    This was great - and really helpful too. Seeing UK streets handled 'out loud' is completely relatable. And I think I'm maybe doing the lunge turn after all when I thought I couldn't! - I don't know. More videos like this would be really welcome. Thanks for posting it 🙏

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  Před měsícem +1

      Good to know. I watch the USA/Canadian skaters and having skated there myself I observe how most of their main roads are larger, at least 2 or 3 lanes and all the traffic is going in the same direction. The UK's streets are tiny and narrow in comparison and usually always 2 way traffic, so this hugely increases the risks as cars are always pulling out onto the street etc. Street skating in the USA for me is so relaxing compared to the UK.....

I prefer the footage from the Insta360 when he's holding it, but I needed to experiment with holding it myself. but that's not my preference. I need to build up some bicep strength first, it's not light!

Looking at content of your Beginner and Intermediate courses I felt that I didnt want to invest in the Beginner course and then have to buy the intermediate almost straight after and I could just move straight to the intermediate and save money .... but I just had a bad day today so think I just do need to start with the complete basics.

    Looks good for a first time usage and getting used to the camera and weight of the stick It is definitely another thing to get used to. We are in the same age group, I am a little on in age than you though. LOL!! Please don't think me too forward or "cringey" but you are my favorite skater to watch. You move and flow so smoothly, skillfully, and dare I say sexy... sexily? I have learned a-lot from your videos and will be getting your intermediate and advanced courses. I used to skate ALL the TIME, when I was a kid on quads in the 70's and 80's, took a break and in the mid to late 90's through mid 2000's skated inline, literally 4-5 days per week when it wasn't pouring rain (though I had a few times) or sub zero temperatures on snow covered streets.
    I used to do all kinds of free skating on my old Roces fitness skates, lots of ridiculously steep down hills and went through or dodged everything the city, parks and town streets would throw at me. Fast forward to 2021...I was 52 at the time.. I had not been on skates for about 15+ years and I was hit by some fear on the slightest decline on a sidewalk, the bumps in the parking lot felt extra bumpy and stopping, T-Stop, power slides and "hockey stops" were out of reach for me... I had to buy a brake for my skates... felt like putting on training wheels. I actually bought pads and a helmet and I wear them without worry about "not being cool" LOL. Now I'm 54 and have found myself even more into skating this year now that I have some time set aside.
    Thank you for making these videos and your instruction videos, I look forward to purchasing your advanced and intermediate in the next few days.

      I love hearing people's "Return to Skating" stories and it's very common to have that experience of skating a LOT and then returning years later to find new fears with skating, anxieties about any slopes and a new assessment of risk that our younger selves simply didn't have. Well done for getting the heel brake on as it's the fastest way to relearn safely an build confidence while you crack on and learn a bunch of other stopping methods. Isn't it great being older and caring less about the cool factor. I always tell my students there's nothing cool about getting hurt or ending up in hospital.....
      I am absolutely sure that you working through the Intermediate and then Advanced online course will keep you focussed and progressing in each session. It's otherwise hard to stay on track, not get bored, complacent or scared by random stuff happening. I'm sure your body will have lots of "Ah-ha" moments as it relearns things that were automatic decades ago..... Do let us know how you go.
      Where are you based? I hope you have some suitable skate locations outdoors for all the practice you're going to be doing.....

      @@SkatefreshVideos Hello Asha!! Taking a break from my busy day. I am located in Wisconsin Dells Wisconsin area. I have a few places to skate as I get back into this lifestyle that I loved and will get heavy back into it again as time and weather allows me to. I am skating and practicing at a new school with new parking lots, tracks and sidewalks. Some nice roads too that are being built, perfect for skating. I will be getting a stick and camera soon to record my progress in health and abilities and maybe make a channel.
      Yes.. the cool factor. LOL!!! I have some progress to make on that but it is nice to not worry about the pads and the helmet and brake, they actually make pretty "cool" looking stuff to wear... makes it look like I have my leg and glute muscles back from almost 20 years ago. Things are starting to come back with each skate session, T stop is back, some of my other motions are coming back too... just have to put them together to look more "graceful" and smooth like they used to be. Right now I look like a charging bull on wheels, kind of at the rough stage at the moment, but that will smooth out soon. Thank you for the response and look forward to further correspondence as time goes by in the future as I progress.
      Stay healthy and safe and have a great day.

