Also because he was literally in the sky being able to create his lightning attacks such as El Thor or Raigo become 10x easier to create with the clouds/atmosphere/humidity

Agreed! I suspect there's partial awakening forms to those who fill out parts of that criteria. In relation to haki, Luffy's G5 would be Advanced Haki (a tier above casual haki/casual awakenings). Luffy already had plenty of time to practice his imaginative ability through his rubber powers. Luffy's G4 being an example of him mentally being on page with his power but not physically, thus granting him the smoke flames before G5. Yamato could possible be in her pre-awakened state mentally, already wanting to defend Wano (desire to be Oden), this gives her room for growth rather than being maxed out. The partial awakened physical form would be Chopper/Impel Down guards, who were physically in tune with their fruit but not mentally, thus losing conciousness.

Also Devil fruits seem to be a stand-in for dreams and Haki a stand-in for will. So I think the vapor around an awakened user changes color depending on their personalities. Yamato and Luffy had a white vapor coat because they're the "dream" type, while Lucci and probably Kaido had a black one because they don't really have a dream on their own but have incredible "wills"

My theory is just that darkness consumes... both in real life and in the one piece universe. Darkness is always trying to take over, absorb more, take more, exist in more places. So maybe the reason why blackboard CAN consume more than one devil fruit is because, well, his fruits desire is to consume, gain more power, so it allows the user to take more than one devil fruit if it means becoming more powerful.

I think Kaido is not awakened because he explained awakening to be when ur mind and body catches up with ur powers. While Kaido was physically ready for his df he wasn’t compatible for it mentally. Kaido desire was to be defeated instead of getting stronger and being invincible which would have been a better fit for his df.

Nah it’s about strength of your haki itself. The grade of conquerors you possess you align with the will of your fruit. Luffy hadnt grasped his fruits ability to become free totally. Until he was facing the understated formidable opponent Kaido! Which, with intuition and focus (training), he acquired heightened levels of haki which gets him closer to freedom. With freedom and fury, he starts smiling which is aligned with Nika. But also it couldn’t be Nika the entire throughout the show causing Devilish lucky mayhem. The reason why it was impossible for Luffy to stop being comical. But yea him being able to survive in the ocean, is a certain degree of freedom over death. Becoming free against all elements, for him to get to the point where he resonates on Nika’s frequency and therefore Nika starts awakening with no more resistance from Luffy! BAM. Freestyle on the spot.
Idk, it is the fish fish fruit model seiryu. The fish swimming up stream turning into a dragon. I always thought his dragon form was his awakening since its a fish fruit.

I always thought Dragon had an unknown awakening of a devil fruit when he saved Luffy from smoker. He was able to completely change the world around him in that moment. Affecting all the elements to create a storm. It seems Dragon has some sort of ability to do something with weather and or area of affect manipulation of some kind at least that's what I think. Then again that could just be his overwhelming haki. What if Dragon has a unique unknown haki type?
From what we’re seeing, I think it’s not so much that there’s two paths one can take when awakening their zoan fruit, but rather how much willpower one has at their disposal to overcome the fruit consuming your humanity. Reason for this is that we know both luffy and lucci to have very powerful wills to live, letting them maintain themselves in face of their fruits awakening. Something that we can imply the jailers nor pre-timeskip chopper May not have had

They can turn the environment into their element and they can also create a Kaiju monster just like Susanoo from naruto, they can hide inside and control it

I think devil fruits came from Dreams of people with the Will of D as the D might stand for “Dreams”. Maybe before they die, their dreams turn into devil fruits. And Luffy’s devil fruit may be the result of Joyboy’s dream before he died.

I wanna mention this cuz I’m currently re-reading Skypeia. The scene where Black Beard says dreams never die is so cool in retrospect. And the scene where Bellamy makes fun of dreams is quite ironic. Despite having a devil fruit he makes fun of dreams.
Currently, I really think that the mentioned “dimension” is here in our real world. Oda wants to capture our dreams / wishes as normal people with super powers. What if we could be invisible (absalom). What if we could be superman (burgess). What if we could bring anything to live (big mom). The main theme, What if we cartoons were real (luffy). hence why the Smile fruits are so badly integrated with the hosts. If we think about it, they look “bad” for us because the way they “spawn” is not actually how we thought/dreamt them to manifest. Now, with this said, I would say that awakening is when the character meets our expectation. With the jailers at impel down, we dont really know the people who eat the devil fruit, that’s why they lost control because they failed to convince us that they deserve awakening. With doflamingo, as a character, he successfully convinced us that he really is controlling hence the awakening. Lucci too, he successfully makes us believe that he is a top notch killer, hunter, and predator. And lastly Haki, is probably the characters’ own will that give them chance to fight our imagination power.
But maybe I’m just saying nonsense because of withdrawal symptoms. Man these breaks are killing me. (Not complaining, stay healthy Oda Sensei!)

