Good
Hi Josh :)
Cathay Pacific is highly rated and one of the most respected airline.
go on cebu
Better than Europe
Flew on the Cathay A350-1000 from HKG to NRT some years back and I had pretty much the same experience as you. Beautiful aircraft, great crew and service, good food: I would say it doesn't get much better in economy class. Well done Cathay!
It’s crap now ….
dude, it sucks, crap, like💩 now, they sometimes skip my Meal either
Thank you so much Josh.
As a cabin crew of CX, the company reduce our manpower for every flight and our benefit, but we still try our best to provide the service to all passenger, hope to see you again and understand our situation.
Come on stop the BS, best service my ass
The Cathay crew being over paid it caused the overhead and over price ticket.
@@PaulFanMingReally? Compare what the CX crew get paid compared to the Europe, US and AUS crews…it’s peanuts….
@@PaulFanMingHow are they overpaid? They get base paid 1.2k usd when they newly join and ONLY 1.5k usd after 10years. Do u know how expensive it is to live in Hong Kong? Just because u overpaid the ticket doesn't mean it will go to the front line staffs.
Indeed, not overpaid. Crumbs from the emperor syndrome @@valorant846
I flew from Amsterdam to Bangkok via HK. The flights and services were amazing. Even when we missed our transfer connection in HK (due to delay in Amsterdam) they transferred us to the next flight to Bangkok. Very good service and helpful staff / crew. 🇭🇰
That's really what Cathay is really really good for, it is their service recovery. There are many airlines that offer good onboard services, but not a lot of airline does well when things goes wrong, in fact most do very poorly when things goes wrong, like lost baggage or missed connection or inflight diversion. But Cathay are very good at handling these non-normal cases. I think that's really what sets them apart to many other carriers.
I’ve booked through Cathay from Manchester to Sydney and there is a connecting flight through Hong Kong. Will they take my bag through to the next flight? Thankyou
I recently went to the flight and it was amazing! Comfort, an actual interesting safety video( for me ), and a lot of movies and good food!
@@wowpeter spot on and that's what they were able to do to my mum on her JFK-HKG-PER flight was putting her on the next flight from JFK to PER via HKG in November 2022. Customer support wise I see it as CX > PR. They need their EWR-HKG flight back so that they can compete with EWR-MNL via SIN on SQ which can have a deal of $1100-1200 which should beat the JFK-MNL deal on PR. CX 845 from JFK EWR pre covid 899 does have a 2hr transfer time to the first HKG-MNL flight CX907
Its because there are many flights a day from hongkong to bangkok, and there is surplus seats to put delayed transfer passengers.
If there are no flights that day , there is nothing Cathay can do.
Sad or happy to say , i am.happy to fly Qantas, British Airways , they pilots are a different kettle of fish and I can be sure they have nerves of steel and never wil they compromise passenger safety.
Used to fly Cathay a lot & they were excellent. Great to see things improving for them & glad to see they are still delivering excellent service.
Cathay Pacific has been and will be the number one airline in the world. Don't compare it to those trash US airlines.
They usually aren’t anymore though…ask their frequent flyers which included myself and most would say they suck now
I personally think they're great
A350-1000 has quite a few operators! Virgin, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Etihad, Qatar, French Bee, Air Caraibes and JAL with Qantas to join the list soon.
lufthansa has orders in for it too!
Phillipine airlines (PAL) have plans to order -1000 too so the list gets bigger
@@userowski. maybe cebu pacific aswell
@@userowski. Yeah! I saw about the PAL plans, so hopefully we see some official confirmation come through soon. The 350-1000 is bound to become ever more popular.
Starlux have 8 on order too
Good review of cx. After the pandemic, their service actually drops with the ticket price rising. And now it's difficult to find a reasonable price for flights between hk and north america. I hope CX will recover and bring their good service back as they were in 2018
Because HK-north America market recover much faster than the HK-North American flight capacity
CX cap now like 50% pre Pandemic
Only AC YVR and UA SFO returned
AC YYZ UA ORD EWR SQ SFO not return yet
Written like a true airline ticketing agent!!! Couldn't help but laugh!!!
@@chungchoso6490 Also Siberia airspace. Cathay is the only carrier that flies direct from Hong Kong to the East Coast, with United only joining in October with direct to NJ (but no one wants to go to Jersey).
Back in 2018, the "soft" product (food etc) was seriously bad. Flew Cathay recently and they seem to be trying harder, which is nice to see.
My family and I always take Cathay Pacific whenever possible for a good reason. I do hope they make a strong comeback because my flight with them back to Singapore from New York was absolutely amazing.
