I brain farted and said the Pocket is $120 in the video... it's $220! GAH. Stupid brain. Sorry about that. 😡
You’re human! We appreciate the video that’s all that matters, keep doing you man 😎✊
Do you know how much the shipping is? Usually they are pretty steep there as well….
Love your videos metal Jesus rocks good videos keep up the good work 👍
120 would be jaw droppingly cheap for something this well put together. But 220 is not bad either.

Original game boy is still my favorite system of all time. Something about handheld games at the time was so amazing. With the light and magnifying glass accessories in the back of the minivan on the way home from the mall just trying to get a level code or save spot before your batteries die and your screen slowly fades and slowly turning up the contrast to get just a few more minutes. Luckily I had the rechargeable AAs on hand. Thanks Mom & Dad.
Great days I remember fondly.
Wich gametos is the motor cycle game
Can you tell us all the game You use in these video
Same but assholes wanna sell nostalgia for 10 times the price and I cannot accept paying for grossly outdated tech.
Wow that screen looks great! I love it when you do these types of videos.
Awesome overview, M.J.!!! I own a MegaSG myself and I love it: great products indeed.
I'm getting me preorder (hopefully) tomorrow morning. There are so many Game Gear games I'd like to (finally) see at high resolution! Thanks for the fantastic review, good sir!
Can you please list the games shown in the description with their time offsets? There’s a few I’ve not seen before and would like to try. Thanks!
Love your videos. Especially vinyl pick ups and collections. Discovered many great bands
Awesome! Thank you!
Great review, I should have mine tomorrow after ordering it a year and half ago, im excited. I hope the other 3 adapters become available soon as I have more of those games than game gear.
Do games with vibration (e.g. Drill Dozer) maintain a stable connection with the port through vibration? Other reviewers have commented if you bump the cartridge it can freeze the game due to interrupting the connection. I'm curious if this happens on its own with vibration.
That looks cool. Thanks for sharing this. Now i can collect a few gb games if i buy this.
You are the first person I've seen mention the IR blaster that was added but never advertised, I did a double take when you said it was built-in... I'm so stoked they added that back in and can't wait to get mine!
I don't have any modded devices so this looks amazing to me! Thank you for reviewing this!
Looks amazing, it seems the dock is a must have, which bumps the price to $320. Add in Analogue’s infamous shipping rates, this gets pricey. It’s a shame Nintendo can’t just offer GB games to its Switch Online service, boggles my mind.
Eventually it will i bet to compete with this system
It still would be an Emulation with lags and latency.
Analogue Pocket Is not Emulation, it has real hardware that natively runs the GBA, GBC etc. Games.
@@MTheConqueror Ive been playing GBA games on my phone for about 9 years and 95% run great. Nintendo should definitely be able to figure it out
@@TehThespian if you play games on your phone you're not the right person to talk about retro games my friend. Only becouse it runs at full fps doesn't mean it runs great there is way more to it.
@@MTheConqueror well duh, its emulation it cant be 1:1. But the market has already shown to be perfectly amenable to it because of its convenience which is why Nintendo ignoring it is so weird
Good review. I am kind of on the fence due to the price, but it does support multiple systems which is cool. It would be nice to compare it to the modern IPS screen upgrades that are available for GB, GBC and GBA [original hardware].
I think the major issue is the other systems it supports cost less than the attachments. This things a huge cash grab.
@@syreplays5079 Well the screen it is using is a very expensive lcd. Cutting edge. They also created all the filters and scaling techniques for it. The thing is seriously impressive in its ability to recreate the original experience but idealized.
Thanks for the side-by-sides. This looks like a winner!
Does it have build in stereo speakers for games that have option to change from mono to stereo when using headphones originally or just a single speaker?
I like that it got two extra face buttons so we could also assign L & R shortcuts to it on games that need them without having to reach for the shoulder buttons every time.
I agree that the company makes solid retro console clones and I would love to pick one up or ANY of their systems, however, my pride gets in the way and I have a hard time backing a company that does not respond to fan questions or give feedback on comments. They are a one-way communication company and I hate that.
