One of the best ever, doesnt even require explanation.
Totally agree .
Pretty much! lol!
Um... Get a grip.
Awesome video again Sootch. I started forging my own knives about a year ago. I now truly appreciate what it takes to make a good knife. This is one of them. I love these knife reviews. Good stuff my friend
The ESEE 4 is my EDC knife. I carry it small of my back. I’ve never been uncomfortable carrying it that way, even driving my truck.
One of the most inspirational channels in preppardness. I've been following your channel for a long time. Keep it up
Esee makes great knives period . American made - Excellent warranty and excellent customer service . I have the 6 and after comparing my Mora Garberg to a friends Esee 4 during an elk hunt , The Esee 4 is on the to get list . Great review on a knife which outperforms many custom blades . ATB & Happy New Year .
Thanks Brother! ESEE is one of my all time favorite blades too.
I have a couple esee knives. The Laser Strike is my favorite.
I’m a year late in thanking you for the review. I now own 7 ESSE’s. I had never heard of them until I started watching you. Appreciate everything!👍🏿
I own the 6, and love it - it's a great blade. The 4 is one my wish list; I'll probably pull the trigger on buying it soon, and carry it with a horizontal sheath. Great video, and enjoy the stuff you do on Survival Dispatch Insider. Happy New Year!
Me too! Any idea where to get a good horizontal sheath?.
I love my esee 4 and 5. I keep the 4 strapped to the roll bar in my Jeep and the 5 in my get home bag. I skinned a turkey with mine a few years back and did the job flawlessly. Great quality knives at an affordable price. I also have a few Tops knives of equal quality. Thanks for the great review Sootch!
Looks like a great knife and a great company. I've got the Ka-Bar BK2, which is a solid beast, but need something a bit longer. I will be looking more into the ESEE collections soon. Thanks for the review!
I am glad you’re endurance is good enough.
Of the 5 models I've owned, the Junglas is my favorite ESEE. Works great for adventures in south east Asia. I carried the 6 on my kit many times. The 5 is kind of a chunker. The 3 and 4 were gifted away.
Hello my outdoors friend, thank you for sharing this informational video. Esee is certainly a great knife vendor. All the best to you and your family. 🤗
I have the 6 and love it!
I love my ESEE 3, but looking forward to getting the 4 very soon!
I'm a fan of almost every knife they make. Phenomenal company!
I've been subscribed to this channel for a long time. That being said you keep me in the dog house. Just kidding awesome video buddy. Just purchased the izula 2 now thinking about the 4 . God bless
I'm a big Esee fan. Love these knives because they're super tough.
Great video Don.
Thanks Kid! They are excellent for sure
I’m honestly surprised you haven’t reviewed this knife over the years with how popular it is. Living in the suburbs I don’t have much use for a fixed blade, I carry folders. However, if I were to go out and do some hiking or visit the country, this would be my knife of choice to take with me. Not to big to weigh you down, but big enough to do most small to medium tasks.
Want the Esee 6, such a fine camp knife.
@John Grytbakk - You won't regret getting the 6 which is better than a few of my customs which cost $400 - $600 . ATB & Happy Holidays .
lol i have the 6 and i want the 4 and izula for edc
I finally bought this knife for my husband and its such a great and amazing find. Ive seen benchmade and gerber products and a whole lot more. But for starters, its really an awesome thing to have thats not only being used for 1 purpose but for multiple reasons. We just actually used it just this morning to cut up fruits and it felt really nice. The handling was smooth. Overall, I really love it and it was well worth the purchase. I was debating on this or the esee 6. I would love to have both but for now we will be sticking to this knife. 🙃
appreciate your informative vids.
Many thanks!
My goto blade is the ESEE 6. TKC just makes it even better 👍🏻
I like the look of that knife and it seem to be very well built. I have many knives and love them all.
Best hundred bucks you can spend. Nice everyday camp knife
Try the 5. It's a tank! 1/4" thick blade. Excellent for battoning
This knife for bushcraft excelent thank you my bro! Good video
Thanks Brother!
Sootch great knife skills. I like the way you made shavings pulling the wood across the blade while the knife was fixed into the deck. Overall, a very useful knife that excels because of the simplicity of the purpose built, solid design. Great review. Stainless version is on my wish list.