    I've also found the side and or the following cam view to be best, when skating backwards.
    One tip I'll give for the BEST quality possible, is to use the PC desktop app to export the video files. Do NOT use the mobile app, unless you want your files limited to 1080 resolution, which is a waste since the X3 captures 4K.

    any recommendations for routes to skate in brighton? i usually just go the length of the seafront or the backroads to shoreham. dont mind uphills but dont like downhills.

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  Před měsícem

      Lewes Rd and London Rd have now been resurfaced and they are pretty flat. But unless you gain some downhill speed control & reliable stopping methods, you'll always be limited on slopes.
      I'm running a Stops & Slides class in Brighton Sunday 9th June. This could be your first step to getting downhill fluency on your radar. Details here;

    What's the weight distribution on both legs when backwards scissor just free riding? How do you manage to jump a one meter area with what looked a minimal of jump?

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  Před měsícem +1

      A cruising backwards Scissor position needs more weight on the trailing leg about 60-70% so that if you roll over a surface obstacle or rougher patch, the leading skate will be lighter so won't 'catch' on it and trip you up.
      The backwards jumps I do over metal covers (and other things that I want to avoid rolling over) do probably cover a distance or 1-3m with a pretty small jump. How? High speed. Video is a little deceptive in terms of showing speed and the most frequent comment I get in real life for example during a street skate is surprise at how fast I can go backwards. SO with higher speed and a tiny jump I cover several metres easily. If I was going half the speed I'd have to jump twice as high. Higher jumps are more risky as the landing needs to be very solid. But I'm not advocating people go super fast backwards unless they are comfortable with that speed. Backward speed takes many years to develop safely so no rush!

      Sorry you're having this challenge but it's a very common issue when having ti buy online and being unable to try boots on beforehand.
      Can I ask you about the foot pain you had in the size 8s? Was it aa rubbing/too tight pain as in, was the boot putting pressure on specific parts of your foot eg little toe getting crushed or ball of the foot going numb due to the toe box being too narrow for your foot? Or did you have red, rubbed areas on your feet or the beginning of blisters forming? These are all signs of skates being too small for sure.
      However there are lots of different kinds of foot pains and rubbing, tightness, pressure points are just one cause of skater foot pain.
      The other kinds of foot pain are different and are more muscular, cramp-like or acheyness which intensifies to the point you need to remove the skates and then the pains instantly disappear. If you had those kinds of pains then they are less likely to be caused by the skates being too small and more likely are about extreme foot tension and 'gripping' with the toes. This is all unconscious and usually not obvious unless you really study it and put your attention in your feet and the soles of your feet when actually skating to see if you can identify one kind of pain from this other kind of pain.
      If it's the second kind, then this is caused by incorrect technique and having your weight too far back on your foot/feet, such as mid-foot or towards the heel. This causes the toes to grip like crazy to maintain balance and this gripping causes horrendous pains after about 5-10 minutes.
      Are you 100% sure your pains are the "skates too small" pains? Has this given you any further insights you can share?

    • @dabigcheeze
      @dabigcheeze Před měsícem

      @@SkatefreshVideos Wow thank you for the response!! And it felt more so being crushed by the boot. It is the upper part of my foot just below my toes was being crushed by the skate. Both feet started to go numb after skating with them for about two weeks. At first, I thought it was just due to me breaking them in and possibly the technique as you said but I read your feet should not be getting crushed or feeling any pain. They were getting so uncomfortable I couldn't even skate and had to take them off. As soon as I took them off, I had no pain in my feet at all after about 5 minutes each time I skated. I was thinking of buying mens because I have wide feet for a woman and even when they say its wide, it's usually not enough.