They offer one of the best services if you speak English (or are white). Otherwise, they are really bad, especially if you speak Mandarin and fly to or from Hon Kong. Their Hong Kong flight attendants treat the mainlanders as hell.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. A well deserved thank you! ☺️
Still proud of my home airline no matter what happens. Thanks for reviewing CX Josh.
Hello from Hongkong! Nice review indeed. Tried quite a few times flying through the exact same route with CX and SQ before 2019. Honestly, the hospitality received from SQ is way better than CX and food quality as well (though food on CX is not bad). But if their price is neck-to-neck, SQ is definitely the one to go for. The lack of passion of the crew from CX probably due to the notoriously low paid and unstable salary compared to other jobs in Hongkong and the poor management decision on hedging its fuel oil contract back in 2016.
a lot of these issues are all out of Cathay Pacific's control but never the less I'm glad they're still around providing good service for travelers.
Cathy was the best but since 2020 Oct , redundancy made it worst.....I was a part of CX for 3 decades...it hurts CX in such a position..wish cX will be again world best airline ❤
I agree, crew is worse now and the food tastes like 💩
Cathay Pacific is still incredibly better than US flag carriers.
@@hommagat2587yes… they even skipped my meal
@@hommagat2587i think the crew should serve Skibidi Toilets if they skip my meal again
Cathay Pacific will always be a sentimental favourite of mine - I remember many great journeys from London to HK with them back in the 90's. I recently flew with them on the Shanghai to HK leg of my flight from Manchester and I was very pleased with the level of service and quality of the hard product in Economy class. They were miles better than Lufthansa, with whom I flew from Munich to Shanghai on that same trip.
The lounge experience definitely makes a difference....glad that it met / exceeded your expectations
This is a highly competitive route with CX and SQ playing games together. From personal view CX really paid attention to in-flight meals and hardware after the pandemic. SQ service is much more unforgettable while food is underperformed. Stay safe and happy flights:-P
Literally joined Cathay Pacific and started my cabin crew training last week ❤ Amazing video Josh ❤
congrats!
@@user-dy9ri2xe7r Thank you
Thanks for another great review Josh, looking forward to your other videos that you mentioned.
First time I ever flew on a 747 was in 1988 from London Gatwick to Kai Tak with Cathay. An amazing experience!
I guess you are white? This airline is definitely the most racist airline, they discriminate against everyone except whites and Hongkongers, including blacks, Indians, Chinese, Taiwanese, Filipinos, Malaysians and Koreans
I used Cathay Pacific for the first time back in 2016 and was mighty impressed. We used Cathay Pacific to travel from UK to HK then HK to Japan. I chose Cathay Pacific due to glowing reviews. I said no to using China Airline to get to Japan. Cathay Pacific was the only cheapest option and the best airline.
When we boarded the plane and flew, my brother was impressed and loved their service. It was a pleasant yet long flight.
Hope the Airline will recover but doubtful.
I flew Cathay Pacific from South Africa to Hong Kong in 2017. It was such a good experience on a 16 hour flight in economy. The food and service was so good even though I was sick on my way back to South Africa. 😂
Glad to see that Cathay is still doing a good job. Hope to travel with Cathay again soon.
Thanks for the reassuringly positive overview, Josh. We are flying return SYD-LHR on Cathay in July/August. Got a great deal in PE, and glad to hear that your Econ experience was sound. 👍
I flew Cathay Pacific from HK to Seoul in 1997. The flight must have been overbooked in economy. I was upgraded to business class. What a flight and what a service. Food and inflight service were great!
Thanks for flying Cathay Pacific and visiting HK! Hope you will visit again in the future and maybe check out the other classes on cathay as well (if you have the chance)!
Great review! Thanks.
I remember when Cathay Pacific was at its peak. I flew international first on an around the world journey. This was in the early 2000s. The product on their 747 was over the top. Service was the best I've ever experienced. I hope they can return to their glory days.
That was a super smooth landing 👏
amazing vid Josh! Always look forward to you, Noel and Jeb.
Very happy to see them do so well, I’ve always had a soft spot for them. The hard product looks amazing and very premium, comparable to some airlines economy plus product and it is definitely an economy class I would book stress free 😅 Thank you for the great review Josh 🙏🏼
They aren’t anymore though. I fly them a lot and Josh was lucky.
Glad see Cathay doing strong, hope to see them expand again.
What I love about CX is its effeciency from every perspective, their SOP is probably in their own league, everything is just pefectly spot on, somehow mediocre. Still love to fly with CX esp on business travel.
