Indeed. I played trumpet in High-school Band over 45 years ago. Every trumpet 🎺 player dreamed of playing like Doc. The trumpet is not an easy Instrument to play well. I still play in Church, but well know now as I did, then to get to the level of Doc, would be like trying to jump to the moon 🌙 😮
My friend had a VCR back when this came on TV. He taped this for me and I watched it a million times. At the beginning of the broadcast Doc played Superman. Now I have seen clips from this concert all over You Tube. Nobody has the opening with Doc playing John Williams Superman. If anybody knows where it can be found please let me know.
WTH is with the one thumbs down. Phenomenol playing by probably the best all around trumpet player ever! Don't think there is a style of music Doc doesn't excel at.
I had this concert on VCR back in the day. I have seen Mac Arthur Park and Malagueña but none of the rest of the concert.Doc began this show with the theme to Superman the movie. Anyone know where you can find the rest of this show?
Close as I can place it, 1978-79. Superman The Movie premiered in 1978. Maynard did a studio version in 1970. Then a live version at I think Jimmy’s in NYC 1973 for MF Horn 4&5. Then Doc started playing this arrangement around 1975. I don’t remember it before 1975 but there are a couple guys I can ask.
My Dad, God rest his soul, was a trumpeter of local renown during the Swing Era. God he loved watching Doc. Know I know why. I was a Maynard Ferguson fan. Doc's a much better technical player with truer tone. Not quite as exciting though.
Anyone who is learning to play trumpet, should watch and listen to Doc Severinson.

The first section of this is beyond imagination as it the rest . I always learned put your best selling point first and he did.
Much better performance than the Jack Jones show version - AWESOME! thanks!

I would give Rafael Méndez that title, but Doc is/was up near the top.
Killer playing by Doc, but who's in that trumpet section? Snooky's probably playing lead but I can't tell who else.

Is a concert made by canadian TV show? Burt Bacharach has a concert in the mid 70s with the same orchestra and same stage.
