Any Pistons fan or watcher will say that Monty wasn't good at all. Terrible decisions all year, lousy rotations, players out of position, little to no development. He didn't ever seem to care whatsoever. Whether you think he could do well somewhere else or not, he never did anything good at all his entire time in Detroit.

Can't bribe a guy into caring. The exact opposite of Dan Campbell in every way.

All FACTS He NEVER wanted to be here. He STRICTLY took the job for the money and I'm truly disappointed that Troy Weaver didnt see and feel that as well. I NEVER like this hire. This dude never was going to connect with this roster. So glad Trajan got him tf outta here. That was some loser shyt. For situations like this there needs to be a way in the contract to recoup some of that frickin cash.

He took the job purely because he was offered that obscene amount of money. Pretty sure he was actively trying to get fired too, kind of outrageous honestly.

That is a very clean analysis and summary of what happened in this case. Monty never appeared engaged with organization and players. He appeared disinterested about the draft last year. Yes, please move on. Why did it take until June to do this?

Monty's lineups were incomprehensible, Monty's substitutions were incomprehensible and Monty's minutes distributions were incomprehensible. Other than that - Monty was just freaking great.

Don't forget the offensive and defensive schemes.
Playing multiple non-shooters is one thing but you can't set up an offense that just sticks them in the corner so the defense can put two on the ball with impunity.
It took 20 games for him to realize you could run players off screens before running your PnR and could run Spain PnR. (Which was basically the entire offense the last 60 games.)
Jalen was in a deep drop all year even though he's not a particularly good rim deterrent in drop and our guards generally sucked at going over screens.
And don't forget the switch everything defense that was probably only a couple games but felt like 3 months because every time a big man pulled Ausar off the opponent's best perimeter player for literally no reason I had a mild brain aneurysm

@@chimorriegeorge7284 Casey was a freaking coaching genius compared to Monty. But in Monty's defense - he clearly had no interest whatsoever in being here and in actually coaching and developing this young team. He set back the young core's development rather than moving it forward. That's what bothered me. Not losing games. That was to be expected. : /

I’ll tell you one of the reasons why it never worked out. He started Killian Hayes over Jaden Ivey for a good chunk of the season. KILLIAN HAYES who’s not even in the league anymore. And the only reason he started playing Jaden was because the FO had to have a meeting with him and be like hey play Jaden

Didn't like the insinuation that Monty was the one being freed, more like the Pistons were the ones that got freed from Monty. But Vincent hit everything on the nose. He did forget to mention that Monty was not just the wrong coach for the Pistons, he is just a bad coach.

  • @mattravidam4q

Jalen Duren is a bonafide player there. Monty just toyed with his development

    • @michaelahurt
      @michaelahurt Před 10 dny +1

He will be but Cade is the only one of the young guys who is actually good now. Duren was close to a replacement level player as far as impact.
But honestly Duren was the one guy besides Cade who actually got to grow and try some things. Monty screwed up Ausar and Ivey way worse.
Duren got to play as a handoff hub, play some high - low, bring the ball up and attack off the dribble, and take some mid-range shots. He showed real growth as a passer/playmaker and his improved shooting touch (mostly from the line) is massive

  • @daveconleyportfolio5192

He stunk as a coach. It was always about the money. If you can't coach young players, you can't coach PERIOD.
