Three young Fijians of Indian descent living in New Zealand have expressed a desire to learn more about their history as the community marked Girmit Day. Video: Blessen Tom
Indians have touched every part of the globe! When cultures mix and there's a fusion, we see the birth of a new identity. We don't have to pick one. I'm Indo-Guyanese, Carribbean with Indian lineage, and my culture is distinct and I rock it hard no matter what anyone tells me! :)
Think there was a bit of news about Fijian Indians wanting to be eligible for scholarships allocated to Pacific Islanders a while back. It's an interesting question in the NZ context
Talk to Tangata Whenua not ACT. ACT are targeting Māori & Pacific Island Spaces and Quotas, while promoting this. Being Pacifica means being actively a part of collective efforts to undo colonialism and work together. Being Moana Nui Whanau means being active for sovereignty. Not ACT Colonial definitions to limit all our existence.
Very poor audio. Three very confused individuals who are totally clueless about their racial history. Instead of mumbling their personal phobias, they should make an effort to academically study British colonialism and in particular the indenture system. And then make some factual statements.
A indo-fijian girl I went to school with was one of the most attractive humans I have ever set my eyes on. Still think about her sometimes more than 10 years later.
Without a clear commitment to Fijian Tino Rangatiratanga it is just the foolish play in to the sly Colonial ACT tactics to reduce the pool of Tangata Moana Whenua representation and funding that it is.

Well spoken. A sincere and heartfelt cry for identity in Aotearoa
