Penn Hills Resort was a honeymoon resort located in community of Analomink, in Stroud Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania, in the Pocono Mountains region near the Borough of East Stroudsburg. Founded as a tavern in 1944, it expanded to over a hundred rooms before closing in 2009.
Penn Hills Resort, bubble bath, circa 1970's
View of the Penn Hills Resort pool, shaped like a wedding bell, suffering neglect after the resort was abandoned. August, 2012
The 500 acre resort grew in the 1960s to include a ski resort and a golf course. Guest villas featured floor-to-ceiling carpeting, round beds, and heart-shaped bathtubs.nDistinctive, modernist streetlights from the 1964 World's Fair were installed, as well as an ice rink and a wedding bell shaped outdoor swimming pool.
Billed as a "Paradise of Pocono Pleasure" and a place of "unbridled passion", the resort catered to Swinging, young couples who enjoyed archery and tennis and danced at modestly lavish New Year's Eve parties where the motto was "No balloon goes unpopped.
In 2009, Penn Hills co-founder Frances Paolillo died at the age of 102. The resort closed less than two months later. Workers' final paychecks were never issued, and the resort owed the county over $1 million in back taxes. Already in serious disrepair, flooding and copper thieves damaged the buildings further, and the resort was abandoned.
Monroe County has tried auctioning the property to pay off some of the taxes, but as of 2012 it remains unsold. - Zábava
I actually stayed here for a week back in the late 70s. I got caught in a snow storm and got snowed in near Mt. Pocono and this was the only place I could find a room that a taxi could still get to.
The room they had me in had a Champagne glass for a "bath tub". It was the coolest thing ever. It was everything you can picture a cheesy resort of this type to be and then some. They had the bathrobes, the slippers, room service 24 hours a day, the maid would go in and clean the room in the afternoon, and then come back at night and turn the bed down and leave rose petals and chocolates. And it was that maid who you scored the weed from, should you be so inclined.
The club was something else too. It had a raised stage that had a long table and thats where the Newlyweds would sit to play their version of the Newlywed Game. People in the club would write down TV Newlywed Game type questions like.. what was the last argument about? Or what friend of hers does he find most attractive. If your question was chosen and the couples answers didn't match, you got a shot of whatever you wanted. The winning couple got a bottle of Champagne, and they always shared it with the club goers. That bar at one time was heart shaped, even though you can't tell it now. And it had the same "valentines red" on it that was found everyplace though out the rooms and lodge itself.
The place was immaculate. Its 10 steps passed fucked up to see what it looks like now.
Awesome video. I'm going to go find a maid.
+Emma Crawford dam awesome!!!
+Exploring With Josh +Emma Crawford My daughter came across this video while searching for videos of Penn Hills in her glory days. This certainly brought back a bunch of lovely memories of our honeymoon. The strange thing is Emma, I read your post, I re-read your post and then I had my husband come read your posting, and if we are not mistaken and we very well could be, we think we might have been snowed in there along the side of you. Was it the Presidents Day snowstorm of 1979? Do you remember anything about Snowmen uprising? Or about the "run" that took place 2 days before they opened up the roads? Only someone that was there snowed in when we were would know about this 2 things. Did you play the Newlywed Game? I know it is a gigantic long shot to meet someone from 37 years ago in a place as vast as this, but I thought I would ask you anyway, it's worth a shot. Please let us know if any of this sounds familiar.
+Jenny Defranco Is this some kind of a joke? I know all about the run on the cigarette machine. I also remember they were .55 cents a pack for the long ones and .50 a pack for the short ones. Only someone that was there would know about the "Smoking Snowmen."
I didn't play the Newlywed game because I was there alone.
Did you ever attend one of Alices Tea Parties?
+Emma Crawford We are wondering the same thing, Is this a joke? Of course, we attended the daily tea party. It was 1979 after all! Tony, my husband wants me to ask you if you know anything about Ice Skating in the indoor arena? Or going to the hot tubs by the indoor pool? What we are confused about is that the only single lady we knew there did not have your name.
+Jenny Defranco I am guessing this is for real?? This is the internet, I do not use my real name.
As for ice skating, I remember going to the rink with my "Alice in Wonderland" friends. We were afraid the pool would not hold us to skate on, even though at one point we were thinking about trying to take a swim in it.
Do you remember a Christmas Tree?? WHO ARE YOU? What would make me know this is actually someone that I knew then? Were you guys staying in the Lodge or an outer building?
