      +von voncarstein actually...attending funerals, dressing up for weddings, making the effort when you go to visit your grandparents, dressing up for a date, brushing your hair for work, looking nice when you have friends over...you are definitely being disrespectful if you show up in jeans and a torn t-shirt with three days of sweat smell...or else you just don't care. litlsecret's point clearly went right over your head but oh well, stay classy you !!

    • @TrezCast
      @TrezCast Před 8 lety +4

      +von voncarstein I think it really depends on what you think "dressing up means", for me it just means looking sharp, like being clean (bath/hair removal/nail clipping), taking care of your skin (cleaning your face, adding face/eye/hand cream), and dressing well (clean ironed clothes that look good on you, even a pair of jeans with a nice shirt and nice shoes is fine).. I only put make up on for those special occasions..

      +von voncarstein A narcissist would assume whatever they choose to wear should be admired by everyone else, as you do...which would make you the narcissist. Glad to see you took my advice to stay classy.

      +von voncarstein There you go...a valid opinion stated without the drama. Personally, I slob out at home all the time, and the odd run to the supermarket...but I agree with Mimi that I have missed opportunities to socialise because I wasn't washed and ready to go earlier in the day and it's too much effort to do the whole routine just to have a coffee or go to the movies with someone at short notice. So now I shower/clean up first thing in the morning and can either slob out or go out spontaneously without having to think too much about it.

    I think this is very good advice, anyone who calls this shallow, let me tell you what shallow is.
    Shallow are the people who ask you 'Why are you dressing up?", people who call you pretentious for putting minimal effort into wearing a bra, panties and a dress, just because you are not in sweatpants or rags. Especially because you don't look like them. They are the shallow ones because they are the ones judging you for your appearance, for what you are dressing, just for wearing the clothes you like.
    There's nothing wrong in me wearing the clothes I love, if I don't wear them, what do I have them for? For special occasions that never come? One day you'll realize you are too old for these outfits you've always wanted to wear but never found the right time to. You know what's a special occasion? A special occasion is the day you realize you are not dead, the day you realize you still have two legs.
    You can wear a gown to the grocery store if you want to (I am not including places where there's a dress code to be followed like workplaces). And of course I'll stare at you and judge you, or maybe you'll make my day a little brighter because I just saw something beautiful. Whatever it is, whatever my problem it is with you wearing a gown, it doesn't matter, because nobody cares what I think!
    That is the problem with shallow people, that they think everybody cares about what they think, that people are gonna change to conform to them just because they care. They have to realize nobody cares that they care. I'll dress in my best princess outfit if I want to.
    It was thank to an article in rookiemag or something like that that I've realized that if you want to dress up everyday, it's fine.

I know when I sit home studying in a messy room, with empty plates all around me, wearing sweatpants, dirty hair I get more prone to being lazy and eating junk food than being alert and up going to learn things. I started to dress up initially to impress a boy in my year that I liked, with the hopes that he would notice me. I got rid of my glasses, wore contacts and started playing with make up too. But slowly over time it started to make such a huge difference in my confidence levels. Because it's YOU deciding in the morning that YOU'RE worth looking after. Choosing to wear a pretty dress with heels took the same amount of time it would have to grab a standard T-shirt with jeans. ( With make up a grand total of 25 mins =P ) . I've struggled with my self esteem, and never used to think that I was one of those girls who was pretty or the type that would make guys do a double take . But because I felt better it changed the way I saw things. Mimi mentions in her other video, but I also noticed that people were friendlier and smiled more when I dressed up. If you want to be a success you must first dress the part. You don't need expensive designer clothing - nearly all of my clothes are sale items from a British supermarket, but you need to pick key items that you like and work from there. I do have dress down days where it's just leggings and a basic T-shirt, but they make dressing up more fun. It is worth spending a bit more on quality items over quantity- if they're going to be worn everyday like coats and shoes. I dress up for myself now, but once you start one positive habit it spills into other areas of your life. Definitely worth trying for 7 days at first!

