    For fasteners that have a critical torque value, I'd highly recommend using Loctite. I've seen impact torqued fasteners come loose from vibration because Loctite wasn't used. I'd also recommend an actual torque wrench because of bolt stretch over time.

    • @MultiEmoto
      @MultiEmoto Před 5 lety +5

      The concern with your approach is that unless the factory indicates to use thread-locking compound, putting it on the fastener affects the torque. The torque numbers are for a dry fastener; not one that is wet with loctite, so you are actually over-torqueing with loctite because it acts as a lubricant until it sets up. The other point is that the way to loosen loctite is by applying heat, so using it on brake calipers, which happen to generate a lot of heat, may not be terribly effective. I recommend using the factory torque spec on clean, dry bolts for brake calipers.

    • @benjamincanfield282
      @benjamincanfield282 Před 3 lety

      @@MultiEmoto The red loctite needs to be heated up to a temp of 500 degrees. I am not sure how hot the brakes are actually getting during use, but I imagine it is not hot enough. Had to use a torch to get the caliper bolts off (first time coming of). I have always used blue loctite which seems to work better and saves your knuckles getting the calipers off again.

    • @MultiEmoto
      @MultiEmoto Před 3 lety +1

      @@benjamincanfield282 You may well be correct about how hot calipers get; I have not measured one. Brake caliper bolts are probably not the most specification-sensitive threaded fasteners in existence, but I still like to install all safety-related things strictly by the book. If I had caliper bolts getting loose, it might mean any of several things, but I might first get new bolts and inspect the receiving threads carefully. YMMV.

    My pads are fairy worn out, so I went to my mechanic to get a quote in pads. They told me these brembo brakes systems should ONLY use brembo oem parts and the rotors should never be cut because of the amount of heat these generate, the pads would wear out even faster from the amount of metal you are removing from the rotors. They would have to be replaced.
    What are your thoughts/experience about this?

      @Lethalgarage I was changing the breaks on a 2019 Chevy silverado ltz rear breaks. The front breaks didn't need to be put into break mode, but as I was changing the break pad, I found out u gotta put the truck into break mode it decompressed the piston in the calibers. So when u use a c-clamp to push it back in it goes in well I didn't know if had to be in break mode so it blew the piston out of the caliber and I'm just worried for when I change the breaks on my camaro I don't have to put it into any mode to change the breaks/rotors on the rear

    Additional info you WILL need regarding front only. 2016 SS. It's a great video but what Lethal Garage does not show you clearly and explicitly is there are 4 smaller bolts on the back of the caliper. DO NOT take those out. I did take them out and then the caliper began leaking brake fluid. I am not referring to the "bleeder" screw. There are two rather large hex head bolts on the back that you do need to take out to get the caliper off. They are both the same size. On the head of the bolt they read "SFP 10.9". I used a 13/16ths socket and big ratchet to get them out. I had to put a break over bar on and use a 2 pound hammer on the break over bar to get the bolts loose. The slide pins that hold the pad clips are both the same size, there is no difference in top and bottom pins. If you have never done brake pads before then I do not recommend this job for for you as it is a few degree more difficult than most brake pad changes I have done on other vehicles. I did both the pads and rotors this time and it was a bitch. The rotors were rusted and seized to the hub big time. I had to hammer with that 2 pound sledge to bust the rotors loose and get them off. If you screw up the little screw that holds the rotor and cant get it out then just drill it out. If you're the type that doesn't like a pain in the ass then I recommend that you don't do it. If you don't mind a real PITA and dropping a few dozen F-Bombs then go ahead.

    I don't understand why people do car work in flip flops. Gonna lose a toe at some point. Breaking lose bolts with a torque wrench is also a bad idea. Indexing the suspension bolts is also a bad idea. They stretch. Use that torque wrench and some blue loctite on suspension bolts. You don't want them coming out.
