Sorry if this video is a bit all over the place. I just wanted to tell Caspar's story and give my stance on the ethics of keeping exotic animals as pets. Feel free to leave your thoughts on the subject in the comments and maybe we can start a (nice) discussion.
Thanks again everyone for being so kind and comforting me through Cas' passing. I really really appreciate it and it's helped me a lot.

I'm sorry for your loss ❤️ Casper was a beautiful and wonderful chameleon. He will be missed. I just wanted to add a thing or two on exotic pets from my experience keeping reptiles (also I study wildlife conservation and use to work in the reptile house of a zoo). So here's what I have to say: if you want to keep exotic pets please do your research into where they are sourced from. Look for a responsible and experienced breeder. If, you are buying from a pet shop, make sure the pet shop get their pets from a reliable and safe source. Additionally to checking where your pet shop gets their pets, do you research into whether the pet shop itself is ethical. Do they properly care for the animals, and fulfill their needs? Are the animals cared for properly and not neglected? It's really important if you do choose to buy from a pet shop to make sure they treat the animals properly and there is no cruelty involved. It's very important to remember that a lot of exotic pets are taken for their natural habitat. This declines the natural populations and the animal isn't suited to live in captivity. It is also illegal. Please do your research and don't support the illegal pet trade by purchasing from unreliable and unethical sources. One more thing, there are many exotic pets in need of second homes because their owners can no longer care for them, or didn't realize the responsibility and level of care that comes with owning an exotic pet. This is another option for you. I adopted a snake from someone who wasn't able to care for her. I've had my snake for 10 years now, and she is still happy and healthy. I'm sorry this was so long, but I hope it helped some of you x
MadeleineClaire I've been wanting to adopt a chameleon or a salamender for a while and you really opened my eyes about this issue! Now i think i am going to wait a bit more till i am ready to give them all the supplies and attention they will need. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge 🌸

I’ve been trying to find information about where is the best place/pet shop to buy a chameleon, I’ve seen theory’s that petco/petsmart have their animals harmed, but some say they’re not harmed. Now, I don’t really know where to buy chameleons. I would appreciate you answering this question, thanks.

i used to have two turtles! got too big for the tank we bought, so we gave them to a more experienced caretaker. they were named mint, and max. i think river turtles cause they had a yellow and orange marking on there head.

robin, it's incredibly hard to deal with a pet dying, i empathise with this; i am so so sorry for you however:
the way you treated caspar and the love you gave him in his lifetime was like how a parent would treat their baby. he had an amazing life and im sure he loved you as much as you loved him. and im sure that now he is in a better place. i dont know what you believe in, heaven, reincarnation / nirvana, paradise etc. but i can now guarantee that he is in the happiest and best place you believe in.
in the end, you did the right thing. i had a close relative who suffered greatly with cancer; it DESTROYS a person both physically and mentally. imagine that stress on an animal where they don't understand what the doctors are doing, what the humans are saying. letting him rest was the best possible option, he didnt deserve to die suffering and in pain.
don't be hard on yourself robin, life will move on - as harsh as it seems - and caspar is in a better place. hope yr all doing okay at home x

I’m crying. I feel so bad. Rip Caspar. 💕
One of my budgies died in April while I was watching one of your videos. I was sitting by her cage and she just... froze. And fell to the bottom of her cage. I freaked out and started screaming and crying so I screamed for my dad. He thought I was in trouble. He came downstairs to my room and we took her to the vet. We found out that she had a seizure and when she fell she broke her neck and died. Watching her fall was one of the hardest things and I literally had to take a week off of school to emotionally heal and I haven’t been the same since. I spiralled down into some sort of sadness that wasn’t exactly depression and I went to therapy. I think about her every day and it’s hard to think of the fact that we didn’t know what was wrong with her until she was gone. Rip to Caspar and pumpkin. I miss both of you.