Who do you think I am??
Here's a thought: Out of all the couple's who had their honeymoon at this place, how many of their relationships are a mirror image of this abandoned resort?
😂😂😂
+Jeffrey Dotson ROAST haha
😂
my uncle had his wedding reception here
Whoaaaaa... mind blown.
Friggin' vandals ruin everything. I love when things go untouched, so explorers can enjoy abandoned places and get a better idea what it looked like before. Can't stand the assholes that destroy them.
Shut up, crybaby
4 months later. Are you proud of that comment? You should be. It was well thought out, informative and extremely effective.
Back in the 70s, you had to make reservations a year in advance. That's how popular these places were
Damn that’s crazy
I FILMED THIS VIDEO LAST YEAR THATS WHY I SAID ITS ABANDONED FOR 6 YEARS . now its been 7 years abandoned for ! lol
+Exploring With Josh xD yeah, i picked it up when you said it and didn't see the Annotation lol
really cool Josh
+Exploring With Josh josh if you ever want to know a cool abandoned place to explore there are 2 huge hospitals in maryland that are abandoned. one of them used to house children with special needs. one hospital is called collingwood psycheatric hospital and one is glen dale hospital. i always wondered what was inside but i have heard haunting stories about it, search it up, maybe it will interest you and you can go to it sometime
there is also a crownsville hospital which is huge and very easy to get inside
Why would you post it so late?
+Charlie Nelson Maryland Yas!!!!
It's a shame what people do to beautiful places like this. If I was a millionaire I would look at these places and fix them. People probably had amazing memories them and I would love to c these places restored again
+Olivia Bernd That's how I think about it, too. Like my house. It was built in 1838. Think about all of the people who lived here before me! It always makes me sad to see places left to rot that could have been repurposed, or at the very least furnishings donated to needy people. So much waste.
+Larry Shinn (Tiny Cabin) Same here buddy it is such a waste to see all that gone
Wow what's it like living in toy land Olivia. Do you not fancy joining in with reality now and again... If I had a space ship I would go wizzing round the world really fast until I was dizzy and had to lye down ! Know what I mean ..
+Olivia Bernd I agree, I feel especially heartbroken when I see some abandoned and almost destroyed chateau and I can see it used to be pretty, it is such a shame. This is why I admire people who invest their time and money in reconstructing such places. I´d like to be one of them someday too.
that it EXACTLY what I think when I watch these videos. Everything must have been beautiful, and ppl just go and ruin everything. Even the most expensive things they ruin! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this :3
You DO NOT want to shine a blacklight on those mattresses!
Why
+Storm Wolf1434 facepalm
I really don't know
+Storm Cuber14 Many people had hardcore sex on those mattresses, so there must be many cum stains on them.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I actually live about 15 minutes away from Penn Hills my mom worked there when she was younger, now it have fences around the entire resort and you get in a lot of trouble if your caught in it.From what i've heard Penn Hills has a new owner and I think they are planning to do something with it. You should take a look into Birchwood resort some friends and I looked through it and it looks like everyone just left its amazing
The new owner might will tear it down and build something new?
Brittney Miller is birchwood abandoned also. I live about 30 mins from penn hills
Ron Martin Yes it had been abandoned for years my whole family worked at Birchwood and I actually still have plates Bowls cups all from Birchwood
Syreadisa they've been saying all kinds of stuff nobody truly knows what's going to happen anymore
Well, new capital could modernize it well for it's next bankruptcy if they fail to market it properly like they should take into account that many stable marriages are the second and might have to be bringing kids with them on their honeymoon.
I spent my honeymoon there 16 years ago. it's so sad to see. people are horrible to damage that place so bad. it was so beautiful there.
Barbara Power I'm actually doing a project on how this place has changed over the years. I was wondering if you'd be open to emailing me about your experiences there and how it's changed. let me know!
Shelby Yarchin email address?? No problem
Barbara Power My email is Shelbyyarchin@gmail.com, thank you so much!!
comment section:
98% of people saying that the banged on the beds
2% of people saying that they were there when it was not abandoned
Why the need to destroy, even if it was abandoned? I would have claimed those apartments if I was an homeless or a hobo, not destroy it! What a wast! Sad.
Don't know if you'll see this, but I believe someone recently bought the property and made it into a really nice rehab center.
