    I am a most fortunate man. I met and got Miss Price's autograph (on my college student worker's pay stub) and much later met and got Miss Fleming's after her concert in Los Angeles. Both of these women are not only great voices of my long life, but great Americans of my time. Brava and thank you, ladies!

      Look up Baritone Robert McFerrin on this you-tube website, reflect
      on that voice, then ask why wasn't he as celebrated, if it doesn't bother
      your mind to ponder that!

      Perhaps, but it was always easier for Black females to get into opera. Historically speaking, we've had a substantial amount of black females (Soprano or Mezzo-Soprano) to grace the main stage of the Metropolitan Opera house and abroad when in comparison to their Black male counterparts.

    Fleming is very modest about herself. I believe her high C is one of the most exquisite one's I've heard - and I have heard a lot of them in my lifetime. I'm sure Ms. Price is proud of her protege.

      @johnrakthai Před 7 lety

      Jionipenda Adili-Adele guess you've never heard Galli-Curci, Hempel, deana Durbin, Milanov, tetrazzini? and there are MANY more! Singers of the golden age.

      @JionipendaAdiliAdele2014 Před 7 lety +22

      You know, it just baffles me why some people feel the need to be so argumentative with someone else that is just making a complimentary comment about an opera singer. When did I imply that Fleming is the only diva with a beautiful high C that I have ever heard? Obviously, you're just a young student whose reading comprehension is poor. I have heard ALL of those you have mentioned and a whole lot more. So, can I say something nice about Fleming's high C without you thinking that means that no one else's high C is also beautiful as well???

    I knew when I first heard Renee Fleming sing that she was listening to a muse that most other people never heard. She always made me stop and listen to what she was doing. I always thought no one ever wedded voice to music and text in such a wondrous way since Price was singing. Both sopranos so unique and both so different. Thank you great singer for voicing your spot on appreciation of Price's glorious singing.

      @arnoldamaral7406 Před 5 lety +4

      MrCakewalker when I first heard leontyne price in concert recital 1975 I couldn't believe that incredible sound was coming out of a human voice it sounded like I'm being from another planet so primal with so much color and depth. She sang for almost 2 hours two of the most beautiful hours of our lifetime. My wife and I have been married for a year and when Miss price started singing my wife and I just looked at each other that special look did you give someone that truly understands you the Kindred Spirits look. We went with my wife's best friend that she knew when she was around 14 years old we were 25 years old at the time and the concert was amazing. I know Renee Fleming State the obvious and I know that her and miss price are very good friends so I can see how she's so respectful and speaks of her so highly. I can't imagine being one of the greatest voices in the world and being female and black how difficult it must have been for Miss price to succeed Etc. But being the great lady that she is she did not succumb to the bigotry that existed in the fifties and sixties in the United States. A wonderful person so Regal so refined inarticulate. She is now in her early 90s and still going strong God bless her for giving us a wonderful gift I would refer to her the voice that keeps on giving because she had no equal. Just like Montserrat the great diva two completely different voices but to Great voices. A friend of mine asked me once if you had to choose between leontyne price and Montserrat CABALLE who would you choose he said now we have to choose someone. And my response was you cannot compare greatness. Please be kind to Renee she had a beautiful voice so lyrical and a great career. And she loves leontyne price deeply. Please excuse my typos I use the microphone when I make a comment. I have been listening to Montserrat most of the day I can't get her out of my head that great lady is that incredible voice. Sleep well Montserrat until we meet again. Revelation 21-1-4.

    when Mrs Price sings Strauss?...LIFE IS PERFECT...in my opinion, she is the greatest soprano who ever did it. God bless Callas and Sutherland and Caballe' and Milanov and Tebaldi and de los Angeles...and there are a few women who are "ranked" in front of Price. But when she opens her mouth to interpret song, Im sorry...but there is no greater voice, doing that. She is in her own lane, in my opinion. Technically?...I give an edge to Sutherland, who had the vocal technique of a surgeon. But Leontyne Price is the greatest opera singer, Ive ever seen, hands down.

      robert b. howse Don’t be silly, MOST of the finest operatic sopranos and mezzos of recent decades have been Americans. Price, Sills, Horne, Verrett, Bumbry, Arroyo, Troyanos, von Stade, Battle, Norman, Fleming, Bonney, Zajik, Radvanovsky, etc. And each one of them a highly individual voice and musical personality! I defy anyone to name another country that has such a distinguished lineage. Now let’s talk about the baritones...

    Renee Fleming is an authority on voice now ? She is an overkill here , some of these Americans are so fake ! Leontyne Price is the Grand Dame , there is no question ! But my dear , by far there are so many brilliant singers , gone and present, to name a few Marian Anderson,Marlyn Horne, Janet Baker, Monserrat Caballe, not forgetting Rise Stevens, who had a brilliant career in opera and film ! I mean Renee if you had to do an interview about another person I’m sure you would say the exact same thing , fake as hell !
