the fact that you're even making content while actively in residency is beyond amazing. im grateful for ANYTHING you upload, so thank you for all the effort you put into this:)
IT'S NOT EVEN SATURDAY AHHHHHHHHHH
I KNOW🥳🥳🥳🤠
@@RachelSouthard hi how are you feeling at the moment and my friend thinks your 5'7"
How tall are you
"if you disagree that's fine, go off in the comments" lmaoo
All jokes aside, thank you for the video! Loved it very much 💙
😂 just keepin it real
Thank you Bethany!
thank you so much for being an advocate for residents / medical students and pushing for changes to the status quo of over-working residents. i'm not a medical student myself, but my sister and many friends are. it's ironic how the field of medicine treats burnout, sleep deprivation, etc. yet continues to enable residents to develop these same conditions through inhumane working hours. You speaking up and promoting changes will have an impact and help a future generation of doctors!
"He's a little podcast" is such a cute comparison! I'm so happy for you Rachel
I work for a very large medical facility. I feel like calling doctors by their title is out of respect. Even though they always introduce themselves by their first name, I can't call them by their first name. Kind of like when I run into a teacher I had in HS. I can not call them by their first name, it is always Mr. or Mrs, Ms. Thank you for all of the content you provide, it is nice to know what my residents go through and why they may be short with their words when they are on their 24+ hour shift and they're also "on-call" to take patient calls for their service. Your videos give me some understanding and grace for them. I completely understand where ur coming from as well. Thank you for all you do for us, your patients, nurses and fellow doctors.
I feel you! As a recent graduate from residency, I cannot help but call my colleagues (especially older ones) by their last name + Dr. title, just like I would call an attending as a resident, because it felt weird calling them by their first names. On the other hand, people call me by my last name because my ethnic first name is spelled too weird for people's pronounce
I also remember when I was so tired and frustrated and sad while on-call, that once or twice my words got short with the nurses. Afterwards I always feel so bad and spend lot of time apologizing. Your understanding is definitely appreciated by the residents.
Omg what a treat it’s not even Saturday
yay to moving in together !! Here's to the new exciting chapter!! So happy for you!
So exciting!
Im a first year med student who is repeating first year. The pressure is a lot. A few days ago, I got bit by a dog, and my first thought was "i need to study." That really made me realise that I need to stop putting so much pressure on myself. It's hard to take a step back from school, especially as a repeating student. But it can't be my entire life, which it currently is.
I hope you heal up quickly! Take some time for yourself when you can
Those smiles when talking about Patrick - so, so sweet! Thanks for sharing that part of your life!
As an R1 in Family Medicine, I have to say that I COMPLETELY resonate with not talking about medicine outside of work. It’s so hard when family ask for advice but I joke (not really) that my work hours are from 9-5 M-F and anything outside of that will be charged. That always seems to do the trick and gets a little laugh lol
I love how you advocate for exercise! It’s so important and it seems majority of people don’t understand that. You have motivated me to try and move more
I've written thank you cards to my OBs, but we always ordered a giant basket of goodies to be delivered to the nurses' station of the maternity ward.
This video made me tear up. You’re such a good human and motivate me to work hard☺️
You can do it!
Can’t wait!!!!❤❤❤

I LOVE YOUR SCRUB COLOR SO MUCH 😢!!!!!
Aren’t they’re gorgeous! From Jaanuu!
Hi, when you said nurses call you doctor Southard I realized that people are gonna call me doctor mylastname in a year when I finish the school and it sounds a little scary. 😂It´s really nice that you and your boyfriend are happy together, congratulations on that 🥰. You are absolutely glowing. 😍 It you were searching for some recommendations for your future videos, I would love to hear about some of your childhood experience or the place where you grew up.
yes yes yes about first & foremost Rachel... I'm an FY1 in the UK (equivalent of an intern) and I ALWAYS introduce myself as Hello Im Louise, I'm one of the doctors' and cringe when ppl insist on calling me 'Doctor' (unless ppl genuinely don't know my name!)
Love this & love your attitude - I'm newly qualified and I personally would prefer to be known by my fitst name too, I've been told that is unprofessional etc, but I really don't believe that I'll be a worse doctor just simply by deciding against enforcing a specific title! Congrats Rachel, I'm also the first person in my extended family to go to university & then become a Doctor 🥰
Hello Stranger..Always a Pleasure to see you..... Thank you for all you do but..please take care of you my dear friend❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh my gosh, literally me when I walked into a coffee shop yesterday before my overnight shift thinking the exact same thing😂 Word for word you’ve read my mind. 😅
What a great Q & A!!! So happy Patrick is moving in!!!