I love how oda is writing a story on liberation and freedom in the one piece world. Where a few rich and powerful control and subdue the masses much like our world, both will inevitably change when people's dreams keep flowing.
This is why I love One Piece so much. The themes that are so pivotal in the story aligns perfectly with the problems that we face (and have faced in human history) in the real world. And its not just a single theme such as freedom and liberation (though that is the central theme in OP), but many different themes that coincide and interact together to spark change in the world (the theme of love, loneliness, honour, etc.) and Oda is able to consistently tackle these themes with real-world issues such as racism, war, slavery, human experimentation, etc.). Even though "sexual" themes are pretty much non-existent (it's a PG-13 story lol), Oda has masterfully crafted a really amazing story about people's dreams and how the human will can never be extinguished. It brings hope and inspiration, despite all the turmoils and sufferings that humanity has faced throughout its history.
People are wondering if kaido's devil fruit is awakened or not. They're looking for the smoke that Luffy and Lucci has. They forgot to notice that the smoke they're looking for didn't emits on kaido's body, because he uses it to lift Onigashima.

That wasn't the clouds Momo failed to replicate? Do note, Kaido & Momo have flames wrapped & connected around their arms, not the same as Lucci's, Luffy's or Yamato's open ended auras that hover around their neck and body, never connecting.
Luffy being changed in personality by nika makes me think about just how difficult it is to avoid being cotrolled by a devil fruit's awakening ability. Think about it: Luffy is the same man that had such an enormous willpower that he was able to absorb more than a thousand souls in thriller bark no problem, and yet Nika's personality is still able to take the lead.
If the dreams theory is true, it would actually make a lot of sense about the rarity of logia and ancient/mythical zoans cause regular paramecia and zoan ideas are wished more often but logia and ancient/mythical zoans are rare because they are unique ideas and animals which only few people can wish for (this could also be the case for rare paramecias like ope ope or gura gura as they are unique ideas too)
So the Will and the Why of a wish are the origins of a Devil Fruit and the nature of the wish and the person's mind sort of syncing up are what allow for an awakening. What about an evil wish? A dark hope formed of hatred? What if your wish was "I want to rule over all"? It would take a pretty horrible and powerful person to embody that wish... or perhaps just one with just a map and a brush.

Will is a very important theme in OP. The will of D, mystical zoan having a will of it's own, the free will of the revolutionary army. But since we learned about Luffy's awaken state and how Nika devil fruit has a will of its own, I can't stop thinking about how everything Luffy has done, how free-spirited (freewill) he is, is that of his own free will or is it the will of D and/or the will of Nika. On top of that, if Luffy is the reincarnation of Joy Boy, is the will of Joy Boy also imposing on Luffy? And I am talking about the Luffy before eating the devil fruit. Is that kid still alive or has already been taken over by all these "wills"
What if Luffy is just a vessel for Will as a whole? He has the Wills of Joy Boy, Roger, and Nika, so who’s to say that Luffy was ever meant to be human? A reincarnation, an inheritor, and a manifestation. Yeah, I don’t think Luffy was ever going to be “human” but one that would always move forward to fulfill the Dreams of the Wills he holds.
I don't think Luffy is "only a vessel," I think his own will just happens to align with the individual wills he's said to have inherited. Nika loved Freedom, Roger sought adventure, and the Will of D. is said to be the natural enemy of god, the Gods in question are the celestial dragons who let's face it, are just assholes. Luffy is someone who wants to be free, seeks out adventure and friendship, and if someone is an asshole, he's not afraid to punch them for it.
kaido’s flame clouds look nothing like the zoan awakening ribbon. you somehow made it look plausible though by making luccis ribbon flame colored when it’s obviously meant to match his hair like it does for the other zoan awakening we’ve discussed. it doesn’t go under his arms and around the back of his neck like it does for lucci, yamato, and luffy. momo can also conjur flame clouds, does that make him awakened? if anything this chapter proves he wasn’t awakened.
Exactly. According to Kaido Eastern Dragons use flame clouds to fly so those have nothing to do with Awakening. Whereas Luffy, Lucci, and Yamato have an aesthetic ring around them that seems to serve no other purpose.