My mom lives next door to us so when people visit her I will freak out afraid that they will want to come and see me. This is true. The first thing any person see's is how you present yourself; the way you expose your personality through your style and how you walk etc. When I have lazy days and decide to go out in 'lazy clothes' I end up not feeling so great about myself, I even avoid my reflection! So I decide to just wear comfy clothes that are still chic and classy, so I feel good either way without effort or discomfort c:

    I totally agree. If I don't get dressed in the morning, I tend to just sit around for the whole day and do nothing. If I put on an outfit I like, I will find an excuse to go outside, even if it's just for a walk around the neighborhood. :) I'm not sure it's that much about confidence for me, but knowing I look awesome is just a great push to do something with my day.

  • @LindaLuztono
    @LindaLuztono Před 10 lety +32

    Yes, it is important to work from the inside out, but why not do both? Mimi is a great example of that - beautiful on the inside and out. Looking your best really does give you a tremendous amount of confidence and not to mention, get you noticed. People love to say, "It doesn't matter what others think of me." Yes it does, hunnie! Regardless of which field you work in (provided you don't have to wear a uniform) the way you are put together and how you carry yourself really makes a difference. First impressions are key also. You can only make a first impression once so why not look your best?! When we exude confidence and positivity in everyday life, the possibilities are endless!

    The only problem I have with this is when you say things like 'dress to impress' to impress other people? there is also a reason your ex is an ex so I wouldn't care what my ex thought about me. I dress for me, I wear what I want when I want and I often get compliments and comments like 'you always look nice' or 'I wish I had the confidence to wear that!' dress for yourself, not for others.

    Hiya I always dress my best I feel confident, and I love myself enough to dress my best all the time. Some of my friends say they like to dress good to go out, but what if you never go anywhere nice to wear all your best clothes they never get worn. I work in a school in the office also I look after the children at lunchtime I also clean there too. I did try changing into my old clothes to do the cleaning but I found this a pain so now I clean with my best clothes on if they get dirty I change them, I feel that I can do all my jobs a lot better when I feel good about myself. But this is just how I feel and I do have a lot of confidence to dress this way all the time but I do have a strong passion for everthing to do with fashion to me it's my way of life and all my friends expect it of me lol. Of course everyone is different as I say "each to their own" but this is just how I feel personally. Thanx for sharing x

Your uniform can be comprised by dress shirts and suits everyday. You are dressing well and wearing the same stuff everyday. Just because you are wearing a uniform doesn't mean your uniform can't consist of your best clothes: ever heard of capsule wardrobes?

    I know that this is an older video but I really needed to hear it. I work part-time at a daycare in my gym and the rest at home but I've been feeling blah lately. I'm a make-up hoarder and I have more clothes then I'll ever wear or need. I've been getting the itch to get back organized, weed out clutter and start taking more pride in my appearance. I also use to work in an office about 1 1/2 ago. I DO feel better when I feel I look better and besides, I should dress up for me, I'm worth it!! Thanks for the inspiration. XOXO from Memphis, Tn. : )

    i agree with you !! i think the first thing people see is how you present yourself not you inner values, although i am a firm believer that having confidence is what makes a strong women, i also think the way a women dress can say a lot about her. Hmm... This is the best thing you've done for yourself? What if the best thing I've done for myself is get my gym clothes on, no makeup and go for an extra mile on my run? Nothing wrong with getting dressed up, but looking and feeling beautiful comes in many forms and is different for many people. I don't think it's shallow to want to dress well and look put together.... But I think putting on makeup and wearing my best clothes wouldn't necessarily result in me putting my best self forward.

    Hi Mimi! I just accidentally see this video and everything you said is correct. That is also my outlook in dressing up. I feel more confident when I see myself in the mirror in nice dress and I don't care if that dress is for special occasion. As you've said everyday is special. :) Take care!

    I completely agree with this and it's the greatest advice. I'm now a stay at home and have been for 2 years and no family near me so staying home was all that I did. With young children it was hard to get out but I totally agree that when I did dress up I was kinda forcing myself, in a good way, to get out, and every time I went out I felt good about myself. I felt like I did something for me! It doesn't mean staying home is bad but it is once your body and mood and feelings change. Balance!