I travelled with SQ on A350 from PER-SIN and it was similarly comfortable, but I am still a big fan of Cathay pacific 777-300 ER over the A350-1000 for long haul flights, especially when travelling in eco. Cathay are one of the few airlines left in the industry that still keep 3x3x3 configuration on the triple 7's in eco when most airlines operate 3x4x3 in the same cabin.
I wish my CX flight had the 3-3-3 configuration. The flight I took this august from LAX to HKG was on a 3-4-3 configured 777-300ER, and it was quite cramped. On the way back, I flew on China Southern’s 777-300ER, and that had the nice and roomy 3-3-3 configuration.
So happy to hear that Cathay Pacific is finding their feet again after such a rough patch of circumstances. In the 1990s through mid-2000s, I used to travel to HKG annually from JFK and always loved the product and especially the customer service. I literally was searching for flights to HKG just yesterday to see what their flight schedule and pricing looked like in econ and business. Thanks for the great review. Safe travels!
As a person from Hong Kong, thanks for reviewing the Cathay Pacific
That seems fine for short haul flights. I liked the history refresher lesson on this airline.
Nice review, balanced and fair.
I love Cathay Pacific. I flew both A350 Variants with them last year and it was one of the best experiences I have ever seen. Fun fact: I got to fly on the first -1000 that Cathay received (B-LXA). :)
Great review. Thanks for great details and history lesson 👌
Cathay was the SQ of its days back then.
My parents divorced in the late 80s and my Dad eventually moved to HK for work in the early 90s. Consequentally during holidays my siblings and I would travel to HK and always with Cathay. There are times where my Dad would fly to JFK to meet us since we were all under age at that time but most of the time we were left at the care of the ground crew and cabin crew of Cathay.
I have so many fond memories of this airline and their wonderful crew 😊. Those epic landings at Kai Tak was always a highlight for us!
Only flew Cathay with the amazing First deals a couple years back (around 2019), that was an amazing time for the 16 hours ultra long haul, can't wait to be back at their HKG First lounges, this time due to status!
Amazing content as always.
My first experience flying is with Cathay way back in '95...impressed then and impressed more after watching this video.Keep it up Cathay !!
Agree with your assessment. I’ve been back to Asia three times since HKG opened this year and although CX still have a ways to go, along with HKG itself, I have complete confidence the airline will emerge stronger and better in the next couple years.
Awesome video ! I love Cathay Pacific , thank you 🛩👏🏼😍
You are lucky to be able to book Cathay Pacific early ahead of the massive crowds that just recently jammed the HK airport.
Great content as always. Virgin Atlantic and Etihad also fly the A35K
Thank you so much Josh for this great and awesome flight review of this lovely flight 🤩😍👍🏼✈️😊
Noel did both Cebu Pacific's A333 AND A339. He did the A333 Manila to Dubai I think, and the A339 to Singapore if my memory doesn't fail me. I don't envy him in that Dubai flight 😢
I had two good flights with them from Heathrow to Hong Kong
One November economy and one in March premium economy
Was really happy with the premium definitely will fly again with them , found the economy seat abit cramped
I love Cathay Pacific. I flew MAN - NRT via HKG in economy and the service was excellent. Lucked out on the return trip having entire rows to myself on both return flights too so I actually got plenty of sleep.
I agree with you on a couple of points. The hard product and food is very nice. BUT, I found on the 4 flights I have done on Cathay, the service wasn't very good. In my experiences, the crew seemed either not very happy, or a little stand-offish/cold. I have also noticed that the prices for tickets I usually purchase are 75% more expensive for the past 3 years. I can buy the same ticket on other airlines for almost half the price, which is a little disappointing because I did really like Cathay Pacific. Cheers.
Josh is back! I missed you man! ✈️
Good review Josh - Cathay Pacific will bounce back strongly as the HK lockdown was never its fault and their financial standing is very strong and amongst the strongest in the APAC region alongside with Qantas and SIA. In the next 12-18 months, Cathay will regain its crown as largest Asian international airline. I prefer Cathay over SIA anyday!
CX cmi
I flew from SF - BKK before the pandemic or even before it's financial struggling and I was very impress with Cathay, both services and food. I still remember the little tiger doll and fortune cookie I received at SFO, a very warm service there.
I am from Hong Kong. And I must say CX used to be a very top airline for me and I was so proud of having such a great local airline in HK. However, after suffered from their unkind service in my last on board experience of CX in 2019, which was before the pandemic, I changed my mind about CX. I think the relatively expensive fare (compare to other 5-star airlines) with a regressive service quality just make CX less attractive to me.