A lot of people were probably conceived there 😂
Its was honeymooners not whores and prostitutes 🙄
Yup....me... :D
Haley L add me on insta @zonee.4
@@PopCultureFan_ omg
Oh if those mattresses could talk

ew, i dont want to know lol
It would probably just tell you it got fucked up. lol
Legend has it that if you put your ear to the mattresses you can hear them cry"kiiiilll meeeee"
Vexatron Primal Theywuld say...I got screwed over.
Think of all the sex that happened in these places
Lmao
😂😂😂 that cracked me up so much
Yep. Swingers & total debauchery. Random Penn Hills babies I'm sure lol
i thing there are so many matreses because they fuck have sex and hump
Me 2! 😂
I hate how people vandalize these kind of places.
humans ruin everything
It's a disgrace
@Izzynasty 95 Please tell us why you think it's great.
@Izzynasty 95 Sorry, "cuz i sed so" isn't a REASON as to why you think it's "great" to vandalize and destroy property.
@Izzynasty 95 oh well, if you and your pals stop doing it (especially since you have no reason) there won't be anything to clean up
I honeymooned there in 1991. I was 24yrs old my (ex) husband was 25. We had the room with the round bed and heart shaped jacuzzi. For dinner they sat us in big round tables with 5 other couples that you never met before. In the game room they had a couples game called the newlywed game, where they ask couples questions about each other. We divorced in '97, but this brings back great memories. Can't believe what it looks like now. Got to say- be careful in run down places like that and thanks for the video.
go to an abandoned Disney resort!
yassss
Yaaaaaaaaaaassssssss
+Noora Youssef Khalil there is one on treasure island, look it up it's pretty cool
+Lucyliz and there is river country
What
I live about 10 minutes away by car now and I actually saw it the summer of 2008 right before it closed down. every time I passed by in the summer on my way to my relatives I would see people on the tennis courts playing and just walking around the resort in general, I wondered what had happened to it the next summer when I came up from the city again and saw no activity. each year after that it's been like watching a slow motion time lapse video (in real time though) of how much the resort has decayed
is it still there
Hello! Is it still standing??
Ugh, I feel like I'm inhaling that black mold just looking at those rooms, just awful.
Da Boz that's 40 year old jizz trying to become human
Just think how many people banged on those beds....
ALL OF THEM
😆
Lol
The eternal question, how many couples right now?
I kept expecting a zombie or homeless person to jump scare us
Same
Same
+Alyssa Orona I bet someone does live there
+Zechariah Boswell They same homeless people do live there. I live really close and pass it a lot but I haven't seen any. I walked around it a few times but never in it, it's pretty cool. It's also rumored to be haunted but no one has ever really gone to investigate.
+Gucci Penguin I do
I will clean all that up and live there xd
Agreed
I'll help out
+Sorteos | Giveaways can i join
Bruh sameeeee
Blood orgys!
Does anybody else find it adorable when he messes up a sentence and reword it to repeat himself? Just me? ok..
L
Catherine S just u... it's an annoyance
I think it's cute too
same.... haha
I think it’s cute to
It really annoys me how such a beautiful place in a beautiful area has been vandalised and broken. I hope someone gets the money to open it back up again because a lot of people would be happy. Please no negative comments
damn josh back at it again with the cute face
right😂😂
+XmelissaXsandovalX 🤔🤔🤔
I know right.
Omg. This is awesome.
+DaTa Evo lol why the fuck is that thirsty? ^^
This place used to have the 1964 world's fair lamps on the property. I'm so glad someone came in, and got those out of there before they were destroyed. Thanks for the tour Josh :D The property just sold to a new owner, and they are clearing out the grounds so we will see what they do with the actual buildings. -Christina
Last I saw josh only had 96,000 subs so glad people kept subbing ^^ -Lee, South Korea

Josh's new motto: F.A.D - Forgotten, Abandoned, Destroyed.
Actually it's
Destroyed
Abandoned
Forgotten
You know you got trustworthy friends when you casually turn your back to a mossy pool.
I have to say, I'm pretty new to your channel. I was bored and found your videos and was hooked! Subscribed to you.

When you had plans to go to this place to have a nice tacky bath in a champagne glass shaped tub because you didn't know it was closed down -_-
lol sucks
miya gisele no baby girl that one is still open..
erin Vogler oh thank god lol
That was ONE BABY MAKING resort in the early 90's! ;)~
I like when you find some background information on these places. It's cool the commercial in the beginning , showing this place was once a really nice get away, to what it is now.