Thanks Rhino! Knives are the number one survival tool for good reasons. There's still a lot I don't know but trying to learn every day!
@@SensiblePrepper Amen Brother Sootch ! You provide a great service to us all. Thanks for the reply, that means a lot to me.
I do like my ESEE-5!
4" is a nice working and handy size. If you are going to have a fixed blade, full tang, I agree.
Esee knifes are GREAT my fav is the Esee 5 it's on my wish list to buy one day thank you for the video.
Thanks Richard and a Happy 2020 to you my friend.
@@SensiblePrepper Thank you HAPPY new year for 2020 for you and your family also. :)
My ESEE4 will be my granddaughter's when she gets a bit older.
A pinky lanyard improves the chopping ability considerably.
Love the esee 4!
I bought the Esee 4 and thought it would be by only back up knife to keep in my pack now I own 7 Esee knives I can’t stop buying a different style it’s an addiction
I feel that the Cold Steel Master Hunter in 3V is an excellent alternative. And that’s coming from a big ESEE fan.
Well it's v3 steel. No Esse is going to beat that. It can do anything the Esse 5 can with less size/thickness and great rust resistance. It doesn't have that shitty coating Esse has that wears off after one use. They need to invest in better coatings like DLC.
When you compare to the others they have no comparison. Everyone gips you on either steel, scales, sheath, design, reliability or customer service.
I called a major manufacturer about a safety issue on 4 folders I bought and say they’re too busy to help me right now if ever.
I have the 4HM, RB3, and the 6HM. Love them all! Would also like to see a review on the PKS Mountaineer and PKS Kephart.
I recommend this knife to all my Soldiers if they want a good knife.
I've got the RB3 Camp Lore. Absolutely awesome knife.
Been looking at that one.
@@sektion333 It's far more awesome when you take it out of the box than it appears on line
Just ordered one.
If and when I get the chance to invest in an ESEE knife either the ESEE 4 or 5 will be my pick.
I have the esee 3 and 4 with s35vn blades and love them both
I have 11 Esee knives. 4 Izula, 2 #3, 2#4, a five and a six and finally the big boy Junglas. The #5 get mthe lest amount of use. Just too heavy on the spine. The 4 and 6 are really good, but the ones that get the most use is the Izula one and two. Best knife value on the market today.
Those are great knives, I personally care a Tops BOB knife, and also carry a Tops Tom Brown, Jr tracker #1 edition on occasion.
ESEE knives are great, but don’t forget that some Ontario Knife Company’s knives were designed by ESEE founders and are also great at 25% lower in cost compared to ESEE models. The Rat 3,4,5, and 7 series for example get high ratings and are very similar in design, but the sheathing is often lower in quality.
Happy new year all! 💥 🇺🇸🔪🍻
Do they have lifetime warranty also?
@@mbhaus6349 They have a good warranty but esse is unmatched
Nice knife...Greetings from Brazil ...😁
thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I picked one with a partially serrated blade, in AS NEW condition, with tan coated blade and OD sheath, and its bigger brother, the ESEE6, same blade configuration with black finish, but USED in VG+ condition for $50 each at an LGS/pawn shop.
Great find!
@@smokinjoe2539 i found a Condor K-Tact kukri at the same shop earlier this year for $65. It showed some mild 'abuse', but still has a lot of life left in it.
I have an ESEE 4 and an ESEE 6. Love the ESEE 6. My only issue with the ESEE 4 is the small handle, or at least to small handle for my hand.
Check out the knife center after market handles.
Esee 3 and a Case Sodbuster CV for Christmas, wife done very well.
Sounds like a keeper! lol! Thanks Gerry!
Looks like a buy to me!
Great knives. I have both. Problem is that the grips can get slippery.
Grip tape for tennis rackets will solve the problem.... sold in most sporting goods stores
Bought one last year, haven't used it yet. I have to many knives...
You can have too many backpacks, you can never have enough knives 👍🏼💯
@@Eric-ew8jt I also have to many backpacks...
Knives of Alaska !!!
Esee makes quality knives for sure. I don't think a 4 in. blade needs a finger choil for choking up, but that is my personal preference.
