You really Beautiful i admire you
I would love to watch the full video sometime.
I love cats
I'm loving this. Do I sense a possible book on "How we restored a Victorian house"? ❤
I've already written one of those: www.amazon.com/This-Victorian-Life-Adventures-Nineteenth-Century/dp/1510770801/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1ZXV8MCTTA44O&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.MsK5e243GxBhC37CieoiuKsJ7mUfSLLvmRNV0FYVWIHDvV4QvEbg05OLltVTJLTVj8C9byU0F3ZBTd1Ryv8DXzi7Gj02hwW7gbx4TMOb8lAvxr7oBZmYAhEqW035tE9760XsO3EmgenZyv3TSGSN9BVmIE7WsnoTRbscRqFyyOt7c1iIznazyLB8rBxCZ2OIqSBDFP_-snkOTSWTeks3fIgc7prl1txko3YtpOAUn3U.jD_8VMo2heGGFD-MI6LJFu4dEkNPDy6-QtdsmdehzTQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=This+Victorian+Life&qid=1721564870&sprefix=this+victorian+life%2Caps%2C110&sr=8-1
FANTASTIC talk, Sarah! I watched all 4 episodes. You've given the "why" behind the practice of manicured, "perfect" lawns. I think that goes a long way to shifting a person's perspective. Just because we've always done something a certain way, doesn't mean we have to continue to (including cutting the ham before putting it in the pan). I'm happy to have crabgrass and clover and dandelion and other beneficial "weeds" in my yard.
Fantastic video!
I'm obsessed with the history of American domestic gardening and I've really enjoyed this.
Thanks for the history of the lawn, fascinating.
Interesting video. Incidentally they still occasionally find wood waterlines in Detroit when they’re doing repairs!
Growing up, we only owned a manual reel mower, with oak handle. My father sharpened it. If you hit a little stick, it would suddenly stop. Lots of exercise. All my neighbors had power mowers. 1954-1980 : marriage year, Father's early death year, age 54.
Very fascinating! My yard is very unruly in town and wish I could have a couple of sheep loaned to me.
You really enjoy painting and personalizing your rooms. Love having the couch in the middle of the room. My cat Tort, age 9, says hello to your cats. Lovely progress on your home, delightful.
You have a great smile! What a neat video!
Thank you! I had a thought for a future video... I'm currently reading Rudyard Kiplings The Phantom Rickshaw. I'm enjoying it, though I've come across so many terms and phrases from the era that unfamiliar. Some of which I can't find any information about on google. Perhaps for Halloween time 👻
I did a video on Victorian slang about three years ago. Enjoy! :) czcams.com/video/V8whrpnpozE/video.html
Love the Hand painting on the walls.👏👏
Interesting talk, thank you for sharing.
I met you once in Seattle. I think at a talk at MOHAI or ??? Good to find you again.
Thank you❤
I love the simplicity and lifestyle of the Victorian era but I’m also very tech centered given I’m an animator lol. I would like to dive more into it though.
It's simple to use now because of the lack of modern tech that we have, but it was probably anything but simple to the people who lived during the era.
Another interesting and informative video from our favorite victorian! I always look forward to them!
Ive missed your videos Sarah!❤
The corsets being sold for $0.50 are from a trade catalogue though, right? So presumably a shop would buy them "Per dozen" and not the consumer?
Very interesting talk, thank you so much 😊
Amazing books and love the wallpaper and painting. I also like the dual lamps.
There's no wallpaper: that's all hand painted, by me. It was a lot of work…
I remember my mom used to have one of the bowls with the pitcher. Lovely video
Beautiful. Please be careful with possible derecho going through eastern Iowa later
Beautiful! I realy love all the painintgs on the walls and the roof!
My wife and I also try to experience the Victorian era. You are an inspiration to us. The hard part is getting the clothes, but soon we want to be like you.
What is the music from the intro?
I hope we will see some glimpses of your adventure and speech at Concordia, the photos are really beautiful ! We miss you overhere :)
I know this video is much older, I am inspired by older times in history and I admire your videos. I have to ask… do you wear makeup at all? What is your routine like for your skin? I was wondering if you followed more of a Victorian inspiration for that as well. I’d love to learn more.
Thank you for putting this up. Delightful piece of machinery there and very well presented by you.
In 2002, I feel flat on my face in love with Michael Chabon's novel "Wonder Boys" and read with a pen in hand as I marked up so many wonderful passages and words I didn't know the meanings of. This is how I have been reading the more prestigious titles since then. It's very rewarding, though it occasionally merits infinitely lighter titles.
I just happened onto your channel. Very enjoyable!
That was very interesting. I always knew it was the people you have to watch closer.
What is the name of the museum? It looks interesting
Like a lot of my videos, this one contains footage shot over the course of about seven years: it comes from five different museums (in two different time zones), the Iowa state library, my house, and a rural cemetery.
Please provide the full names of the books and authors so that we may reference them. Searching for "The+Woman's+Book" results in thousands of results.
I want a 1800s high wheeler so badly!!! 😩
Awesome video!
Exhibit seems to no longer be on tour. But the book is available in my library
Wonderful video. Thank you.
Great video Sarah, inspiring and uplifting . Well done. I will tell everyone about your books
Thank you so much for your support! <3 :)
I love your home!
I recently bought an antique Victorian washing bowl and jug, and use it every day to wash myself. It feels somehow wonderful that this jug maybe hasn't been used the way it was made to be for maybe over a hundred years, and now I am using it again. It feels as though, if washing jugs and bowls had souls, they'd be so happy and doing dances of joy to be used again. My goal is to do what you are doing, living in a home surrounded by Victorian everything. What was the first Victorian thing you bought, and when did you discover you wanted to make your home period accurate and dress that way too?
It's all in my books, "Victorian Secrets" and "This Victorian Life." Happy reading. :)
@@Victorianlady Hahaha your book is hilarious! Realised that your birthday is on or near my own birthday. Your adventures are so funny!
Thank You for explaining and pointing out how narrative is important and how it is build up. ❤
Fascinating! Such sweet little creatures ❤️
We have an old house, built in the early 1900s and upgraded over and over. I happened to find an old (1930s) handyman book at a secondhand store about 15 years ago that shows how to make household repairs. It's been very useful in understanding how parts of the house were built. We're not trying to restore the house to any era, we're just trying to make it livable. And of course CZcams videos have helped, if you can find someone who has filmed how to repair older houses. I had to take a window apart to fix the glass broken by hail. Looked up 1950s, then 1940s, then 1930s and found how to do it. AND got it back together again. 😂 When we tore off an old rotting porch roof we found some of the original siding. 1920s pressed tin with fake brick pattern. Apparently you bought sheets of it from the Sears store through the mail. It's fun, but constant repairs.
If you go to travel in my country (Cambodia) and you are wearing the victorian fashion you will be famous quickly in the social media...❤
I recently saw a video where the centimeter side was along the fabric edge and the slot in the middle was used to mark a perfect 1/4’ seam allowance.
So interesting!