Communication is definitely one of their biggest shortcomings. Across the board. You know, they never notified their customers this was coming available for pre-order again? Even if you’re signed up for their email newsletter and signed up for a “back in stock” notification.
Amazing review. I would love to pick up one of these I have a decent sized handheld gaming collection I haven't been able to play for years.
It’s been 2 years and 1 preorder window later and it’s finally up to preorder again! Fingers crossed I get one for the Q1 2022 window, I don’t want to wait any longer!!
Love the screen size! $220 is a bit too pricey for me though
Anbernic?
The RG351V is closest to this in size & format.
I got a GBA sp and some games came with it on kijiji for $160 . Score!
Same, its too expensive.
I bought a modded psp for only $150. Had all games on there from Nintendo all the way to ps1. Works flawless and all games look and sound great
@@Rawlingm Same. I have a modded PSP with all the fixins. Due to an issue with it not working on battery alone, I hardly ever use it.
9:35 @MetalJesusRocks The reason why the Analogue Pocket has large bezels isn't really to do with the screen, but more to do with the fact that the stereo speakers are right next to the screen inside the system, there needs to be space for those. From what I've seen in tear downs, the speakers are very similar to whats found in the Nintendo Switch and the new Game&Watch systems where the speaker it actually laid flat, and the plastic around it has been molded in such a way to channel the sound 90 degrees from the speaker.
Very interesting
Do you happen to know if it will work with the gamecube link cable for Four Swords? I see it doesnt have the clip ports, but my third party cable doesn't have the clips. I need to pick u p two more GBAs anyway, maybe I get this instead of one
does anyone can help me i want something exactly like this but that play's roms what is my best option for quality like this ?
Late to the party on this one, but I must say this is a very nice handheld as I've noticed that, while you can find games very easily, at least over here finding used original base units in good condition can be a bit of a hassle at times for certain systems, having this readily available albeit at a higher price is really awesome!
They should have used the gameboy advance form factor. Though it wouldn't look as slick, it could have been more comfortable with a bigger screen
If you haven’t looked into it, the gba has an awesome and really approachable modding scene.
You can buy IPS screens, rechargeable batteries, custom Shells. It’s really cool and pretty easy to install!
Waiting for my to arrive tomorrow I can't wait to try it out
Reviews are all over CZcams. Now I want one 😄😄😄
This looks to be exactly what I want, looks impressive.
Been waiting for this one for awhile. Very excited.
pls tell Ralph that he's 5'1 and going to jail soon.

Can't wait to get mine.
Did you get your preorder tier notification yet?
Great review. Still holding out for my Steam Deck when it comes. But another great video. Love this show :-)
This definitely looks awesome and is by far my most wanted clone system! Considering I already have all these original systems I don't have much care about clones, BUT I love handheld gaming on the go and this thing would be perfect for playing any and all of those I wish, all in one! Thank you MJ for such thorough high quality reviews!
Analogue should win a Nobel prize for their work. I'm kidding but I'm also kinda serious. They're walking the line between fake hardware but non-emulation. A bit revolutionary if you think about it.
Good review, thank you!
Getting up early to pre-order mine. Can't wait!
The game sack review of this video dropped at the same time and I think took a shot at your review as well lol
I've never been big into handhelds other than GBC & PSP however, this is a fantastic product.
Seriously considering picking one up.
You gotta get a PS Vita and mod it!
I doubt you can get one now. I've been waiting for mine since August of 2019 and they're finally rolling them out this month.
@@TheMartz109 You can order one, it just won't be delivered for a while.
At this point, the soonest you’d be able to get one is 2023, if you order now.
Too late now if you weren't an early adopter. What they havent already shipped to clown ass youtubers (who are mostly responsible for current retro prices)+, have already sold out.
Analogue is worse than Sony. Pathetic supply and manufacturing chain.
This looks amazing. I'm going to personally wait since they have made physical improvements with their past consoles over time. I'm hoping they release these in different colors others than black and white. Also, I hope they release their own GameCube link cables since I would rather not remove the locking mechanism on my official Nintendo cables.