    I'm really glad you posted that video as just that day I walked out of the house not looking my best. As a result, I didn't want to be seen and realized after, that I was avoiding eye contact. I spotted a guy I knew and literally went in a different direction. Watching the video made me realize the connection and since, I've tried to leave the house proud of the way I look, therefore feeling good about myself and wanting to be seen vs avoiding eye contact. Thanks!

    Ach, I love this. I was working full time in a busy office and dressed up every day, but now am a missionary, volunteering at a school in Vienna. I get to choose my hours so I'm not out all of the time; I'm also a mom of a 4yo so I'm home with him a lot. I noticed my self-esteem had drastically decreased since not having somewhere I had to be all of the time, and I LOVE what you have to say here. If you look crappy you feel crappy. :)

    It's great that dressing up works for many people. But it may not be true for all... I guess the take-home msg of this video for me is to do something different from routine and break the rut, even if you don't have to. Be it cook something totally new for you, or go paint/ doodle/ create something. Something that you can do by yourself and makes you feel good.

    This is so true. Looking nice everyday boosts your confidence and self esteem a little. looking good makes you feel good. Days that I look like crap, makes me feel like crap. • @LisaMaryification
    @LisaMaryification Před 9 lety +1

    Maybe many people don't understand what you mean by 'dressing up'. We're not talking about formal dresses, diamonds and evening bags. We're talking about looking your best. Such as wearing boots instead of running shoes. Wearing pants instead baggy old sweatpants. Or doing your hair and makeup instead of a ponytail and no makeup. I don't mean curling your hair for an hour and putting on loads of makeup (although you can do that if you want).
    One thing I noticed about my grandmother, she always wore some lipstick and powder and got dressed up more than 'just casual' when going out of the house. I learned from her and always try to look at least presentable, even going to the store. My daughter went to a school where the kids used to make fun of her, 'Why are you so dressed up?' They'd ask, but this was just the way she dressed. Gladly, she refused to listen to them and conform to their way of dressing just to have friends. Most of these kids were dressed in stuff most people wear to laze around the house. I moved her to a different school shortly after that, for other reasons, but ones that were related to that poverty mindset.

    So true Mini, When I had my daughter my mother always told me "you better not be one of those people that forget to get dressed in the morning" Just because I was home with my baby didn't mean I couldn't look good. Now 7 yrs later my mother is no longer with me, this yr I was laid off for the 1st time in 20 yrs and I was at home more often. I had MANY days at home with no makeup or boring clothing and I started to feel depressed and not happy , i would not go out and if I did run into someone I looked like a mess and felt embarassed. So I started to watch youtube videos and alot where on makeup, I am not an expert on applying it but I enjoy it. I am one of those faces that need it to enhance what I have :) lol, I need it bottom line. Sooo I decided to do my makeup in the morning and I may still where cute sweats but I still felt good. My mom was right, if makes you feel put together and better about yourself. Its not about what others think about you , its how you feel about yourself. You explain it very well. Thank you for the video!

    Honestly, I believe I don't need to dress up everyday. I feel uncomfortable when I do. God made me beautiful the way I am so why should I strive to impress others and get their opinions when what God says is the only thing that matters? Girls, God made u beautiful just the way u r. :)

  • @luxnlher

    Confidence should NOT be enhanced with clothes and make-up. A positive attitude has nothing to do with dressing up. Crazy shallow advice.

    • @thebecomeyourdream
      @thebecomeyourdream Před 9 lety +11

      It's not about dressing up for shallowness. I don't think that your confidence NEEDS to come from dressing up but it can be a good tool to make yourself feel better. Also people often forget that you're dressing for yourself. What's so wrong with feeling a bit nicer because you appreciate the way you look that day?

  • @MimiIkonn
    @MimiIkonn  Před 11 lety

    By " dressing up" I mean pulling yourself together. It can mean different things to different people. We have to take care of ourselves without worrying about others and how they will feel. That's their karma not ours... For me seeing other people who look great and take care of themselves inspires me to do the same:)

This means you do dress up and exercise and eat healthy almost everyday because you always want to be your best for your own self. Never worry about anyone else's opinions as long as you treasure your self :)

    For me, straightening my hair and wearing concealer under my eyes is the equivelant of "dressing-up" for most people. So when I do this I instantly feel super confident to go out and meet the world even if I'm wearing my PJs!