I think the guards of impel down were forced to awaken like chopper with his rumble balls. The reason they aren't in control because it wasn't a natural awakening.

Here's my take for the Zoan awakening if you're well is stronger than the will of the fruit and you make it bend treat your girl, then you have truly awakened it you have your human mind, but the body of a beast but if you're will, is not strong enough the will of the beast will take over so maybe that's why the people in impel down weren't like luffy and rob luccl and maybe Yamato may be the key to having a true awakening must be a symbiosis between the user and the fruit

I think it relates to ones willpower, Lucci may not have CH, but still has enough will power to control his awakening, Luffy has advanced CH and it still makes changes so it might differ for different zoans

My theory is that, for zoan awakenings; if you are able to maintain control over the fruit's will, you will obtain a vapor coat: as all the zoan awakenings except for the ones that lost control, have the vapor / flame thing around their neck.

I don't think Kaido was awakened or at least those Fire Clouds were not a sign of Awakening. Those were explicity stated to be part of the Fruit's "standard power" and allowing him to fly and makes other stuff fly. That feature was shared by Momo that for sure could have not been awakened.
Similarly I think neither Yamato was awakened at this point I think the Flame/Smoke stuff is a generic feature of the Mythical Zoan fruit (as Luffy had an embrional form of this also in some Gear 4 stages) and it can be gained also by Awakened Regular Zoan due to them becoming some godly/enlightened version of the animal... So Lucci become a sort of enlightened/godly Leopard. Conceptually similar to what Yamato was from the moment she eat her fruit

I'd jot the flame/smoke aura as a symbol of being mentally in tune with your fruit. Those who lack the flames would lose consciousness when trying to access higher forms of their awakening.

@@peryutubanduniawi not fighting backwards, one piece has an interesting power scaling system. Base Kaido is stronger than Katakuri, Haki & physically. His mythical fruit is also different than Katakuri’s fruit, being that it’s a mythical zoan he’s granted an array of unique abilities.

I would add to your last point, that you can awaken your fruit without matching your Devilfruits true nature, but this results into becoming like the jailors in Imperal Down. Those guy just weren't close enough to their "Spirit Animal" character wise and became overtaken by the Will of the Fruit.
The Will of Zoan fruits overlapping with the Will of its Users to be truly awaken would also help to not undo Luffy's journey and characterisation.
The five elders explained, that the Nika fruit caused trouble for the WG in the past. Probably because it took over the Will of the user and made them into revolutionaies. But since the user and the Fruit were so far always not allign, nobody could awaken it and felt prey to the WG. That's probably also the issue, why the Nika fruit couldn't be controlled. I assume, that Devil Fruit can still rot after some time and then regrow. The WG didn't want anybody to eat in their lines, since they would just become rebellious. So it was very hard for them to control the fruit (aka the spirit of freedom).
I assume, that's why the underestimate Luffy. Just another troublemaker because of the Nika Fruit, who will himself get killed. But Luffy instead was a perfect fit with the Nika Fruit. His rebellious and free spirit overline with the Will of the Fruit. The fruit didn't need to overwrite his personality! Luffy has always been himself. That's why he could awaken it without taken over by it.
It is the reason, why I don't see Luffy to have issues with the fruit's will. Since then it would mean, that they are in odds.
I think joy boy as the embodiment of freedom and humor so, instead of taking luffy over strips or striping him of his freedom fills him with a sense of control of his life leaving him open to be as he is every day. dumb, joyful, caring and ruthless

I've always maintained that each individual who's eaten their fruit has ended up with the one that IS them, not the one that's right for them or matches them, but innately is them, each power holder has a personality in my opinion that matches their ability to the utmost. Like they were meant to have that fruit ability.
Also all devil fruit awakenings seem to be connected to divinity of some kind.