Aside from the Nt Mini cart slot, what physical changes have they made to any of their consoles?
You were right but I missed the glow in the dark version :(
@@knarftretsom You are in luck. Analogue is opening preorders this Friday for a transparent limited edition series in various colors!
Awesome video dude thanks for the honest feedback! I wish I was a game boy fan this thing looks amazing!
This looks really cool. I think i am going to have to get this.
That first preorder run was really rough. As bad as limited run games, maybe worse. Here's hoping tomorrow's drop will be less painful. I really wanted one.
What was wrong with the preorder run? Looks amazing in MJR’s video.
I believe he is referring to the fact it was up for approximately 5 minutes and with them being based in Hong Kong, your credit card company will usually verify the purchase. Most of us had the items in our cart be removed during checkout
There's a fulfillment group now. Which means you'll eventually receive your order... But you'll probably be in the LAST group, late 2022 or early 2023...
Sucks, let's be honest here.
@@SmurffNationn nothing wrong with the run, I meant I couldn't actually order one on the website during the last time it was open to preorder. Small window of opportunity, like buying a PS5 (I got one of those but not this)
@ Patrick McCabe, Yep. I lost my first preorder round because my bank rejected the transaction. By the time I could authorize it, it was too late. That has happened to me every single time I’ve purchased (or tried) from them, until this round, but only because Chase changed their processing procedures.
My first Analogue product was the Analogue CMVS Slim, a consolized NeoGeo MVS finished & housed in select hardwoods. The pocket is an amazing piece of hardware & shows Analogue has really come a long long way since those early days.
I’ve tried for years to get that Neo Geo. Whenever I saw someone selling it it went for a godly sum. I’ve picked up everything they released since.
@@FernandoMaldonado Yeah they’re definitely difficult to track down and can get pricey. I purchased 2 in ash wood black finish with matching controller directly from Analogue back in the day.
Metal Jesus you Rock great video review thinking of getting this.
Really excited for mine to arrive in the next few weeks. Glad to see positive reviews so far.
How do you know you’re getting it in a few weeks?
@@SumDumGy cause of the shipping email. Lol. Was actually delivered on Friday and I’ve been playing a few games. Metroid Zero Mission and Pokémon Fire Red. It looks amazing. The screen resolution makes them look really clean. Haven’t setup the dock yet but everything was shipped like their consoles in nice boxes. They did a great job. It was worth the year and a half wait.
@@v6sonoma Why was that funny? I asked because your timeframe of “the next few weeks” didn’t mesh with any of their publicized fulfillment schedules.
@@SumDumGy Sorry. Sometimes text on the internet doesn’t come across as intended. The shipping email they sent just had an estimated “delivery by” and not a specific date of arrival. It ended up coming about a 5 days from the notice.
@@v6sonoma No worries.
Analogre’s Hong Kong banking caused me to miss out on the first round because my bank rejected the transaction. I got in on the most recent round and their website said we were supposed to be notified within a few days as to which of the three delivery tiers our orders landed in. We haven’t been. When you said a few weeks, it sounded like maybe you had heard something, somehow, because that’s about maybe when the first tier will be shipping.
The Game Gear audio is still my favorite. I love that specific original GG sound for some reason (probably youth-sentiment 😀) Great video!
The picture and sound quality is amazing. It really shows how good the pixel art is for these games, something that the original hardware couldn't do, even with modded screens. I'd get one if the sd card is had supported ROMs but I'm guessing analogue doesn't want to put themselves in murky water by emulation. At least they support everdrives.
The sound was very disappointing to me here.
@@SumDumGy same here...it lacks its original "personality".
I just ordered an IPS V2 screen modification for my Game Boy Advance SP and I’m looking forward to seing how nice it looks!
Does the analogue play gba games with the same screen size as a SP? If so then that’s disappointing
@@savagemathorror4671 check out boxypixel's unhinged aluminum cases for the gba sp. It pretty much mocks an analogue pocket look but is real hardware. would save you some money compared to buying an analogue pocket as well.
