When my younger sister got married, she wanted her wedding pictures to appear "timeless" - so they didn't look like a typical 80's or 90's wedding. She wore a Victorian type of wedding gown with her hair in similar victorian style. The pictures and the wedding are beautiful.

Gosh, I wish I lived in the 19th century! I love the fashion, the homes, the modesty, and the etiquette. When I'm able to buy my own home, I want to buy a Victorian Home and furnish it with either 19th century styled furniture or actual 19th century furniture. I personally think the women from that time period had more dignity, and dressing nicer, Victorian, Edwardian, and periods before that, in my opinion most often make them look better, and to me more apealing, as I dress more or less like I am from the 1880/90 time period from out west, I personally have great interest in the early frontiersmen( the longhunters and early fur trappers our west), I also greatly old technology, I am not fond of electronics and bright lights, which is why when I am not at school I try to escape back in time, at least as best I can, which sometimes is not as easy as I wish it was, I plan to do something similar to what they are when I am older, but a more First Nation outlook, dressing in Lakota and Cheyenne style of clothing, as I am fond of buckskins and items from that period, but I also enjoy Victorian era items quite well, I am fond of times gone past, and do and make as many of the things that I may need, repairing clothes and making pouches and most anything else I may need, but I do thank for some modern things, the internet, for example has allowed me to greater increase my knowledge and learn new recipes for foods, and how to use certain tools and to learn about nature more easily and learn how to do a lot of things that I would most likely never be taught by my father and the rest of my relatives, I, so far, have taught myself most of the things I use, math that I have to do in school right now is giving me nothing but headaches, but I can try to slip back in time as best I can when I get home, but since school started again after spring break, I have come to the realization that I really have no time at all, for now school takes my free time at home away also, time I need to use on better things, replacing buttons, fixing small bags, fixing old sewing that is coming apart or breaking, for the coat I wear was my grandfathers navy dress coat, it is old, as he passed some years ago, I have recently been sewing up the armpits in it as the stitching has been torn on now my left arm where it is sewn to the body of the coat, I have already stitched the right arm where it meets the coat body under the arm for it is not loose enough in the shoulders so It has torn the treads so the sewing is starting to some undone, I have already redeem the buttons on at least once for the bottom three on each side, and one I have done twice for I had popped it off one day by accident, the liner around the bottom needs fixed from where the tag on the back right pocket of my wrangler jeans has torn it, but it is all a constant fix and use, fix and use, as most things are until you get good enough to where you can easily fix it and last a long time, but along the way my sewing skills have improved, and I have learned valuable things that I plan to pass on
Oh, I'm so glad to see this! For the past few years I've been dressing and crafting my home to be more and more mid-Victorian (my focus is late 1840's through to mid 1860's). But I am absolutely atrocious at hairstyling, and have a total of two historical hairstyles that I am capable of crafting as of yet. This ought to be a great help!
Not being obnoxious, but she's hiding her teeth. Sarah didn't want to wear her retainer after her mother spent all that money on braces so her teeth shifted back. She's self-conscious about it. I find that ironic about not wearing the retainer because she had the discipline to wear the corset 23 hours a day!😣

Very nice! I plan to try this in the morning. May I suggest that when you wrap the hair in the first circle on the bun, put in 4 hair pins at 12, 3, 6, 9. It helps as an anchor for the rest of the bun. I think your lifestyle is facinating. I used to do this sort of thing. Oil lamps, treadle sewing machine, cast iron skillet, wringer washing machine, long homemade dresses. It was fun while it lasted. I miss it too. It kept me busy and I felt better accomplishing things. God bless both you and your husband.

Old ways? As someone with frizzy, unmanageable hair that hardly grows... this is not possible for me and I doubt for many women even back then. Putting my hair up like that - which I have to dry it would come out in random pieces and eventually would fall out. Also, corsets disturb your breathing. Approving of these old times is approving for the lack of female rights. Women of that time weren't meant to understand things, they were meant to be pretty and hopefully someone would marry them. You approve of that lifestyle? Weirdo.
I was referring to their "old way" of life in general. They live simply, in that they have no cell phones or TV, and I don't think they have a car. While wearing a corset is not something I would want to do every day, I admire them for doing their own thing, and without modern conveniences.