I disagree with the "essense of the nika fruit" idea. That implies Luffy has changed, which as we know isn't really his thing, and it also makes it look like before he didn't really want to liberate anyone.
More importantly, the Gorosei freaked out, out of the sudden, before the transformation itself. Therefore, the trigger must be something else, something that can be discerned rather easily, and rare enough they've been confident for a long time nobody would actually do it.
PS: Did Nika really change Luffy at all? I think that he might just be high, as in, what if Luffy smoked cannabis… wouldn't he act pretty much as he did?

I'm thinking the reason some awakened fruit users retain their will is that the fruit and the user have had the same will from the start. Like Luffy and his fruit both just wanting freedom or Lucci just wanting to kill people. Both have been shown to be aligned with their fruit's will before they ever ate it. It's just the right person eating the right fruit. Either that or it's just because the user's will is stronger than the fruit's. Or both.

Could there be a devil fruit that was born out of the dream to obtain the One Piece? Did Roger sacrifice himself to start the great pirate era in order to create the Gomu Gomu no mi out of the dreams of the people? Maybe the Gum Gum fruit was so hard to find by the WG because they suppressed the name of Nika, causing the prominence of the devil fruit to vanish until people started wishing for his existence--like Roger when he wished he could have lived in the same era as Joy Boy. Perhaps the Gomu Gomu didn't even exist until the Roger Pirates discovered the truth of the world and the void century, wishing to see the return of Joy Boy.

i think that at least the "hand-laying-to-ground movement" of Logia and Parametia fruits like don flamingos, is the "sign" or the starting technic for their devilfruit awakening. Remember Crocodile let the whole surrounding decay (moving hand to ground), Aokiji´s Ice Age to froze the whole sea (to be fair at marine ford he positioned his hands towards the incomig tsunami), Katakuri before he turn everything to mochi and creating the dougnuts layed down his Hands, Blackbeard when he uses the black hole technic, Don Flamingo when he turned the city to strings
kaido's flame clouds in his dragon form is something which kaido uses to fly, its not a sign of awakening, also the eyebrows are just for design, who in the right mind would think a zoan user is awakened by looking at their eyebrows?

I really think kaido's devil fruit is already awakened because his fruit, Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, is based on the Japanese story about a carp that became a dragon because the Gods awarded the carp for being to be able to reach the top of the Longmen falls. So the idea is kaido's previous form is just a carp but as he became stronger, he awakens it and it turned into a dragon. Just like the pokemon magikarp that turns into a dragon when evolved