Metal Jesus what games show up at 8:36 and 11:00? I'm a sucker for old school racers and would love to check those out
is that IR thing on the bottom the same thing as the thing on the top left of the GBC?
It will play roms eventually. Every console they've put out has had a jailbreak the week after they're released
For GB, GBC and GBA I would absolutely think so. Anything else, most likely not happening.
Their deal with this thing is to sell the add-ons to play other systems. Hard to do if people are playing all roms from the SD-card.
Thanks for the review, I learned a whole lot! $220 is a hard pill to swallow, especially when I still have my GB, GBC, and GBA SP.
So do I, and I didn’t hesitate for a moment. It’s time to retire the old, inadequate hardware and add that console dock feature!
The only major issue is the cartridge mounting. The game cartridges like to fall out of this bad boy at the slightest graze of your finger.
@@SumDumGy honestly at that point you can just buy a jailbroke switch and get more for your money with it
@@syreplays5079 When folks like you say things like this, the only thing you accomplish is making yourselves look silly.
So, I’ll ask you: How will digging my Switch out of the closet (that I haven’t touched in a year), and jail breaking it do a single thing to help me play my GameBoy games both in my lap and on my TV?
@@SumDumGy retroarch cores for gb, gba, and gbc all run at 100% on the switch. Stop being stubborn.
Definitely want to hear more about the Nanoloop!
Very informative video! Seems like a really cool little device.
Really excellent review I loved how you kept going back to the original hardware for comparison as well as taking your time to really familiarize yourself with the pocket before you started diving into the review. If I only had one review that I could watch on the pocket it would be this one.
Glad you enjoyed it! I did capture all of this footage myself... and it was pretty fun doing so! So many games played this past couple of weeks.
This isn't for me...but I love that this exists for those it's meant for!
I'm not trying to take way from anything nostalgia related, (I mean it's the reason I choose to play games that are available on the Xbox 360 on the OG Xbox,) but why isn't it for you? I'm genuinely curious.
@@oceano901 Mainly the price and the fact I'd rather have a nice device that can play roms. This is a VERY cool device for those it's meant for though.
Rock n Roll !! Just preorderd today.
That original screen mode with the pixel grid looks so amazing 🤯
I was excited about this for a long time, but got tired of waiting and bought an Anbernic RG351V instead. I’ll always prefer to play my own carts, but honestly I have had literally zero issues with the Anbernic and it’s emulation, and it is a high quality device as well.
I think the rg351v is better than the pocket . The ability to play tons of systems and modded games , on top of having a joystick makes it the winner in my book
💯 Exactly! People overpay such a higher premium for nostalgia. The Anbernic line of products is amazing for handheld emulation, and runs just as well, if not better, than these clone products.
Pocket your paying for fpga and it’s ability to replicate the original handheld. But if you are fine with emulation, it doesn’t matter. I really want the Pocket, but I ain’t waiting to 2023….
I was about to comment this, for the price and anbernic is way better, I love mine
Yeah, I picked up the RG351M. I love how it feels so high quality and how many different systems run on it. Honestly, in its price range it is near impossible to beat.
This is next level, top tier stuff. Gameboy games never looked as good👍
Ya bro!!! You called I am like at the WOWWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW, help me with a go fundme for this… please! I’m in a wheel chair permanently after a freak lucky punch by a school yard bully… damn that punch sucked.. hey LET ME KNOW if you can help please!! ( bully did his time and is out now, kinda sucks I wanted him to get the capital punishment but they said they couldn’t do that)
They literally, objectively look better when emulated. You can upscale the resolution, up the framerate, etc. in addition of other quality of life improvements.
Damn preorders up tomorrow 8am? And you already have one! Can’t wait for it to be sold out
Would someone kindly tell me what games were shown at both 1:58 and 3:42? Thank you in advance
Had one in my cart and was ready to submit the order within the first minute of pre-orders, but decided against it. After you add shipping and tax, it's almost an additional $50. Crazy. I still have all my vintage hardware, including an array of GB Color, Light, Advance, SP, Micro systems, so I can live without spending an extra $270 (without any accessories) on this. Worst time of the year to do pre-orders, too.
