hey everyone! just wanted to highlight how exclusionary even the application process of a lot of elite universities are. prepping & taking the sat, having a bunch of fancy extracurriculars, knowing distinguished people who can write your applications are all things that are available to people who have historical and cultural capital - and that’s just the process of applying, not even beginning to mention the ridiculous cost of attendance and the inaccessibility of financial aid. i say this as someone who has grown up in an incredibly privileged environment and seen how much of a head start it’s given me. i don’t know what the resolution to all this is, but it’s so important to not compare yourself or feel pressured to subscribe to what historically privileged people have deemed to be a “good education”. make the best out of what YOU have. education is so much more than just the “prestige” of the university you attend.

Thank YOU dor making this video, didi!!! ❤ I am gonna be applying to universities this year and have been considering to apply internationally as well, apart from in India...I have been extremely unsure if I should give applying to the top schools like Harvard a shot, especially because I tend to feel maybe my profile nay not be upto the mark. Plus more often than not, even affording the application fees can be tough for students hailing from lower income backgrounds! Further, this thing I read on the Harvard website about a limited number of applications in a lifetime for an individual is something I do not clearly understand, in terms of does it apply to each and every program or is it restricted to a certain college under Harvard? That bit really confuses me, making me even more skeptical whether or not it is worth it to risk losing one of a person's three chances to study at a place like Harvard, if we are worried about our profile not being "good enough". US colleges don’t have a cut-off GPA required. A 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale is indeed competent.