What happened? Were the flight attendants rude to you? If so, can you expand on it? Thank you 🙏
I flew with Cathay a few weeks ago to Japan and I had some great flights with them. AMS-HKG-HND / NRT-HKG-AMS. A few weeks before departure I received an email from Cathay the flight from HKG to AMS was departing an hour earlier, leaving me with a very short connection time at Hong Kong. I called them and within a few minutes they've booked me on an earlier flight from Tokyo without questions asked. The seats in economy were comfortable especially on the A350-1000 and I managed to sleep for 9 hours on the HKG-AMS flight. Their meal services on all flights were great and you could order additional noodles and drinks in the galley. I was happy to see for Cathay all of the 4 flight I took were full to almost full. I hope they do well in the future and recover from Covid times.
This airline is definitely the most racist airline, they discriminate against everyone except whites and Hongkongers, including blacks, Indians, Chinese, Taiwanese, Filipinos, Malaysians and Koreans
Another great review and discussion of Hong Kong's situation. My first ever flight was a Cathay 747 YVR-HKG in 2001 and last was Jan 2019. Always been amazing flights and service, interesting to see where they are now.
Oh and as a flight vlogger, you must do a Cebu Pacific a330 long haul lol. Can't let Noel one up you!!
I really miss Hong Kong and Cathay and hope to be back soon. I'm glad to see things on the way back up.
Back in the 90s when I had good fortune of fair amount of travel Cathy’s was always the cognac airline. In Economy they would come round with a tray of miniature glasses and a bottle of cognac after the meal….. plus if flying sufficiently in the past, the best landing at Kai Tak !
7:30 yep Noël passed the Cebu Pacific self torture test.
Asking around in The Phillipinnes taught me that they rather like the national carrier Philippines Airlines. Space, luggage , food. And also sometimes terrible departure times. Reminded me of Ryanair .
It used to be a great airline, but as China increased it influence in Hong Kong it deteriorated very quickly. In answering your question in 1 word "NO!"
Well no sh*t. HK is part of the PRC
Great review Josh, I'm sure Cathay will bounce back soon. They don't say Ni Hao in Hong Kong, wrong language, they don't speak Mandarin but Cantonese. Instead they would say "lei ho"!
Your presentations are always highly interesting to watch. Thank you very much and take care.
Congrats on 600K!
since you fly cathay you should greet in cantonese with “nei ho” 😊
Congrats on 600k subs mate!!
Can we appreciate that he travels everywhere every day just for us he is an amazing soul 😁
Great review! I hope you give Xiamen Air another chance!
Congrats Josh on 600k subs!!❤✈️🎉
Not flown for a few years but CP was always my first choice, always had amazing food.
Cathay are great. Flew with them long haul and short last month and they were terrific.
You have a low bar
Your standards are way too high. Cathay's great.
I am flying YYZ to HKG to SIN in July on A350-1000. I cannot wait! Seat 40A and I just bought a Cabeau S3 pillow. 😊😊
Your presentations are always highly interesting to watch. Thank you very much and take care. 😊
Me awake at 6am on the US East Coast: "Finally, awake when a Josh Cahill video drops"
So many great memories when it comes to Hong Kong and Cathay Pacific. My first ever flight was on Cathays Pacifics Queen back then
Josh, WONDERFUL as usual but there's just one BIG problem, I'm beyond JEALOUS! The Airbus A350-1000 is the airplane in which I most want to fly! Infact I've never flown on an Airbus aircraft at all and it's looking like I'll never get the chance to do so. I used to live in Nairobi and flew MANY Boeing 707's, Douglas DC8's, Vickers VC10's, Comet 4's but that all ended in 1975 and since then I've only flown on a Boeing 757 from Gatwick (UK) to Bodrum (Turkey) and back two weeks later in 1997. THAT'S WHY I'M SO JEALOUS OF YOU MATE!
I like the video very much Josh great video
Had a flying question, are you able to have one booking from your home city to a country, and then book a seperate flight from that country to your destination?
As a former travel consultant I loved booking passengers bound for Asia on Cathay Pacific. They would be guaranteed a great flight with impeccable service. As Hong Kong was handed over to China I saw the writing on the wall. Sadly what I was worried about has unfortunately happened.
Yeah, Donald Trump is very anti-China
What did they think would happen when the “Brits” left?
also air India is getting the a350-1000 in the next few years
doesn’t understand why the riots start…… 😅Hong Kong didn’t really change much under the administration of the Chinese government. actually, the power of autonomy in hk, as a special administrative region in china, basically means they still act individually and not so much affected by the mainland.