Sadly, if you change your mind later on, I think it’ll end up costing even more.
I was late to the party. So I'm hoping to snag one tomorrow. But I have to say the analogue brand hasn't steered me wrong with the genesis & snes consoles they put out.
Slight tip, when I bought it you couldn't pre-enter your card details by making an account. Unless they changed that you either have to have some auto-fill to enter it, manually enter it (I do not recommend this because you're counting potential seconds before sell out), or do a loophole of adding something else to the cart, entering the details, clicking save for later, and then backing out of buying the unwanted thing last minute.
Be sure to look ahead of time and know exactly what color/accessories you want.
@@gamerguy425 I appreciate the info! I know how quickly their stuff can sell. I've been shopping their site today prepping for tomorrow lol.
@@gamerguy425 that's too sloppy. If I have to go thru all that I rather not buy, fuck em
You snag one?
@@arturo7926 yes I did.
a few questions,,, how does it handle the neogeo pocket games? also if you plug in the game gear adaptor can you plug in the game gears master system adaptor and then play the games?
Hello, do you need the cartridges to play or does it come with games downloaded?
If I had already collection of physical carts, then this would be pretty cool, but expensive option.
I think all eyes are waiting on the jailbreak firmware. Imagine if this could play nes, snes, genesis, tg16 and more roms from the sd card
well they do work with everdrive...
@@scottlinux They're already violating copyright law before any games are added, might as well let end-users do the same.
@@scottlinux The jailbreak firmware has been released, further cementing the fact this is, indeed, emulation.
Great overview, looks like a great piece of hardware, long live retro gaming!
Preordered mine the moment it hit yesterday at 8:00am PST. Won’t be delivered until sometime in 2022 but, it will be worth it.
Going to preorder one tomorrow!
I haven't ever had a GBA and I don't have my GameGear any more, which was my first ever game console back in 1992. But I do still own my GameGear cartridges and some GBC cartridges.
So I purchased this device, turned out at 255EUR for me - but yeah I still think it's a better deal than searching for a GG in great condition and a GBA (with good backlit mod).. But maybe I'm just justifying myself for buying expensive stuff.. :D
You don't need a backlit mod for a GBA, you can just buy a backlit SP, and the gamegear can be had for under 100. Your entire investment into this couldve been around 180 EUR instead of 255, and you can add an HDMI mod to both the gamegear and SP for under 70 dollars, bringing your grand total with tv out to around 250, instead of 350. I hope you enjoy though :)
For those wondering, Analogue is opening up orders again for the Pocket starting tomorrow (12/14)! I should be receiving mine from the original preorder this month and I'm excited to start using it!
Ssssshhhhhh! Lol
Damnit, don’t tell them!
Yeah. I want one. I have a large physical Game Boy cartridge library and this device looks really great
Can it work with gamecube for games like zelda four swords, or how about the gamegear master system adaptor
This would be nice to have on my shelf. That's it. My vita outclasses this big time.
My unhinged gba sp destroy this thing when it comes to play gba games. The cool thing of this is the dock and the overall versatility. Otherwise its an extremely overpriced handheld
This might be unpopular opinion, but for me GBA SP AGS-101 is more than enough to play Game Boy games. I do realise that modern screens are better, but I never felt that the screen on that device needed improvements. Unlike every previous Game Boy model, which were seriously lacking in the screen department.
I pretty much agree with you and yet my wallet is telling me i need to buy this
@@mortotem7876 same man. I hate that
I agree with you too but the AGS-101 seems to cost around the same price as this nowadays
Fast games have insane amounts of blur though. Good enough for most games, but mario kinda looks like I'm playing through a milkshake. I'm excited for my Pocket to arrive, but I agree it is unnecessary.