6 years looks equivalent to 20+ years of abandonment in that place.
Yes it does
To bad people destroy things, would way cooler to see how things rot.
I Went to Pen Hills in 1995
With my first love.
I love the extra touch of those really grainy, old commercials about a now abandoned place.
The whole place was sold in March 2016.
to who???
i dont know
how do you know
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penn_Hills_Resort
Turborider and u can't trust Wikipedia people can edit that so I believe it when I c it
reminds me of The Last Of Us
Same
Yes omg
Bruh I was just thinking of that
Good game,
“Any toys left down here?” I wondering wat “toys” he referring to lol
me too
This was the first place my husband and I went to when we just graduated high school in 1997. It wasn't the greatest place to stay but to see this video brings back memories. Really cool and they only had heart shaped tubs and round beds. Never heard the heart shaped bed. Thanks for filming. However, we stayed at the Caesar's resorts that have the champagne tower jacuzzis and it's a great place to go to as well. What pisses me off is that they will take new land and build newer buildings instead of cleaning up this land. The sad thing is that people destroyed what was once a beautiful resort.
That's was nice too see" I work there when it was open". I been all over the place when people came to stay there" the pool was nice" the game room and the bar, good lord that was fun to be... Can you walk up the hill on top where the houses was!!!! Please" it's up way up in the back on your right!! Lol,, That outside view was lovely !!! You see the falls from the window!! They all had a den chair in grill, outside!!
I;m not gonna lie, I'm only here to get cool ideas for haircuts.
Wtf
Well he only uses one haircut style in all of his videos. You're out of luck.
+Genuine Chocolate Face It's just your basic vanilla ice hairstyle
+Gottheit ICE ice Baby come on,Chocolate Face only here for Hair cut Ideas??? only here for that reason, Things that make you go Huumm?
josh is exploring an abandoned homeymoon resort. where do u think youll get a hair cut idea!!
Adding that commercial was a nice touch! :D
This looks so cool. There´s something strangely fascinating about these exploring abandoned places videos. Definitely subbing! I wonder how many homeless people are living in those rooms and sweets.
omg congrats on 1 million!!!!!!!!! we all love you Josh
I called the number and someone answered.🤣
There's a Nicole Dollanganger's song named 'heart shaped bed' and on her Instagram you can find photos of her in a heart shaped jacuzzi, idk if it's the exact place but it came to my mind
I love ur vids! your my new favourite youtuber! keep it up love you xx
i cant thank you enough for making these videos, its so cool to watch. ive been to some places my self but not anywear near so cool like the ones you guys finds. please keep on the great work and love your videos and the places you guys find. thank you so much 😀 greeting from norway!
@5:26 I know I'm not the only one that sees that Bobby shmurda reference. "Hot *igga*"
I'm searching for 'love heart shaped beds'
Cindy Chen literally saw this comment RIGHT as josh said I’m searching for love heart shaped beds lol 😂
I grew up five minutes from this place. I remember going inside with my dad back in the early 2000s as a kid but didnt know what it was until I got older.
I used to live right by there 6 yrs ago, and it was run down but still maintained. It a shame to see that it really got vandalized so much. I was shocked to see how bad it looks now. Keep up the good work Josh. I watch all your videos. Thanks for the history on the places you go to visit.
I genuinely enjoy your videos and I love the places you find, they're so interesting. Though it's so hard to watch when the camera is swung around so much, it makes me nauseous :/
I was waiting for one of them to say "imagine how many babies were accidentally made here"
Wow this was a great video i really enjoyed! its so sad to see places that were once so beautiful and thriving all torn up and abandoned....everything was amazing at once time and wow love the wooded areas and pond.
i wish i had adventurous friends like him. doing stuff like this weekly would be so much fun
Signed in just so I can like this vid and subscribe :3. Very, very cool . I'm strangely hooked.

More like a life after people vibe
ME ME ME
I get a Mario & Luigi partners in time toad town vibe, don't judge me, look it up, the toads are being strapped to trees to gain UFO fuel!
Thanks for the inside tour! I must have driven past this resort over two dozen times and I always wondered what it looked like inside. It's a shame it shut down as it looks like it was a very nice mountain resort.
Adam Hollingsworth hey I live like 30 mins from penn hills so I was wondering if it is still there or is it demolished??
