Stator Testing : If Rube Goldberg played with electricity !

First things first. If you don't feel confident performing this test, DO NOT DO IT.
Don't be dumb and burn something down or ruin a perfectly good stator trying this.
Now that that is out of the way. This method will work well for comparative testing. If you need to measure against a specific specification, you will have to do some math and ambient temperature measurements to get an accurate measurement.
This testing method does have its limitations, which is why they make proper meters for proper testing. I'm just demonstrating that this is possible and practical if this is all you have.