Nice I have the complete set but from Ontario Knife Company.
For me it's the ESEE 5!
I literally have every esee knife except the four LOL I love them all but all of them are in high carbon
Looks good. But, I need a concealed sheat,h horizon sheath for urban concealed carry self defense. Can you recommend a leather horizontal sheath for this Esee 4 fixed blade knife.
I picked up a Candiru.
Not bad, but you’ll wanna really wrap the handle in 550, or pick up the Micarta handles.
No Homo, but at the beginning ":04" mark, you're flashing your moose knuckle there Mr SP!
I have the ESEE 3 great knife, sturdy and well made but a bit too short. The ESEE 4 looks a bit more "camp" useful.
So many choices but yeah, the ESEE 4 is a great compromise to same a little length with the 5 or 6. The ESEE 3 will take you a long way regardless. Thanks A M
I like my ESEE 4 alright but honestly,I like the ESEE 3 quite a bit better..my best way to describe the ESEE 4 is it is a jack of all trade but a master of none..IMO it’s a little too thick for its length.I personally wish it’s blade stock was the same as the ESEE 3..the ESEE 4 is as thick as the ESEE 6 but the ESEE 6 is a couple inches longer and it’s thick blade stock makes more sense to me as it’s long enough to do light chopping and long enough to comfortably baton to some fairly thick logs..the ESEE 3 is my personal favorite ESEE,the thinner blade makes it an amazing slicer,it excels in everything I want out of a knife of its size..it’s great for whittling,hunting,fishing,bushcraft,hiking,etc..it’s my main camp knife,I usually pair it with my ESEE Junglas(my 2nd favorite ESEE).I use my ESEE 3 for pretty much everything but when it’s time for the heavy work I whip out the Junglas as it is an excellent chopper and I’m comfortable batoning with it,if I feel the need(though I’m not a big fan of batoning,it’s rather abusive)..I took the shoulders off the edge and made a put a much finer edge on my ESEE 4 which definitely improved it but it still doesn’t hold a candle to my S35VN ESEE 3
Esee 4 is awesome. I think the 4 is the best all rounder
Agreed. It's a nice compromise between size and ability. Thanks Brother!
@@SensiblePrepper no thanks to you. Alot of my purchases through the years have been thanks to your reviews. Greetings and happy holidays from Malta
Did a search and found a plain jane one for $44.00, knife only, on the net. Not an imposter. At my house now.
It’s on my list in the #2 spot. I just feel like the Essee 3 would get used more often. Pick one of those up and do a review on it!
I have both and actually like the 3 better. Also the 6. 4 is not really my thing, at least this one. The hm i like a lot!
My advice - Get the Esse RB3 Camp Lore for the smaller bushcraft chores and a 5 + inch blade from Outdoor Survival (Pathfinder School) for larger stuff like batonning. I always carry at least 2 blades into the bush.
Yeah, I'm torn between size and effectiveness. I need to pick up an ESEE 3 for sure. I've had an ESEE Izula for years and that's one heck of a knife even though it's small. Thanks Jack!
Awesome review ! New friend Ruthie
Thanks Ruthie! I appreciate it
ESEE 4 is nice, but the handle length is way too short. Thanks for the video my Bladed Brother ⚔️⚔️⚔️
Wondering if I can get sparks off a ferro rod when scraping it w/the backside of the knife. Is that possible w/this knife??
@Gen5 Ok, didn't know that. It looked like a 90° spine. Let me RE-phrase the question like this, "Is the metal/steel conducive to being able to scrape sparks from a ferro rod?" I ask this because I have an over $200+ dollar KA-bar, and I couldn't get sparks off of that darn thing if I had to! The properties of the steel (which I think is treated with something) won't allow it.
@Gen5 OK!!! That's what I wanted to know!! Good 👍 deal!!
I live in a very damp wet environment. So I think I’ll to have stainless. Carbon just rusts here.
Esee knives are the best
Scooch, you were wacking on Mama's crepe myrtles. She's gonna get you.
