  • Over the last couple years we have been trying to perfect the way of loading our pigs onto a trailer. We have fought them for years, pushing and pulling them all over the place just to try and get them in it. After much deliberation, we had decided to hook up the trailer via a chute to the pen for several days and allow the pigs to get used to it being there. We slowly incorporated their feedings in the trailer over the period of 3 days (you could do longer if you want) and got them used to the trailer and feedings inside of it. The results, easy loading of pigs that takes less than 3 minutes to load them. Any questions let me know.

NICE VIDEO❗But, it looks to me that your rear door won't close cuz the ramp is in the way...... I have learned (the hard way) to setup for a week to prevent reluctant hogs. If you miss your butcher date it may take months to get scheduled back in. Also, hold food the day before loading to make sure the pigs will cooperate and finally, I try to get them to the butcher a day ahead of my butcher date to prevent stress and adrenaline in the meat. It makes for the highest quality pork 🐷

Rich Peterson Yeah we just stick a board over there and pull up the trailer and the ramp falls off. I agree depending on the temperament of the pigs you might need longer than I state in the video.

I thought you went "Sooie Pig!" to get them in to eat. Surprised me.

I really like your idea. Where can I get a trailer like that? I have not been able to find one in NC yet. Thanks.

That's pretty much how we loaded our pig but with a much more makeshift set up using pallots as teh way in and food to tempt her

FarmBoy Thanks for your video's! I'm still learning about pig farming and it helps to see it in action.

That is a nice set up. Do you sell your hogs live or butcher them? Any issues with un-loading?

Thanks! I don't sell my hogs live, I pre-sell them and then have them butchered. That is how I do it right now, might change in the future as I add more pigs. At the butcher we used there was not that much issue with unloading, it depends on the temperament of the pigs and how much you have spent time around them.
