I am an IT Director and your content is spot on. My path was very similar, from front line tech, to systems analyst, to architect, to PM, to management, to director. I will also testify that delegation requires a bit of letting go of your own quality standards. I've been an IT pro for over 35 years and I will say that most of the professional skills among my generational peers are not developed or practiced in the younger generation. Technical writing and diagramming are lost arts.

YOU FORGOT BY FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT SKILL ANY IT MANAGER SHOULD HAVE! Do you think a head chef can be someone who is bad or average at cooking? NO WAY! Only the top cooks can lead the team of cooks. Unfortunately this is far from reality in software development. I am a programmer with 20+ years of experience and I met many bad IT managers (around 75%) and only around 25% that were ok or good. All the good IT managers that I had were also a great developers with many years of experience in development before they became managers. All the bad managers were bad developers or had no experience as developers. Maybe they are good in handling their bosses with politics but they are usually so bad for the project progress that they do more harm than good. Imagine a bad cook giving a bad advice to a good cook about cooking... This is the life of a good programmer lead by the IT manager who has little development experience. Future IT managers should start working as software developer for at least 10 years and then only the best developers should become the IT managers.
I disagree with this. You don't compare cooks to programmers. It's like apple and orange. two different Industries. There are many good managers with bad development skills but can understand how a project works. Have you tried attending Product Managers convention or something, when you talk to them some of them are successful and they have a bad experience in programming.
Hey, i am 16 years old and i am interested in IT and Developing. It would be great to get some beginner tips because IT can be very complicated for me.

Is IT managers same as managment information systems?
I think MIS are more technical and work with systems directly, IT manager can manage MIS staff but not the opposite.