my dog died recently and i understand how you feel. it’s really hard to go through an animal dying because it’s like a piece of your life that’s been so loving and always there for you is just gone forever. it will be okay just take your time it’s a hard thing to accept. i wish you the best and i’m sorry for your lost caspar we will all miss him.❤️

i'm not gonna lie, i've never lost a pet but i have lost two friends dear to my heart and god is it awful. i'm sorry that you had to go through this, i wouldn't wish anything like that on anyone. i have not been here from the beginning. i found out about caspar a month after you showed a video with him in it but since then, i've loved caspar. i won't forget about all the times he climbed onto your mic and your camera. it's not your fault, robbie. letting him wait the cancer out would have been horrible and he would be in more pain than if you let him down. you've inspired many people to get a chameleon and, if i can say this,,, before i hated reptiles. i didn't like them but seeing you smiling at caspar and caspar looking so happy made me think, 'hey, maybe chams aren't so bad.' i don't know what to say and i'm not good at words but please know that me and everyone are sending you so much support and good vibes right now. although it's hard, i hope you feel better about it soon. thank you for letting us know caspar, many panther cham videos have brightened my days and made them better, and we're here for you in this difficult time.
The feeling you're feeling right now goes away after a while. At first you think that you're a bad person who made a wrong choice but as time passes you'll think more and more about the fact that you actually did the right thing. You're gonna be ok :)

So grateful that you put Casper’s needs first. So many owners would be caught up in their own feelings and emotions to not recognize their own pet’s suffering. What you did was mature and right and you’re very brave to make that decision. When I was 7 my cat Leilo got parvo which is a really bad virus that’s really contagious and he was constantly vomiting and he was dehydrated and couldn’t make it to the restroom so my mom decided to have him put down. At the time I didn’t understand why we had to and why we couldn’t just see if he could make it, but I’m so proud of my mom for making the right decision for him and I’m proud of you also.

i completely understand how you are feeling. my dog that i have had since i was two was put down in june because she had fluid in her lungs. she was breathing heavily and i toon her to the vet twice and they said nothing was wrong. we eventually had them take x-rays of her lungs and the x rays showed that over half her lungs had filled with fluid. the only option was to leave her be, which she would have suffocated to death, or put her down and let her go peacefully. before she passed away we had two days together and we took her to the beach, gave her a bagel for breakfast, had her sleep on our beds, took her to the park, gave her a burger to eat and then on her last day we had a photo shoot with lots of treats and cuddles. i hope you can heal, the feeling of missing them doesn't go away, but the feeling of guilt does. sending good vibes your way ❤️
I had to put my rat down just the other day and this video really hit home to me and helped me cope. His name wwas Xeno and we had a really special bond but he had a stroke and there wasnt anything i could do.

I have a toad named Wilbur. He might not seem interesting or special, nothing that anybody would pay attention to. But he’s special to me. he sits on my hand and looks at me like he loves me. He always cheers me up, he’s like a therapy animal to me, And I really don’t know what I would do without my little baby, I love him so much.

I'm so sorry for what happened, watching you and Caspar always made me feel better and I can't ever imagine how it felt to have lost him. You are an amazing person, loss is hard and its okay to not feel okay. I know that me and many other people love you and loved Caspar and we are all sending our support.

When we had to put my pupper to sleep a couple years back, I faced very similar mental struggles to your own. It is one of the worst possible decisions to have to make and I am so sorry that you had to go through this with Caspar. But from what it looks like, you were a damn good and very caring owner/friend to him and there's not a doubt in my mind that he lived a very fulfilling and happy life. Casper, I know you passed away, but I have never been so connected to an animal in my life. You brought light into Robbie's life, and I am so grateful. Robbie, even if he doesn't know it, saved my life as well. You made him happy, and he made me happy back.
I can't stop watching all the videos you're in, and cry. It's something I wish I could stop. But I just miss you so much. And I know Robbie misses you as well; and I don't blame him.
I wish you could understand english back when you were alive. Robbie had so much love to give you, and you, somehow, gave him just as much.

I just finished watching this video and I've been sobbing uncontrollably. I had been listening to the song about Casper and then I was lead down the rabbit hole of his amazing channel. You're so didn't what a fantastic character and soul that little scaly bean had. How wonderful his legacy lives on in video form and in Robbie's heart as well as fan's. ❤ I love the way Robbie and he interacted, it was so pure and really showed the funny, joyous spirits they both have. Casper is missed, and loved.

Putting down an animal is the hardest thing, I’ve had to do it with my dog. It was sooo hard. My dog had cancer to and it got to the point where she was in real pain and suffering, I feel bad for having her that long, I was selfish. I really wanted her to get better.