I agree. Let's see if the PC Engine/ Turbografx HuCard adapter or the access to the second FPGA to port other cores to it makes it worth it.
what is the shmup at 13:40?
Does it put your game save on the SD card for a back up
Shouldn’t this video be marked as containing a paid promotion?
Who really cares if he’s payed or not
Looks like a solid unit. I'm glad these are getting made so more people can enjoy retro games.
11:22, what game is this? I remember playin something similar on the SNES.
I've only actually watched one review of this system so far but I've scrolled past at least six different people I'm subscribed to posting a video on this.
It should be noted the Dock has been confirmed to be getting a software update in 2022 to bring in the features it offers in handheld mode. It's basically a beta software right now.
I wish they’d update the controller port and put it in the front of the dock!
It's analog analog *Shits pants*
You've sold me, thanks for the great video MetalJesus!
Oh my God! It's so beautiful❤. After I was done watching your video. I went straight to their website.
If they can do a virtual boy adapter or a clone handheld system to play those carts, my life would be complete
I really wished Analogue would have allowed previous customers an early opportunity to preorder. It’s too difficult to compete with bots and frustrating seeing them immediately appear on eBay
This day and age of buying hardware sucks so bad. Like trying to buy a PS5 still after over a year of it being out...what really sucks it'll probably be this way with any major hardware release for the foreseeable future. I miss the days you could go in a store and get what you want :(
@@Nathan-is7li Companies that have the money and volumes to pay for fab time and manage supply chain well don't have as big an issue. So large guys like Apple still hit most targets. Console makers not so lucky. Bespoke console makers surprised they can get any factory time at all.
@ EspressoMilk Apple is doing almost as badly as Sony right now.
@@SumDumGy they’re planning to ship 300 million iPhones in 2022 each of which costs as much or more than any PlayStation. They’ll also ship some 20-30 million Macs plus watches and iPads. Let me know when Sony ships 10 million of any console in one year.
@@espressomatic Let me know when you have something irrelevant to contribute and compare to. Apple is one of the largest corporations on the planet. They fail to communicate. We should have been told already about our tier. They never even announced the new preorder run to us in the first place (had to learn from CZcams, as usual). If they’d get their heads out of their asses, limit preorder products to one per customer and stop banking in Hong Kong where domestic banks reject our transactions, they’d end up getting their goods into the hands of more customer/enthusiasts, instead of scalpers.
If I had more physical GB games, I would be interested in the pocket. I do have the adapter for the gamecube, so I'll just stick with that 🤙
Soon you would be able to play emulation games on this
It looks really cool, but with all the ips mods availlable for all gameboy systems we have now I don’t really think it’s worth it, looks like a premium unhinged gba sp
You forgot about TG-16 games. This is a big deal.
I would disagree with you if the shipping wasn't so expensive; not to mention the wait to get one's hands on a pocket will be at least another year, unless you preorder in the first 15 seconds. So much hassle for just another way to play - I agree!
@@lukaskidd4621 This wave of pre-orders was delayed three times I think and that's not including the delay *before* the pre-orders went live. It went from shipping Q3 2020 to just barely making it by this christmas.

Dont get me wrong I really think this device looks great but even if I buy one Im pretty sure Im gonna stick with a regular gb pocket color or gba with ips screen mods, because im looking for that old classic feeling, all the features on this device are great IF that’s what you are looking for. I personnally never gonna play gb games on my tv and don’t like save states and Im not a big fan of the cartridges not completly insert on the back, wulff den shows that on his review video and already have scratches on the back of the unit, for such a premium device that shouldn’t happend so quick. Is it possible for the Analog Pocket to connect to the GameCube connection cable used for games like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Zelda 4 Swords? Would love to know!
MyLifeInGaming tested this. The only way to connect the oem gameboy to gamcube link cable is to unscrew the plastic housing around the connecter since the clips prevent it from being inserted. So technically yes it will work, and it is possible to do its just obviously not ideal. Seems like a huge oversight. I'd imagine if enough people complain analogue will consider producing their own aftermarket link cables without the clips.