Again I'm all for that about having post shtf communities and then having like a community shed set up for major tools that would be needed, also definitely people need to try to keep as much of a stash of cash as possible for the purposes of bartering in starting over when things get Advanced enough (etc), and ahead of time people to start up on Hardcore topics thatll be for needed later so that at the very least when if need be have to put heads together to get things figured out. also keeping like lemons on hand they have most of the vitamins you need to survive they say that you can survive just on potatoes and milk I guess. you could add dried milk to whatever other food product then it's there with all the nutrients intact and dried milk is especially nutritious. There's times where it's down to a matter of you get what you pay for!
Great review. I am jealous that u are wearing shorts.
I like these knives scooch but I have been a buck man since 1970
Nothing wrong with a Buck! Love the one you're with! lol! Thanks
NOT a chopper. Add a chopper in addition to this fine knife.
100%
I was looking for your amazon links if you have one on things you review
Top 50 items to be bartered after SHTF; also, the long run will matter far more!! Also keep basic soup ingredient supplies on hand for reasons I don't think that really need to be mentioned; those tall bags of stuffing are a good topping for Soups to help give a little extra substance; czcams.com/video/CCAcXg-iyFA/video.html
As I watch this video I can’t help but keep saying “why doesn’t he just break that stick?”
You seem to be quite the watch connaisseur. @ least on every video of yours that I've seen, you look to have a different watch. Maybe you should consider doing a survival watch video if you haven't done one already.
I love watches and I beat the heck out of them! lol! I've been thinking the same thing so maybe I'll put together some watch reviews. Thanks JEB! Love the name Brother

SURE hope you're NOT foreshadowing with the Hagman comment at the end. 🤔Not sure I have seen you do that before.
Hope not.... I just thought it was funny! lol!

i bang my knuckles when i use my esee 4 to cut branches
Junglas or bust!
That is what I use, and I agree. I carry the Junglas in my pack, it's worth the weight.
Stay firsty my friends
I lost this knife three years ago. HOW DID I LOSE IT??
I have a Gossman Polaris.
The same size and thickness.
But my knife dont rust.
Because Esse rust easely...it s a default for me.

I just got the S35 version,,,Its nice but not nice enough to keep, needs longer scales from The Knife Connection. Handle way too small. also need to grind the back end of the blade. When choking up that little nub nails you Thought it would be a good beater blade,,, but I"ll stick to my Bark river Bravo"s... gift this thing and laugh when that nub bites them
Chopping down a small tree....really?? Looks like a great knife used within its obvious limitations
It's a great knife..... but If you own property, trees will take over everything unless they are cut back. Trees are meant to be harvested and the idea that trees should not be cut caused the fires we're seeing in California. Either use it or loose it.
Bought the Esee 4 and got rid of it. It's not a well designed knife. It's got useless finger choil. I say useless because it's just too small and a finger choil on 4" knife makes absolutely no sense. The handle is just too short. It's also thin which I could live with but the short handle was a deal breaker. I have no idea why people rave about this knife when it's so uncomfortable and insecure to hold. The sheath is also pathetic. It's no longer kydex like it used to be.
I prefer a knife with serrations and contoured blade. This is just a plain bush craft knife.
That 4 is the most overrated knife on the market. Or mine is a monday product. I took it to work because I had nylon rope to cut but its to dull for that even after sharpening. It never holds a reasonable edge for a serious time. Also the handle is just nonsense. I really regret the money I spend for it, but I let myself blind by that " jungle" feeling that goes with the brand.
Tops knives are way better .
Almost 10 years this guy been makin " Prepper Videos " ..... I'll check back in another 10 years & he'll still be makn Prepper Videos for when the SHTF......

MyDogMike1 ask ur mother if im still a virgin...
Glad you can afford $80 to$100 for a knife that does that job ...
Most probably can't

This type of knife is a one time buy a lot better than any made in China knife. I find most people that bitch about the price are too lazy to pick up any cans or do any real work so they can buy any thing. Ive worked nights all over Christmas and I am also working New Years Eve also so I can buy what I want in 2020.

I have a rule where you shouldn’t be able to cut live trees, but you’re allowed to cut dead trees.
If you own property, trees will take over everything unless they are cut back. Trees are meant to be harvested and if not they will die off and cause the fires we're seeing in California.
That to I mean in a bad way where people are destroying woods