Luffy Is A Mythical Monkey Man, Not A Rubber Man
This theory will try to explain the connection between Zunesha, Luffy and what the Gorosei were talking about the mysterious devil fruit thah the World Goverment had changed its name.
Luffy real devil fruit is not Gomu Gomu No Mi (paramecia), its really a mythical zoan called "Saru Saru No Mi Model Hanuman" (Monkey Monkey Fruit Model Hanuman)
Ok, lets me explain. It has lots to do with Hindu Myhtology, and i'm not an expert in those field but i will try my best.
i. Zunesha
The name Zunesha was adopted from Ganesha, the gods of prosperity and wisdom. He is also known as "The Lord Of The People" and "The Remover Of Obstacles" which kinda foreshadow the motive of Zunesha arrival in the latest chapter.
In the old mythology Hanuman have a strong connection with Ganesha, hence Zunesha also share some connection with Luffy.
There is many possibility why Zunesha arrived at Wano. Maybe to protect The Minks tribe who Zunesha has considered as "his people". Or maybe there is another possibility. Zunesha detected something, or rather Someone.
I believe Gorosei was informed about the arrival of Zunesha. And they actually knew the connection between Zunesha and the mysterious devil fruit. Thats why they were shocked by Zunesha action or rather Reaction.
Zunesha came to Wano because he is reacting to the awekening of Hanuman.
Hanuman is the real nature of Gomu Gomu No Mi., and luffy is in the process of awakening it and discovering the truth.
ii. Inspiration
Oda once said that he is a big fan of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball and One Piece is partly inspired by his favourite Manga. As we all know, Son Goku is loosely adapted from Journey Of The West's main character, The Monkey King (Son Wukong). Journey To The West is a novel that revolve around The Mighty Monkey King and the Buddhist mythology, hence Oda adapted a Hindu mythology for his main character that also revolve about a tales of a powerful Monkey
iii. Hanuman And Luffy
Hanuman and luffy share some (many) traits and backstory
Hanuman is a War General, known for his might and also his strong leadership in several war like The Battle of Lanka, leading many tribes and species to war.
This is also the case with Luffy, great leadership, leads wars, befriend anyone, can lead and motivates everybody.
Luffy is reincarnation of Joy Boy (always shown smiling).
Hanuman is reincarnation of Shiva. Shiva is known to destroy Tripura (three cities made of gold, silver and iron) with just a SMILE.
Hanuman is son of Vayu, God of Wind and Air.
Luffy is son of Dragon, although never shown but many believe have some sort of devil fruit that can control air/cloud/storm.
Hanumon once thought the sun is a golden color fruit, then try to reach the sky to obtain the sun. He is later stopped and punished by Indra, the god of storm
Luffy once reached the sky, found the golden Bell fought Enel along the way who believed he is the god of storm.
Hanuman was once caught when he tries to save Sita, wife of Ramayana. When the enemy try to burn his tail, Hanuman evades the fire by changing the length of his limb.
Luffy obviously can stretch his limbs. The goverment use this as a coverup and said hanuman fruit is just a rubber fruit. Maybe the unawakened Hanuman fruit only got access to this one ability.
iv. Sun God Nika, Joyboy and Luffy is connected
As previously stated, Hanuman once tries to eat the sun. Luffy never tries this, but a very long time ago a certain person maybe.
Sun God Nika seemed to be a lanky, warrior-like figure with "Noodly Limbs" and flame-shaped hair. He is said to be the leader of slaves that will one day bring "smiles" to them. His image is clearly smiling and looks like a joyful person. Nika once attempt to do something with the sun, or got some power related to fire/heat, got famous for it and later called as the Sun God Nika.
Noodly limbs could also imply that Nika is the previous owner of the Gomu Gomu/Hanuman fruit.
Back to Hanuman story, after he is caught trying to obtain the sun, he got punished and sustained an injury on his body. His father go on a strike and blocked the air from all living creature. The gods needs Vayu to calm down or all living things will die without air. They healad Hanuman, but also give him some boons which is resistant towards LIGHTNING and FIRE.
On the other hand Luffy try to take the Sun for himself (Ace the Mera Mera No Mi), punished by the magma, got a permanent injury on his chest, and later developed a fire attack and he is resistant to his own FIRE. As we all knew Luffy is already resistant towards LIGHTNING.
v. Memory Erased
Hanuman memory was once erased by the higher gods, because he is kinda mischief and displeased the gods. He forgot about his real strength and capability for a while.
The Hanuman fruit real name and powered is erased by the higher hands because of something the previous owner may had done to the Higher Goverment and Luffy never knew his real strength and his fruit capability.
vii. Conclusion
Luffy real devil fruit is not Gomu Gomu No Mi, its
Saru Saru No Mi Model Hanuman
a really rare powerful mythical zoan which the previous owner wrecks the old ruling government.

Regarding the questions about what an Awakened Zoan involves, there is the peculiar nature of the power of Crocodiles right hand. The power to remove moisture in what he touches, mummifying living creatures and eroding structures and earth into sand.
It is currently unknown if other logia df have a similar trait associated with their element that requires they direct touch with their hand. Perhaps the reason Akainu's punches pierce people so easily is that his touch can melt any solid into it's liquid state, as magma is the liquid form of the usually ever solid 'rock'..
Perhaps awakening a logia allows this 'touch effect'. Crocodile's strength seems very limited at the time of that fight, which could explain why it wasn't used much and didn't have much range.
Perhaps it is not what is granted with awakening, but it gets expanded and improved. The two halves of Punk Hazard have had their climates permanently altered, but Luffy was able to undo his own mummification by drinking water. Perhaps the logia awakening allows for permanate environment alteration. This would explain Eines Lobby having eternal daylight and clear skies, as well as the island of endlessly raining lightning in the New World.
Maybe logia users require learning their 'touch effect' and learning how to turn into a large 'elemental avatar' state (like Enel and Greenbull) as part of mastering their df. After mastering it and letting their body and mind catch up, they can awaken into a primordial avatar of their element able to change the world around them to support their fruit.
My theory for the mera mera fruit is that pre historic humans wished for fire or something to keep them warm and allow them too cook and make tools etc or light up the cold dark nights so the mera fruit came to be and for the willl of the fruit the humans who wished for it were very determined like ace and sabo