Great to see the before shots and old footage of the places you visit
Josh you are so awesome! You show us that life is not always about getting drunk or taking drugs. Thank You !
Go back and save that furniture. That stuff's worth some money.
SELF-RELIANCE and a STRONG COMMUNITY No it's not. Do you know how pricing things works?
Will E
No it's not? You obvoiusly don't know anything about mid century modern.
Haha risk getting haunted or cursed but $800 though...Nah I'll just stay poor.
TeddyDog0-0
Nothing like letting fear keep you from making decent money.
I can see the beauty that resort once had. It looks like it was already run down when it closed but to see it like that is beyond sad.
I commented on your other video then me and my momma found this video! Thank you so much for sharing this! It was amazing!!
"Previously on AMC's The Walking Dead"
I love watching your guyses videos and watching you explore all of these abandoned places but I find it disgusting that people would purposely vandalize these places it's just the dumbest thing that people can do
Wow I'm so I awe at your videos, I could see me exploring places like this in my younger days. Now I'm a trucker barely have to to sleep much less play I still enjoy hiking on weekends I hike the ice age trail, well a portion of it. It runs the whole state of Wisconsin. +Exploring With Josh I really like your vids it's really amazing that you are brave enough to to enter creepy places epically that mentally ill people which was so creepy
The guy has only so much time in a year.
Josh you do cool videos of like old abandoned places it is so cool
I love how u goes to photography mode suddenly with the sinister music
Dude 7 years it's 2016
+John Tosten I FILMED THIS VIDEO LAST YEAR THATS WHY I SAID ITS ABANDONED FOR 6 YEARS . now its been 7 years abandoned for ! lol
+Exploring With Josh Are you in Germany or youre back
+sarah najafi he filmed this last year and uploaded it yesterday.
Hahahah Yas ^
+John Tosten no shit. its not like josh already said it like ...100 times?
I was wondering how you find all the places your go?
This probably sounds really weird but i find something beautiful about abandoned places. i dunno, i see the rooms where peoples slept, eat, talk and danced in and the hall ways people onced walked through and the memories made within the walls. Theres something beautiful about it.
+Courtney Cooke I feel the same way. I love historic sites and now I'm kind of getting into abandoned ones.
I have passed by this place a few times, glad I can finally see what it's like!
The bath tub reminds me from the movie Dumb and Dumber lol! Who agrees?
GlitterGamingHQ None.
like how many babies were made in here? haha great video!
Mariana Martínez Pichardo lol
i'm exploring this resort in june. we're going to a lake and we drive right through the resort. most of my family lives about 15 minutes away. my great grandfather would take my mom and her brothers here to eat, and apparently they had frog legs and my great grandfather would always order them. my uncle also had his wedding reception here.
-
if you're still in the poconos, you should explore the buck hill falls resort.
My dad manages land debt and he has probably over 15,000 places around the us that you would loose your mind. Hotels, mansions, free mason tunnels it's wicked bro
spirited away tub lmao he's so cute
Dude I was around during penn hills population it was funny how on tv they advertise it
Idk why but it's really comforting to know that josh have a mask thingy
You should totally do one of them 360 interactive videos so we can experience one of these places with you!
Woah, what camera is he using. The quality is amazing
What do you expect from an era that is much more into trashing things than building them up?
For real !
I have literally just been binge watching your vids for the past few days
Dude I'm a huge fan. I love your adventure videos. I was just wondering how the heck do you find these sick areas. Please let me know
Is there a way you could higher the FOV of your camera?
Damn Serenity didn't know you watched this!

+Serenity17 i wish man ! :/ i just got a new lens that helped the fov! but not that much better i would love a full frame camera !
+Exploring With Josh I see, btw you're a big inspiration dude!
thanks man means alot!!!
think of all the people who were conceived there
You missed the waterfall by the gazebo behind the rooms.. It's really pretty... the old fernwood resort had round beds, it's been closed for a few years now the arcade caught fire a few weeks ago... monks plan to rebuild and restore all the buildings..
That pool could be a mini swamp lol
You should record with a 360° camera
Abandoned building reminds me of death for some reason.
you are gaining subscribers so damn fast! yesterday you had like eight hundred eighty thousand subs and now 908 017, good job!
I used to live in Cresco in 2009. I would always pass that place when I would go back home and I always wondered if it was always abandoned. It’s sad how history gets destroyed so quickly. It has a lot of potential and I hope someone brings it back alive.