@@user-dy9ri2xe7r
Ask the people of Hong Kong individually in the streets and you’ll understand your interpretation is completely wrong.
Well explained. Thank u so much
Yo Josh Cahill, Been a fan of yours since awhile. Congrats on Getting 600k subs
6:10 Hi Josh, Virgin Atlantic run the A350-1000 as well. Love your content.
Flew on Cathay for the first time in 2018 in 4 flights. The best airline I've ever flown and I can't wait to fly Cathay again.👍
Sir, we say "lei ho" using Cantonese in Hong Kong, not Mandarin "ni hao".
It's a thing that gets on a lot of local nerves when people speak Mandarin to us and/or assume it's spoken in Hong Kong.
You said it yourself, we don't take the differences lightly haha
Wow I literally booked this flight for later this year in business as part of a larger trip. How timely!
I flew with them many years ago ,very good.but normally fly Qatar . Flight prices have increased so much this year going to fly with Cathay Pacific this yr from Madrid to hongkong then on to Bangkok economy. We will see an affordable price.
Josh you MUST do Cebu Pacific. Their fares come up so cheap and I'm so curious to see a detailed account of whether it's worth the saving (or rather: if it's something I could survive lol).
it's only a charter for expat workers going to the middle East. I don't think anyone is purposely choosing to fly with cebu international. domesticallt they are a good airline though
Back in the early 2000's when I commuted between NYC and Vancouver I took them religiously. They had a JFK/Hongkong flight that made one stop to Hong Kong. They outperformed all alternatives. I then started traveling to Hong Kong regularly and took them up through late 2019, including during the protests. They were still good.
When i was a kid around 5~6 years of age (im now 33)
CX was my very first flight ✈️
I still remember how nice the staff was. I've also experienced flying by myself and this old dude asked me to follow him out the plane (i didn't know that the flight attendant would pick me up 😅) and they all panicked when i went missing 😅😅😅.
Overall CX has been the best airline, but since the protest started then we have the pandemic. It really did HIT CX really hard. Hopefully they would be back and better.
My recent flight was a bit disappointing.
Some staffs was speaking quite loud to customers asking them to HURRY in a rudely manner 😮💨.
I flew with Cathay in January and the service is pretty decent tho!
I flew Cathay in the early 90's and early 2000's. They were fantastic back then.
In the 1990s, Cathay and Singapore competed for best airline and some surveys put one of the other ahead. When an airline is focused on long haul, it tends to also focus on good service and comfort.
The opening of China presente big problem for Hong Kong based Cathay: western business was more and more conducted directly in China (Shanghai in particular) vs Hong Kong. Cathay got Dragonair to get access to mainland China but being British owned, the Chinese government weren't very keen and Cathay experienced number of fights. Swire is now down to roughly 40% depending on what week you look at the number, and there is cross ownership with Air China (govt of China owned).
Cathay still offers 32" seat pitch in coach, and in most of its 777s, still at 3--3-3 ( 777 originally designed for 8 across) though a vew layouts are in the densified 10 across config to match the 787s's narrower seats. But that its 777s are still 9 across is good indication that it is still a confortable airline.
Air New Zealand in the 1990s used to be right up there in the best airlines but today, has become a bland one with 10 across densified seating on coach. On a 15 hour flight, this makes a big difference.
Happy to see Cathay Pacific back to its best!
The middle seat is always the hellish cattle claustrophobic nightmare in any seat configuration.
yeah i did the Hong kong to Singapore on Cathay last Feb and I have to say I enjoyed it more than London to Singapore in Singapore Airlines. I def will try and fly Cathay in the future when flying to Asia
Flew with them couple of months before the protests. BNE to SGN and then on the way back had a week stop over in Hong Kong. Enjoyed the service with the understanding oh the struggles they where happening. It's sad for an airline that's close to my family as my dad worked for them for a few years and many of his pilot friends flew for them
I have just flew with them and I found them excellent and the food was 10 STAR and next time I fly back to Australia from the Philippines it will be definitely with them
YESSSSS PLEASE to Cebu Pacific!!!!!
I flew Xiamen Airlines from Melbourne to Xiamen in March this year! I found the crew to be super friendly and the food quite reasonable. The ground crew at Xiamen Airport was particularly friendly and helpful. I would fly them again. Also I flew Air china from Beijing to Melbourne in March as well. Their food was very ordinary. So comparing Xiamen Air and Air China, I would choose XIamen Airlines anytime! the plane I flew on Xiamen Air was a 787.