Im really sorry for what you have went through the past few days, i can promise that it will get better. There will be a hole in your heart for casper and it's normal. I had a cat that i had since i was born and she was alive for 21 years and we had to put her down about 2 years ago and i really loved that cat, but after many months, it started getting better. Stay strong and know that you did the right thing because you didn't want him to suffer. Casper probably knew that it was for the best and i think you did the right thing and i think everyone else in the comments and people who watch your videos will agree that you did not kill him, you helped him and loved him. here i am 3 years later, rewatching this video cause my cat died in fornt of my eyes a while ago. this really helped me get through the pain and the thought that i did something wrong that has brought him to death. Don't know if anyone is gonna see this but i really enjoyed listening to Casper story again and read all of the comments to know that i'm not alone, it happens and the pain will go away. thanks

(I’ve never met you BUT) I’ve never met anyone (besides you even though I’ve never met you) who holds so much love in their heart for their pet. Caspar is such a happy boy and is living his very best life. You are literally the best pet parent ever. You seem to be an expert and know so much about chameleons and how to keep them happy and healthy. There’s absolutely nothing that you could have done to prevent this and you know it. (Little bit of tough love here) please don’t blame yourself. Caspar loves you more than all the juicy fat buggers in the world. Even more than his bowl. You mean the most to him and he means the most to you and it shows. You’ve inspired so many people including my cousin to become lovely Cham parents as well. She loves her chameleon, Beans, more than anything. He is a little grumpy boy but he loves her so much and he is one of the few things that help calm her anxiety and make her happy when she’s sad. If it weren’t for you being such a great Cham parent that wouldn’t have happened. You’re the best, robin. Don’t you doubt it. Because I have no doubt in my mind that you are the best thing that could have ever happened to Caspar. No one would have been better for him than you. You did the right thing.

When we had to put our dogs down we gave them whole salamis and ham we gave them ice cream and anything they wanted in the fridge since it was their last day we figured we might as well make them happiest
My pet rat died yesterday, I still have trouble talking about it, she was very special to me too and I miss her a lot but the best thing you can do in these situations is not cry because it's over, smile because it has happened I'm sure you made the right decision and you were a brilliant owner. None of this was your fault. Sometimes these things are inevitable. But I'm sure he loved you and felt all the feelings you felt for him and more. This video has helped me deal with the fact that maya (my rat) has passed and I hope you can find comfort in the fact that your not alone in your pain as I did; don't cry because it's over, smile because it has happened.

Using your snips to open the plastic “box” to give him his boring old lotus. You made me want a chameleon, and I understand on what you were saying about how you talk to him. I talk to mine A LOT! And he has such a great personality, you gave him all of your heart and time. I loved all of your editing that you did with Casper... you made the right choice. I'm kind of at a loss for words, but what I can say is that I've been waiting for this video for a long time. Although I hate seeing you so depressed, it's ok to feel horrible, it's ok to cry, I would prefer you embracing your emotions over the alternative, and I wouldn't have cared if you uploaded a 10 minute video of you bursting into tears, I just wanted to see you and hear your voice, and this actually helped ME have some closure over all of this!
I'm really sorry you put Caspar's pain on your own shoulders before you knew what was going on with him, because that's a really painful thing to go through.
I'm sorry you had to watch him slowly go away but I'm thankful that you loved him every moment of his life and every moment after.
I'm sorry if you've had to sort of put this aside so you can focus on music but I also know you've had some healing along the way.
I can't even tell you how happy I am that you're using what you and Cas have gone through to help other people, and I want you to know I'll lobe any other pet you get, though I know no one else can replace or come close to the little person Caspar was.

rob.... you did such a good job caring for him while he was alive. you were an amazing owner and friend to him, I don't know many other people who would have put the time, effort, and money that you did (which they should be willing to do before getting any pet bur still) and I know it's hard for you to let go but he really was happy and we all know he had a good life with you.

