and when you are transferred to the bop you can do what is known as “ checking in” or go to segregation ( there is no protective custody in the Bop) Upon arrival to your prison officers will board the bus you arrived on and announce to everyone on board that it’s recommended you check in if you cooperated. Any you’ll actually see guys get up and go in the check in line. My advice as a former Federal Prisoner is to weigh how much time you will have to serve because the US attorneys don’t really offer that much time off to where it’s makes much difference unless you have knowledge of a huge case like a murder of major drug case it’s not worth it because serving time after you cooperate is essentially a waiting game of when someone finds out you cooperated so you’ll be looking over your shoulder for literally years … that’s hard time in the Feds , where in mediums where i was (FCI Hazelton) everyone walked around with crudely made knives. These prisons are over crowded and unbelievably short staffed there were fights in my housing unit daily and the officers never even knew because it’s to many ppl moving around to notice

I know someone back in high school who was involved in a drug conspiracy and subsequently was involved in a murder of a co-defendant turned government witness. He received a life sentence but didn't serve a day in prison, he uses a different name nowadays and relocated to another state. Is it possible that he somehow became an informant and is in the witness protection program? It's really strange.

Anytime there is a 5k1 the judge departs a certain amount of levels ? Example guy has a psi of level 37 category 2 after acceptance then get 5k1 to end up with 120 months. What level did the judge depart to?

A relative facing a possible 7 year term for a victimless crime DID cooperate as he was part of a group engaged in the same actions. His cooperation got him a reduced sentence of just one year and one day in prison, in fact the judge in his case dropped 15 months off the lowest recommended sentence for his crime because of his cooperation. He ended up serving only 7 months in prison, thanks to the lower sentence and the first step act. Got that? seven months instead of 7 years! This was not a hard-core case and was not a violent crime and his cooperation and guilty plea proved to be a tremendous help when it came to reducing his sentence. On top of all of that, his time was served in a federal prison camp instead of a higher security level facility.

your comment gave you away that you have never lived this life. you watch too much TV and movies. there is zero loyalty in the criminal underworld at all.The only people who actually keep their mouths shut and do hard time are people with an IQ of 50 and also never really valued their freedom in the first place. I actually lived that life for real and I know everybody flips as soon as they're facing hard time. The truth is the FBI is way more intelligent and far more capable than any cartel or smuggling organization. Why do you think so many high level cartel guys are dead or in prison.... the other bosses have hide under a rock hoping the FBI or DEA doesn't fast rope into their hiding place. I suggest you realize that TV and movies are not real life.
