      Both of these games are similar on certain levels, but Paradox is a large company whereas the RTW3 devs are like 2 60yo guys in a basement making a game for fun so it is visually about 9506% worse.

    Rule the waves 3 is great apart from the battle generator in my last game as the UK I had a a 5 to 1 numerical superiority in a sea zone with a massive fleet of BBs. The battle generator decided it would be funny to keep generating battles where one or two of my CLs faced the entire enemy fleet with capital ships. This happed six times in a row until my government surrendered my overwhelming fleet never once bothering to show up.

      You got a point, but a would say the 2 are very different games. If you like good graphics, want to design ships and are really interested in WW1 naval combat, then I would recommend ultimate admiral dreadnoughts. If you want a more strategy based game, want to design ships, don’t care about graphics, and want to manage a navy over a long period of time, then I would recommend rule the waves.

      @jonathanbelfire Před rokem +2

      The game is getting killed in Steam reviews. It looks interesting but I'm concerned about that. What's your experience with it and are there other comparable games you've played?

    • @TheRedKing247
      @TheRedKing247 Před rokem +3

      @@jonathanbelfire Honestly I wasn't even aware it was getting bad steam reviews. I've personally been having a very good time with it and it's been a recent favorite of mine with nearly 200 hours played total.
      The strange thing for me is most reviews are saying it's buggy when I haven't experienced a bug since early-access beta where they were just introducing the campaign and it wasn't fully ready yet, which makes sense to have bugs then. The only real criticism I have of the game is that honestly the campaign AI kinda sucks - but that makes sense as it's hard to make a good strategic AI that is tough to beat but not so hard as to be unwinnable against. That, and it does take a bit long when you start a new campaign but that's only because it's generating history and is only a one time thing.
      As for games to compare it to, it's a little hard because there's nothing directly comparable, and I'd rather not give false expectations of what it is. Really the core of the game is based around the ship designer which works kind of similar to games like Sprocket or Besieged - except for ships between 1890 to 1950 (excluding aircraft carriers) - and the battle mode, which is kind of like the modern Total War games naval battles except way more fleshed out with better controls and stuff like penetration mechanics and ship modules. That's why one of the most fun modes of the game is the Naval Academy where you're given a bunch of scenarios (Like 60 in total) and have to design ships around the challenges presented in the scenarios and lead them to victory in battle.
      On the other hand there's also the Campaign mode, which is again kind of like Total War where you have the campaign map and the tactical battles, where the campaign map is a somewhat simplified version of this game with much better graphics and better albeit simplified UI, where you get to design your fleet and send them into tactical battles during wartime. It's important to note here though that despite the similarity the campaign mode is not on the same level as grand strategy games like Total War or Paradox's games, as control is limited to only the navy of the country you're playing as you're the country's naval secretary essentially. It's thus more closer to Silent Hunter's campaign where it's more for facilitation of the design and battle aspects of the game - the core of the game - rather than intended to be a deep simulation of nations in the dreadnought period. Thus if you like games where you design stuff to fix problems, this is absolutely a game you'll enjoy, especially if you do also enjoy some strategy too as the campaign mode offers that on top. On the other hand you might be a bit more disappointed in the game if you're going into it solely for it's strategy elements.

    • @Iturnright
      @Iturnright Před rokem +6

      @@jonathanbelfire Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts looks cool, but there's really nothing to it. The ship designer is cool, maybe worth the cost of entry if you're really into it, but battles are awkward and the campaign is a mess. I've owned the game since before it was on Steam. The developers have been unable to implement an effective battle AI or campaign AI. RTW3 is the opposite. It looks like a spreadsheet, but the core gameplay is very well thought out.

    • @deeznoots6241
      @deeznoots6241 Před rokem +3

      Like RTW2 to RTW its generally just a timeline extension and refining the balance of ship designs.
      In RTW1 for example armour becomes obsolete by 1920 because firepower tech grows so much faster than armour tech that the armour can’t realistically keep up, something which RTW2 fixed.
      Gotta remember its a small game with a very niche audience so its priced with the small audience in mind. If you’re gonna pirate games at least pirate games from a massive company.

  • @CMDRFandragon

    UAD is DEFINITELY a dumb ass game.
    Players: Limited by weight and stuff.
    AI: They somehow bring 200,000 ton warships with 19 18x4 inch guns, 21 16 inch guns, 12 14 inch guns 30 9 inch guns, 48 8 inch guns, 8x torpedo tubes, 32 inch belt armor and the speed of a Concorde, complete with the accuracy of a Marine Corps Sniper.
    Meanwhile, my more traditional warship, roughly emulating an Iowa class, so 9x 16 inch guns and 16-20x 5 inch guns cant hit the broadside of a barn, cant take a hit but I cant make the ship any better......
    Yeah, UAD is dumb.
    I long for the day we get a game that looks and plays kinda like World of Warships, or like a Naval RTS, but it has good graphics and not ass gameplay.