i can’t effectively put into words how emotional this made me but i’ll give it a go anyway. it’s clear how much you loved caspar and how much you wanted to give him a happy and healthy life and that’s so so so nice and even just by watching your videos i can tell you gave him the best and happiest life you could. losing a pet isn’t ever easy and it’s okay to take us much time to heal after this as you need. i’ve been following your channel for just over a year and a half now and although i never met caspar, i really did feel sad about his passing so i can’t even begin to fathom what it must’ve been like for you. it’s always important to remember that you 100% did the right thing. we’ll all miss him so much and i hope he’s happy sipping drips and eating grubs in chameleon heaven :) rip casp ❤️
Anyone who has ever lost a pet can fully understand this. I couldn't even go to the vet with family to put down my cat of 22 years, because I was so sad to see him leave us. You made the best decision letting go, Robin. Caspar has been a big part of the cavetown family since the start. He will always be loved by us.

aw buddy this is so sad, I'm so sorry you had to let him go. I know how this feels. This was years ago but I had a little dog named mary (idk it was a weird name but I was pretty young) and my family had her for about 2 years when she was run over by a truck. The vets told us that we would have to pay heaps of money for surgery because she was very internally damaged but if we kept her alive she would live the rest of her life in pain, not being able to eat or even run properly. When I was younger I was so confused as to why my mum decided to let her go but I get it now. It hurts a lot and what you did for caspar was the right thing to do, don't blame yourself xx

I've never personally had to put a pet down, but I know how hard it is when a loved pet dies. They're like family! You did the right thing, man. Like you said, he wouldn't have understood why he was in pain. This way he lived happily only, and not in significant pain. Loved your Lemon Boy song and video by the way. Keep up the awesome stuff!
my pet chihuahua meelo recently passed of a heavy disease and it was really sad to have to lose him, and i wasnt even there to see his last moments, and i had a lot of mental troubles getting through it. Im very sorry to hear that this happened to caspar, and he will always be remembered as a lovable goob
I'm worried now my Cham had dry skin and is getting bumps on his body and they gave him a new vitamin to take and his bulbs were changed is it possible that my Cham has cancer too

If his condition is making him uncomfortable or making it difficult for him to do certain things, I'd advise asking the vet to do a biopsy on one of his bumps. If they aren't bothering him right now it's not worth putting him through that just yet.

Hey im a big fan and i wanted to tell you that i had a female veiled chameleon. She was the cutest chameleon chameleon i had ever seen. She passed away due to unfertilized eggs which all females produce. The only problem was that she was too small to lay the eggs. So i had to put her to sleep which was one of the most difficult decision i had ever done in my life. I hope you stay strong and maybe get another one when your ready.

I had a dog, his name was Rosco. We got him when he was a puppie. When he was one year old, I went up to my fathers house for the summer and Rosco was left at home. During my second month of staying there, my stepdad called me and told me Rosco had died. Aparently he ran out of the house and got hit in the head by a bumper of a car. I didn't cry, because my brain hadn't processed it. We had a dog house for him outside, and I showed it to my sister, shes only two, and I told her it was Roscos house. She then said Roscos house? And it finally hit me and I began crying. I like to think Cas and Rosco and the other pets that have passed on are playing together right now. With all the treats they could ever ask for.

i haven't cried this much in weeks aaa. this reminds me of the time my big beautiful cat had to be putten down. and even though i will probably never get a chameleon i really like to hear about them. chameleons are so interesting animals!

i'm so sorry for your loss, but always remember, you were the best thing to ever happen to casper and you gave casper a lovely life even if it got cut short. every time that you feel guilty, remember that you did everything that you could do and gave him the best life you could have. you made the right choice and even if it hurts, which i know it does, you made casper's last days enjoyable and as good as they could be. best wishes to you

I thank Casper for bringing me here and changing my life in general. Rest In Peace little bud. I know that where you are now, you have perfect eyesight, an unlimited supply of bugs, and no cancer. Secondly, Robbie you did an amazing job giving Caspar the best life he could have. Honestly if he was with anyone else he wouldn't have been nearly as happy as he was with you. You took great care of him and don't think of it as killing him, you made a brave and wise decision. Just think about it like this: You made sure he wasn't going to be in significant pain, you chose to make him even happier in chameleon heaven. In heaven he has no tumors, he can see, and his color will always be happy having you in his brain and his adorable tiny heart. He loved you and he knows you loved him and still do. You did the best you possibly could. So don't be so hard on yourself. Rip Caspar~You shall be missed.
