This was my second flight with Cathay Pacific - the first being in First Class a few months back. I was so happy that I was flying the Airbus A350-1000 compared with the Boeing 777 as the seats are wider and the cabin is set up in a 3-3-3 formation! I am so impressed with Cathay for many reasons, which I will come to in a moment!
I had a pleasant and straightforward check in experience at London Heathrow (LHR). During Check In, a gentleman called Mohammad recognised me and remembered me from the previous flight and said hello. He was friendly and personally escorted me to the No.1 Lounge (which I accessed through Priority Pass).
Cathay, like Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Qatar Airways and other leading airlines allows you to pre-book Special Assistance online via Manage My Booking. This is so helpful! There are some airlines like Thai Airways, EVA Air and others which require you to call their offices during office hours to book this service. My last EVA flight was purchased last minute on a Friday evening and travelling on Sunday, so was impossible to speak to their offices. So being able to book this online is excellent!
Secondly, you can pre-plan your Entertainment on-board before you fly! Visit the CZcams review where there is a link in the description of the video. I was flying on 31st December 2023 and arriving in Hong Kong on 1st January 2024, where I would also catch a connecting flight. So, the website shows the full entertainment library being sown for both December and January. It is so simply laid out with headings like New Releases, Disney+, Comedy and so on. Cathay has also teamed up with Disney+ and offers a whole new world of entertainment!
The cabin crew showed me to my seat and boy I was already impressed!
The seat is 18.2” wide! This is nearly as wide as British Airways Premium Economy! The pitch was 32” The IFE (Inflight Entertainment) screen was an impressive 11.1” HD Touchscreen with tint! This means, I could not really see what my neighbours were watching - it almost looks like the screens are off! So, if you are one to sleep on a long flight and don’t want the brightness from the IFEs to bother you, then this is your aircraft!
Cathay also introduced a useful device holder with an additional cup holder. This was so handy as I could charge my devices while eating and have 2 drinks cups!
What is more impressive, Cathay has had some serious financial difficulty since 2017-18, followed by the COVID 19 pandemic and Hong Kong riots. Despite this, they are investing heavily on improving the overall customer experience.
Another example of this is, they were serving Courvoisier VSOP which is something you would usually find in a Business Class for many airlines! They were also serving Chivas Regal Scotch instead of the standard Johnny Walker Red Label! It is nice to see that they are not making horrible cost-cutting despite their situation.
The food and service was excellent! I do not normally fly economy on such long haul flights but I would happily do this flight again.

Since we both love lounges, if you ever have a chance to fly out of HKG with Cathay, maybe book a biz class or ticket as the Cathay lounges are spectacular!
Thank you actually I flew first class a few months ago but the flight was delayed and that meant I didn’t get any time in the lounges. So you are right I think I need to have my flight starting from Hong Kong so that I can come early and enjoy the lounges. I’ve done a lot of research on the lounges at Hong Kong, and many people regard Hong Kong airport lounges to be the best in the world! Another very good trip report, Mihir. I did Jakarta - LHR on Cathay in business in Dec 2022 but I wasn't too impressed overall, especially with the food. I also enjoyed your Qsuites video and got to experience it for myself a couple of week ago on a Heathrow - Jakarta via Doha. Without a doubt, the best biz class I've ever experienced. It was more like how I imagine first class to be. And Qatar lounge at Heathrow T4 was the nicest lounge I've ever been in. Only negative point was boarding at Heathrow and transfer and boarding at Doha which was very disorganised. Look forward to your next videos. Cheers.

Cathay have certainly upped their game. I flew EVA economy to BKK earlier this year and they've gone downhill somewhat, and this A350 Cathay product is far better than the EVA offering, which was a tired old 777 in a 3-4-3 config.
The food looks very good, decent portions and the fact they offer snacks during the flight as well is a nice touch, along with the complimentary bottle of water. IFE seems to be varied as well which again, points to a better product all round.

Never enough room for my legs, 6'4" here. I always pay extra for the exit row. Cathay Pacific has the best price tickets for Boston to Philippines I used to fly Emirates but they had ridiculous layover times, 7 hours in Dubai. Cathay, 2 hours in Hong Kong. Economy is economy no matter what airline so I am happy with Cathay Pacific.
@@Tomh821 true, but I think the consistency of the crew on Cathay Pacific is better than Emirates. The last couple of flights on the Emirates in economy were dreadful.. I was so impressed with Cathay Pacific, but then again this is an Asian airline 😀 they are fantastic and despite being in financial difficulty, they are investing so much in the whole product which is impressive, as they are really focusing on..
i have been flying Cathay to HK return as well as HK to Singapore.. I have to say I do enjoy the flight service on both legs. Though i do prefer the A350 flight between HK to SG

For being 99% blind you did not seem to have any difficulty putting your suitcase on the check in belt as one might have suspected with someone being 99% blind?
@@rock-hh3tk Thank you. Most people actually think I can see about 30% after meeting me. I usually don’t carry my cane as I am conscious that everyone will know that I cannot see.. my own insecurity. I also travel quite a lot and so I’m used to doing many things independently as much as I can.. if I could manage to navigate the airport without Special Assistance,, I would 😊 I hope you enjoyed the video and thank you for your comment. There is some truth to this, there was a study done at which ladies get noticed more based on what colour dress they wore, and RED was the highest!

Hi I am so sorry, but I’m not too sure as I order a special meal and it’s not included in my special meal. I am 99% blind so cannot see what’s on my neighbours tree unfortunately. I’m so sorry I couldn’t be more helpful on this occasion.. 😀