I´m kinda sure that Kuzan, Akainu, Crocodile and Green Bull are awakened since their powers have such a ginormus range to them: freezing or burning half an island, drying out the whole country, turning places you go on into forests (love this power, so amazing! Wish we had it here on Earth).
Kaido didn't show his awakening… neither did Big Mom. I believe this is because they're returning later on, and it's even possible they both return together specifically to train Luffy. Something like "you got my memories back and kaido thinks you're joy boy," since Luffy doesn't usually kill and doesn't care about Kaido because he defeating him once already, and there's a 'promise' Big Mom would help Luffy… this would make much sense.
PS: We also know there are many zoan fruit states (due to Chopper). We don't know the details yet, but it's possible awakening give many forms, and if it's actually one of the Chopper forms already!
One last thing, becoming a dragon also doesn't seem like an awakening when Momonosuke was able to transform so easily.
I'm pretty confident that Big Mom's awakened ability was her using a piece of her own soul to buff herself and become Giga Granny.

I tend to believe kaido is awakened not only bc of the points made in this video, but also the fact that kaido’s fruit was technically the fish fish fruit so maybe the base form of this fruit is a fish and when the fruit awakens it turns into a dragon (much like the mythology of Karps that persevered and climbed the waterfall turn into dragons).

For now I think, those clouds are mainly for 'deities' Which a Dragon can fit into also Sun god and Yamatos fruit being that of a guardian. However retroactively they are now being given to all zoan awakenings however what if Lucci does have n inverse of Yamatos fruit hence the clouds? First idea needs refining though
Not sure what most most may think, but the clouds around the characters noted to have them are a nimbus, another term for a halo, but is more commonly used to refer to a glowing cloud; which applies here, or a lumious aura that surrounds a being to denote their supernatural nature or existence. In this sense, the clouds around the awakened Zoan users like Luffy or Lucci, are halos. Which would align with Vegapunk’s idea of devil fruits making them into supernatural beings down to their core or soul essentially, which is a proven fact in the story that are beyond normal laws of nature in the world they inhabit. More so I think it may be representative form of the soul of the devil fruit being in sync with the soul of the user like many speculate, I do believe they hold a lil more meaning that as Oda has made a point for only showcasing it on a few Zoan characters so far, all who are noted to have soul’s befitting the fruits they have. Until we see awakenings from more characters like Doffy or a logia user we can’t really be sure of it’s true implications as anything other than a sign of their spiritual nature.

I remember reading a fanfic where the MC lived hundreds of years before canon (i forgot btw, probably after void century), which he then spread the idea/story about 1 god, then proceed to time travel into canon timeline (10-20 years before canon). Then his story of this one god simply manifested as a new devil fruit.
Although he made the story so that devil fruit is born in a particular place which he himself only know, just as Alabasta's 2 Guardian Gods seems to be born there every generation

I would agree that Yamato is awakened, if not for one issue. His full wolf transformation also has the awakened characteristics. Unless Yamato somehow has multiple awakened forms, that suggests the his mythic fruit just naturally looks awakened. A weird choice on Oda's part, but mythic zoans do tend to be exceptions to the norm.
About the vapor coat... i would say they only point to awakening in normal zoans. Because at least my theory is that while awakened they also gain mytical, logia or paramecia abilities.
Rob lucci looks like a shadow jaguar, and we see him creating shadow claws that look like his flames, wich makes me think that whoever imagined his fruit also imagined jaguars as a creature that hides in shadows and is made of them.
I would say some of the toby roppo are also awakened, there is no way you can create a triceratops helicopter without awakening
kaido couldn't have been awakened, because momo's dragon looks nearly identical to kaido's, flame fur and everything, but vegapunk stated he never proved his artificial zoans could awaken.

It fully makes sense to me why Luffy’s Nika fruit evaded the World Government for so long! If the fruit was created by prisoners and the oppressed to bring smiles and liberate people held captive.
