It breaks my heart that Soyeon believed her trauma and experiences weren’t “enough” for the show... no one should ever feel like their experiences or feelings are less than anyone else’s... all are valid

Wasn‘t it because she thought that she had experienced what the other couldn‘t. Before the scandal she had a really successful career with T-ARA but the other group such as Wassup or Crayon Pop weren‘t. I understood it as such that she wanted the others to give a chance to have that experience as well.

But did she actually want to be a part of another group ? Soyeon was so lazy in T-ara, she barely move and did the choreographies. She was way worse than jennie bcs atleast jennie did it in one period time, soyeon did it in almost every single comeback and concerts that she attended. Worse is, She was the main vocalist and could absolutely sing very beautifully but then she barely sing live anymore, even jiyeon who has no foundation in singing was more stable than her, not bcs jiyeon has a great technique or anything but bcs soyeon just didnt bother to sing.

it's so infuriating, isn't it? i hope that the show and that part of it gives the audience in korea and (hopefully) the industry a wake up call. i know the industry part probably won't happen as there are many money hungry people at the top of it. but maybe it'll inspire someone to start a company that treats their employees more fairly and gives their artists better recognition financially.

Only YG gives more than 50%
Big hit and JYP around 40-50%

While other companies don't even pay the artists for first 4-5 years.

    • @fhorsey
      @fhorsey Před 3 lety +82

There is the consideration of all the cost of food, transportation, and training (plus the money it takes to buy, record, produce, and distribute a song) that companies have to spend money for in advance.
That’s why not even Baek Jiyoung has seen that kind of contract.
That contract is impossible unless the artist is working with the composer. No middle agent. And! The song writer hasn’t sold the song, he is also in on the profit distribution.
I do agree that most idol contracts and the percent of their earnings that they actually get to keep is bad. And too often awful and abusive.

The training period is so rigourous that they can't pursue an education, even as a backup, often pursuing college degrees that have little to no use in helping them find a stable job. The idol world is such a high risk high reward system. Their careers are expected to be short lived and if they make it, they make all the money they can in that short time and invest that in to ventures that will hopefully sustain them for the rest of their lives. Otherwise they are doomed. Either they go back to university to study and get a job or are left working different part time jobs, trying to make ends meet.

The side people don't even address from Saesangs, strict diets, strict exercise, packed schedules, strict company rules, strict contracts, being under paid, company mistreatment, online b*llies, s*xualization of group members (especially the younger ones) and so much more. Mental health is a joke it seems, every little thing is monitored and at times treated like a scandal. Like for instance when they show their true emotions, people tend to call the idol rude or cold. The threat from Hyoyoung was bad and I'm not going to make any excuse for it, but it came after three days of an acrimonious dispute between Hwayoung and the other members and marks the end of Hwayoung's involvement in the group.

If there were a season two of Miss Back I'd want to see Minzy from 2ne1 (amazing dancer and underrated vocalist) Woori from Rainbow (she was my Bias in the group) Sally from Gugudan (always had a nice tone and delivery in her parts) Gyuri from KARA (Gyuri was a low key vocal powerhouse) and Jia from Miss A (it'd be nice to see one of the other members of Miss A get a chance to shine as a Solo Artist in Korea again or for the first time).
Miss Back was a show that confirmed for some a lot of the darker aspects of the industry what happened with Stellar will always bother me as if you simply take it on the music, vocals, and lyrics they were given everyone in that group gave 100% when they performed. Songs like Crying, Insomnia, Love Spell, Cinderella, UFO, The Wave, and Fool (the concept for the MV was cute) not to mention Archangels Of The Sephiroth all could have been hits but instead the sort of vicious rumor-mongering that exists with some people combined with the label thinking that a succès de scandale as a sustainable way to make a group successful.
I was not aware of the "fan war" between Darlings and BaNas being that serious just wow! I saw DALsooobin on Music Core last year and was impressed by her vocals I had no idea she was a member of Dal Shabet. It's weird, being from the u.s., to bear about things that are considered scandalous in Korea. Going to a club, smoking (although unhealthy, not scanadlous,) dating, drinking, wearing sexy clothing, having adult fun of any kind. Those are all things that are very regular occurrences in our culture. In fact, it is sometimes weird to not see famous people going out & everyone generally wears their own style now, which for many is sexy, revealing clothing. It's unfortunate that South Korean idols are expected to maintain such impossible standards when they are just people like the rest of us & they too need a release from reality sometimes.
As a fan, I don't feel like this is as standard today in kpop as in the past, do you? I still think restrictions on idol relationships is overly harsh & unnecessary, as everyone needs love. However, fans that are more aware of current Korean's feelings please tell me, is there still the same stigma around drinking & clubbing as before?

Korea is still a very much conservative society, despite what kpop would have you think. The vast majority of Korean people still have views on "scandalous" behavior akin to what America thought, say, back in the seventies, which makes sense if you think about it. It's important to remember that the South Korean republic was established less than 100 years ago, and Korea's rapid rise from 3rd-world to 1st-world explains some things about the current culture.
It really depends on the region you're in: places like Hongdae and Gangnam have a very lively drinking and clubbing culture, but in less urbanized (and youthful) regions, usually outside of Seoul, you probably won't find hemlines as short or crazy hair colors. Just like some small-town midwestern cities in the US would consider clubbing and drinking to be particularly wild in comparison to the LA nightlife, the same is in Korea, just on a different scale. Generally I feel as if the new generation is gaining a much more liberal view of "fun" (as the nightlife is usually centered around college towns, Hongdae being an example) and Korea will continue to change. I don't live in Korea, so some of this might be a misperception, but this is the sense I get from visiting and consuming Korean media.

I hear that many of these restrictions are b/c the companies behind these idols want the fans to "project" whatever they want onto the idols and imagine themselves being with them in a romantic way. It's hard for fans to imagine themselves with the idols if the idols date or have lives outside of carefully planned songs/ads.

I saw a clip, it was from Hello Counselor. There was one girl who complained that her boyfriend or brother (I forgot) was body shaming her - calling her "fat" though she has an average body. F(x) was also there. One host asked the guy that what's his standard weight to look skinny and if there was one of the members who think has a great body. Then he body shamed Sulli because she looks fat to him. (She looks skinny to me) After that, not sure if that was one of the reasons why she lost weight but damn.. the body standard in Korea is too unrealistic. Seriously.

Good thing that i did not join the hate bandwagon back then, it's so confusing since some of the celebs who were the girls work with in their solo activities spoke up and said the girls are nice and its impossible for them to did what accused to them, yet the medias kept blew up the case with new 'proves' almost every single day 😵
