During that stream I asked about the fan spinning fast on my Xbox one X and it possibly being thermal paste. You confirmed that it would be and you were right. Barely anything on the heatsink or GPU, all squeezed out. Now all is silent :) was scary for me to do, but seen you do it enough to give me the confidence. Thankyou :)

I don’t think most people realize that doing the actual repair work is only a fraction of the time that goes into this business. Most of my time is spent going back and forth via email with customers and other admin tasks. It’s draining.
That and the amount of people with very unrealistic expectations of what can be fixed is ridiculous and people don't like being told "no I won't work on your console".
I had one recently, "I dropped my PS5 down a flight of stairs and it wont turn on and the black casing is all cracked". When I told them that not only am I temporarily closed but that I also wouldn't want to waste my time and charge them for that time they got all upset calling me unprofessional. Well first off you messaged a business listing that states "temporarily closed" and secondly it's my choice whether I want to take your device in or not. They then started demanding to know why I am closed. Not only is it none of their business, I legitimately told them off and told them to go elsewhere and just blocked them. Makes no difference to me.
Even worse now is that the amount of people demanding a discount (for no reason other than just demanding) because the cost of say, an hdmi port is nothing compared to the overall cost is insane. Where I am, I charge $150 to do an HDMI port on a PS5, I have people being serious when they ask if I can do it for $40 because it only takes an hour. You can imagine their confusion when they read the message and I just don't even bother wasting my time to respond.

Hay Phil....listening to you talk about future ideas... most gadget repair shops unfortunately pay min wage. We have one here in Plymouth taking on quite a few technicians. Someone with your level of expertise is worth a lot more than min wage. Also I would imagine most repair places wouldn't let you film your fixes for your tube content. You would have to do that as a side line. Can your good lady help take on the business side of it.
I was going to comment something similar. Also they would expect you to do the things Phil hates, like screen replacements on phones and 'part swapping'. If they already had a tech that does that stuff, there may not be enough consoles to repair. Also the wage as you say. Phil would make about 50 an hour self employed, no shop owner in the country would pay that hourly wage.
Plus they would want you to be customer facing, they wouldn't let you be the man behind the curtain.
And with out a bed heater?? I give you hella props

I am running similar repair shop in Poland along with video games shop similar to CEX and believe me - managing it all by yourself is hard

Hey Phill we have jobs at my place in Telford. Doing laptop repairs if you can solder they are on it for you buttt ! Great company too :D Thats why I gave up tv repairs, was too much todo on my own and not enough money made fast sometimes.

If I lived local, I'd take over the business end and have you just turn out the repairs.
If I lived in the UK, I would definitely throw my hat in to run the business side for you.
Phil you are amazing at your job but I understand why the job can be stressful (even my job gets on my nerves). Our job has 3 technicians (including me), a coordinator and an administrator. You obviously need someone to help with the people side of things.
What if you hire someone like a relative or wife/girlfriend do the business side of things and just check on them once in a while?

You won't be happy working for somebody else. Phil you taught yourself how to repair electronics. You just need to focus on setting boundaries and the managing side of the business. Sorin actually has some good videos about this subject.
Ya gone and &$@ed up. So what. It happens. I have faith that you can master the admin side. The problem with self management is setting boundaries. People tend to burn out by getting frustrated over trying to work harder . All
You need to do is streamline. Be more efficient.

Could not your missus take care of the admin side o' things, maybe pay for her to do a Sage course and would free you up to do repairs and maintain stock in the shop? Of course you would have to pay her a good rate but means she can be involved as much as or as little as needed and after doing a Sage course you will find your expenditures go down to almost nothing as everything is tax claimable.
JDT got a job with rocket repairs I think. Could you not approach them for a job. After all, he references you as a reason he got into repair. Maybe that's an option. Let them do the business side, you do the work.
JDT clearly stated he makes more money making CZcams videos than working in a shop.

@@TheCod3r I’m the same I’m dyslexic but my brother had his own business and ones he took me thought it I got the hang of quickbooks. Ones you work for someone else your regrets it my brother did
I think you should aproach Sony, it's their fault you have so many repairs to do. get them to pay you a wage for their shody work. get them to set you up with a small unit and a secretary to handle accounts/sales/admin, and business sides of it stationed locally to you in the UK. Just a thought,
All you need is to hire a manager. They can coordinate repairs, promote your content, and hire an accountant and such.
Or maybe just create ticket system that contain user shipping data, deliver system, required parts order etc. could be done with MS Access or maybe Service now. Just use some other Automation tool that for example create the shipping label or for email correspondence some template. I think more organisation and automation could make his life way easier.

You're monetizing already, just hire a manager/admin and you don't have to deal with the business side anymore. You can't expect everything to be like it is and just get another wage on top of that, I'm sorry, it's not realistic.
The joys of working for yourself. Doing the job is only a small part of running a business. It can sometimes take me longer to do the paperwork than do the job. Add no paid holidays, no sick pay, accounts to do, no pay security, you can't financially plan ahead. I could go on.
To true, no matter the country and size of shop you run. The work takes longer than the actual work😁.
It’s a shame how things are going for you at the moment. You are undeniably a fantastic technician, but the business side does seem to be causing you problems. I myself have been on receiving end of the problems with your business management, where I have been waiting for 6 months for my repair order with no sign of resolution. You aren’t taking phone calls or replying to messages, no repair or refund in sight.
Obviously want you to continue as a CZcams creator, but you really need someone to sort out the business side.

Is there a local games store that would just act as an agent for you perhaps? They handle all the collection/returning of devices you just go and collect, fix them and drop them back. They handle all the admin side and just pay you X for each repair.
