Project Titan - Build Process (Part 1)

  • Project Titan, a shallow tank of 10 gallons, challenges gravity and rests delicately within a fragile glass frame.
    Unfortunately didn’t work out as desired. We can see the progress of this build from its prime to its demise.
    However this project will be repurposed into something beautiful in the upcoming project. We’ll be turning this aquarium into a crab paludarium.
    Part 2 in progress
    Camera: Sony A7RII
    Glass tank: 60 UNS (10 gallon shallow)
    Filter: OASE
    Steel pipes: Litiaquaria
    Livestock from: Planted Aquaria
    Light: Twinstar

    Thank you for sharing the entire process, including the tragic end. Far too many aquascaper channels show a quick build, but never show the inevitable battle with algae when balancing the tank. In the end, sometimes the algae wins. It's all part of the process, even a failed initial set up can be rescaped into a very successful one, since the entire tank and substrate are fully cycled and balanced by then.

    It happened to me. Such an amazing scape you had. My guess is too much uncovered aqua soil. I only use substrate where plants go in and I cover it with sand or pebbles. A good amount making sure no extra nutrients escape.

    • @buiscape
      @buiscape  Před 3 měsíci +1

      A lot of nutrients and the light was very low and strong. UG isn't a plant that processes nutrients and seems to lose to all kinds of algae battle. It does best in really balanced and matured ecosystems. But good advice, less soil is definitely better.

    • @cozmin1424
      @cozmin1424 Před 3 měsíci

      @@buiscape another tip would be for you to cycle the tank first then add plants, i know it is time consuming mine took a whole month without any plants to establish good chemical ballance, slowly i added the plants. I made a blackwater/river style scape light on 60% with no stem plants mostly crypts and grass, no algae. It really hurt you tearing apart the scape but hey the new one looks awesome too! Keep up the work! (btw flower compost its also good and does not require huge amounts, just a bottom layer of it of 2 fingers is enough, capped with pebbles then sand). All the best!

      UG doesn't necessarily cause an algae outbreak and can hold to the soil quite well. If a section begins to float or becomes detached from the substrate, then you can uproot that area and replant, and then add extra soil adound the edges, or you can even use stainless steel wire and bend a small portion into a U shape and staple the UG down.

    UG, my old friend, and nemesis! Haha. I like your method of adding the sand after the plants have grown to limit algae growth on the sand. Sorry to hear about the algae infestation. What was the main cause of the algae outbreak?

    • @buiscape
      @buiscape  Před rokem +2

      Light was low, sunlight also played a factor, not enough plants im sure as well!

      Also the rocks maybe, I'm strugling with tous amano rocks, the change of parameters (kh and pH) make grow algae.

    beautiful way to show your aquascape built. maybe the algae problem is due to too little water change, I change 50% every week, and I try add as little fertilizer as possible, not to much food and the right CO2 balance is also important and 8 hours light max. add beneficial bacteria. 🙂

    • @buiscape
      @buiscape  Před rokem +2

      Thank you! I did heavy water changes before it crashed, even 50% (before adding fish) but I didn't have enough plants, light was very strong and also the tank was set up near a window so sun light was also a factor. It was ambitious and difficult trying to control all the variables.

    • @buiscape

      I wanted the UG to carpet first and knowing it’ll take weeks to months I wanted to add sand in after to prevent it getting dirty over time.

    Even with all those floating plants you lost to algae? That should not be, as floating plants absolutely decimate algae.

    • @buiscape

      Unfortunately not the case, hair algae took over the roots of the frog bit. This tank was also placed near a window in which I was hoping I could balance together with everything else.
      I have another tank placed near direct sun light using Hornwort to decimate the algae though!