Oh I’m assuming you took Dr out of your instagram profile because as you mentioned, you aren’t just a doctor? That would make perfect sense. Love you Rachel. Keep doing you!
These scrubs are soooooo pretty
It's almost July \o/ Would love to see a video reflecting on your past year and your growth.
Thanks for the bonus video.
OMGGGG 💍💍💍💍💍
So excited for this new chapter for y’all! It was a treat getting another video from you!🫶🏿💍
Yay! Thank you!🙂↔️😊
You and your partner are so cute. It makes me so happy for you!!! You are so deserving of an amazing person.
Post what you want
we just like to see you
Hey Rachel! Great video as always and not even on a Saturday what a treat Lol! Just wanted to make a kind suggestion about ur hair thinning: have u tried the product called Nutrafol? They have a whole host of vitamins to help with hair thinning and other stuff. I think it was founded by a med student. I haven’t used any of their products but have seen the commercials and heard great things abt it. And another product called Curology for ur skincare/acne (again haven’t used it myself but have heard great things)😊. Hope this helps and I wish u great continued success ❤
I think it’s fantastic and so important that you value work/life balance but I’m wondering how feasible that is in such a demanding speciality such as OBGYN. I remember when I was pregnant with my first and my treating OBGYN said yeah, I don’t deliver anymore, I need sleep!
Super cool of you to be humble about being a doctor. On the opposite side, how do you feel about other medical professions saying they're doctors cuz they have a doctorate?
While i agree it's an accomplishment, I believe there's a time and a place for referring yourself as a doctor so depends on context.
Like I have an OTD, but I feel uncomfortable with being called a doctor because it's out of respect for those doctors of medicine like my sister who is also a DO and a Rachel.
How much is taught about endometriosis in med school? Have you seen much of it in your residency so far?
I love that you actively normalize crying =)
💐💐💐
It’s sad that there aren’t laws for residents to only work 12 hr shifts
💍
❤
Ugh my husband is a teacher and coach and ends up making like $5 an hour if you convert it to how many hours he works. 😢😢. Unfortunately he has no light at the end of the tunnel for a big salary after a few years. I don’t know how he keeps his motivation.
what made you decide on obgyn ?
How are you almost a second year resident. I remember when you were a first year medical student 😭😭
Me too holy cow. It’s been amazing seeing her growth!
If I may...ask a question...I have prostate cancer ..which I'm taking at face value..aka..letting nature run its course... along with hard to manage orthostatic hypotension. . Fatigue and energy dips seem to be calling the shots ...even gearing up ...setting up my leg bag and knee braces are mentally and physically exhausting....is this normal????
Hi, Rachel. I'm Stacy, I think you're great.
Oh thank you!I think you’re wonderful, Stacy!
PEople saying they are Dr this and that and you are at work then fine, but when you ar not, no one gives a shit :P
I agree with you!
It's just a sprofesianal to say Nurse Jones to me.
I feel like I aged so much during residency! My skin texture, dark circles, wrinkles and overall tiredness lol
Ummmm 💍💍💍
💍💍💍💍💍💍
16:30 💍💍
Such a baddie
I am not asking this in any kind of bad way. Knowing that obgyn is an intense specialty have you considered doing something else? Like dermatology tends to be much more quiet. Rarely is there ever a dermatology emergency in the middle of the night. I am sure there are other specialties that are less intense ways to be a doctor. Can you see yourself still doing this 20, 40 years down the road?
OBGYN is the only field I am interested in. It’s my calling 😇
Omg is she ENGAGED???
Not at this point in time.
Not yet 😊
I hope he’s faithful to you because he wasn’t to me
omg??🥹🥹💍💍💍💍💍💍💍
Does obgyn residency get better or is it all hard lol you seem so tired 😴
AAAAAAH IM GOING TO LOSE MY MIND IF IT IS WHAT IT IS, so happy for youuuu🥹🥹🥹🥹😭😭🫂
when you get married do you plan on changing your name? i know there’s a ton of discourse between doctors changing their names! what are your thoughts? 🩷
I won’t be changing my name. And that’s no offense to my partner! I just want to honor my dad’s family name. And “Southard” went through medical school😊
@@RachelSouthardqueen!
I think it would be great if you chatted with a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist 🤍 I’m a PT and I know a big goal is for pre/post partum PFPT to be a standard. I’d love to know your take.
Oh man! I’d have to find one first. I don’t know any personally. But I’ll keep it in mind :)
❤