Food is a joke today, because it contains only a percentage of the nutrients that food contained only seventy years ago. Music and the media in general is saturated with sex and debauchery, and no longer contains any substance, nor does it require any talent. Sure, history has its flaws, but you have to admit that human relations were better back then. People cared about their neighbors and they made a point to get together and be a community. They cooked REAL food and they learned REAL life skills and trades to make money so that they could feed their families, because if they didn't they would starve. I could go on and on about how much better things were only sixty years ago, but no matter how I wish for things to go back to how they were, they will only continue to get worse. Food will decline in quality and increase in price (especially if minimum wage is raised to 15 an hour), people will continue to become more and more sociopathic and isolated from the world, clothes will continue to become more scandalous until people are essentially walking around in nothing, we will continue to shut down and prosecute people for exercising their free speech rights because it might "hurt people's feelings", and we will continue to back down like a bunch of tranquilized pussies while our rights are slowly stripped away from us because it's what we've been conditioned to do.
Can you do a video on how you light and clean out your stove, and maybe a few videos on how you sew a Victorian dress? You should also put ads up on your videos. You can make money that way.

I choose to wear 1400's Ireland clothing. Whether I am grocery shopping, going to church, or going to put gas in the car. Although my home is modern, my attire is not. I do take quite a bit of heat from the feminists for my choice. Which I find very interesting. As a woman, I choose to dress unconventionally, and yet, feminists believe I should not have this right to dress as I wish. I do get far more compliments though, and as an added bonus, I never am at a loss for something to wear for the yearly Renaissance Faire!
Please do not paint all of us feminists with the same negative brush. I’m proud to be a feminist and I also dress in vintage whenever I can. I do not care what someone else is wearing or how they live their lives, all I hope is that they’re happy. As a feminist I simply believe that everyone should be equal, have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else, and have complete control over their lives and bodies but if someone doesn’t agree with my believes then that’s totally fine with me too. The clothing you choose to dress in is beautiful and I’d never hate on you nor anyone else for what they choose to wear or not wear.

I watched an interview she did with Lucy's Corsetry where she said she bicycles to get around and doesn't drive. She said she did a 120 mile round trip to visit a friend. Pretty impressive!
Whatever was available in Victorian time, the Chrismans will use. No air travel, obviously. But pretty much everything else- bike, car, bus, train, ship. If I'm not mistaken. She is an avid hiker and biker- so much for what one "can't do" wearing a corset. 😉
I don´t see how that kind of pin can hold up so much hair. My hair is long, heavy and straight. Even with rubber bands and long, heavy bobby pins such as are used for curlers, the pins fall out and everything falls apart.
On her website she mentions she washes her hair with Kirk's Castile soap. I started using it too and it makes my hair a little more textured so twists hold together better than when I used to use shampoo that made my hair silky and slippery.
She also has fine textured hair, and it's not super full/heavy. You can see how thin towards the ends it is when she flips her head back up in the beginning of the tutorial after underbrushing it. That makes a huge difference.

But if you're young, I can see where it would take the proper social environment to not be snubbed by your peers. I happen to live like the Amish and am 62. At 62, you have VERY few friends and at 62, you no longer care what ANYONE thinks.....it's very freeing actually. I'm finally who I always knew I was.....which means I always saw myself as being born in the wrong century. In fact, I'm planning to move to Tombstone, Az and buying a horse and buggy. Joseph Dockemeyer corsets aren’t uncomfortable. I wear one everyday from the time I get up til I go to bed, about 16 hours in total.

I watched an interview she did with Lucy's Corsetry where she said she bicycles to get around and doesn't drive. She said she did a 120 mile round trip to visit a friend. Pretty impressive!

No air travel, obviously. But pretty much everything else- bike, car, bus, train, ship. If I'm not mistaken. She is an avid hiker and biker- so much for what one "can't do" wearing a corset. 😉
I don´t see how that kind of pin can hold up so much hair. My hair is long, heavy and straight. Even with rubber bands and long, heavy bobby pins such as are used for curlers, the pins fall out and everything falls apart.
On her website she mentions she washes her hair with Kirk's Castile soap. I started using it too and it makes my hair a little more textured so twists hold together better than when I used to use shampoo that made my hair silky and slippery.
She also has fine textured hair, and it's not super full/heavy. You can see how thin towards the ends it is when she flips her head back up in the beginning of the tutorial after underbrushing it. That makes a huge difference.

@@rubylace9963 I wear them daily at home and everywhere. And there's nothing wrong with someone staring because you're a woman who's beautifully dressed like a woman. But if you're young, I can see where it would take the proper social environment to not be snubbed by your peers. I happen to live like the Amish and am 62. At 62, you have VERY few friends and at 62, you no longer care what ANYONE thinks.....it's very freeing actually. I'm finally who I always knew I was.....which means I always saw myself as being born in the wrong century. In fact, I'm planning to move to Tombstone, Az and buying a horse and buggy. Watch some Tombstone, Az videos and you'll see what I mean.
