Do you believe that Fujinon lenses are the only solution for best results with your Fuji camera?
No. viltrox is a real alternative. Hope they release zooms
Yes, but with an if. If you want best fuji jpeg, shoot with fuji lens. This is because fuji designed lenses for the xtrans system, not for normal bayer.
If you do raw, do with whichever lens.
@@trym2121 what is jpeg?
@@PavSZ You will know when your pictures start to look good without editing 😅 Shooting RAW doesn't make you pro.
@@Moh9518 but a lens hood will feel professional lol 🙃
Thank you for the brilliant review.
I wasn't sure about the lense but i think i will buy it. I've got the 85mm viltrox and I'm happy with it.
Glad it was helpful!
I have 85mm and 24mm and I love them
Was tempted to get the Viltrox 33 but also have the Fuji 35mm 1.4. Took the Fuji for a real testdrive the last days but can not fault it. At 1.4 already very sharp. Yes the edges a bit soft wide open but this also happens with my 35 and 50mm lenses on my dslr. And 35mm on apsc is not my most favorite focal lenght. So the Fuji stays.
Hello Pav 👊... I got into this production when I have been using this glass for several months :), this is the first player from this manufacturer that supports my Z50 ... I think I will gradually expand the Vili herd because I am very satisfied 😉👍
Great video dude! I love the change of scenery 👍🏻
thanks!! no lighting set-up needed ;)
Pav SZ as somebody that their face was hella dark this week, I can appreciate that lol
I waiting 16 mm from viltrox, thanks for review
very nice review!! Good job.. nice lens, perfect for amateur photographer :)
What do you think of Viltrox compared to sigma 30mm 1.4 for professional shots?
One of the best reviews for this lens!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
Great review! Liked how you got to all the points that I was looking for. Quick question, once you dial in your AF speed/smooth settings on native fuji prime, when switching to the viltrox, do you find the AF results to be the same? Or do you find yourself having to tweak those AF settings again for video. With my Fuji primes that’s one thing I noticed and love, that the desire AF results felt consistent when swapping primes. Might have to test the viltrox myself to see the results lol
hard to tell, sorry as I don't have any Viltrox lenses or a Fuji camera right now.
Can anyone answer this question?
@@PavSZ no worries and thx for the reply! If I get my hands on one to test I’ll share as well.
Thanks for the review. Looking to buy a X-T4 and a couple of primes at the moment and I just found out about the Viltrox lenses.
I was thinking of Fujinon 56mm + the 23mm. But now I'm considering the Viltrox 56mm instead since it's almost half the price.
But I really wanted to ask you what lens you would recommend for food photography with the X-T4?
Good question. Both 56mm and 23mm will be good for food photography on XT-4.
Viltrox lens quality is really surprisingly good.

I am a video maker, I think the viltrox would make a great video lens, to me it has a "film" like quality to it. If I was strictly photo shooter I think I would go with the Fuji.
I think it really delivers on both fronts well - it doesn't feel like a cheaper or worse lens than Fuji
Nice review, some reviewers says click at F5.6 for sharp pics, then why bother buying f1.4 lens, stop at f2.0 and most issues are mostly gone. Very nice review. Its a winner in my opinion considering price. Going to get one now.
Overall it's a very solid lens and for the price superb value for money
Why buy an f1.4 lens if you plan on stopping down to f5.6 for more sharpness?
Well, it still gives you the flexibility to have shallow depth of field for portraits or low-light shots.
I use my Viltrox 23mm f1.4 at f5.6-f8.0 for sharp images in streetbphotography and at f1.4 for low-light shooting at events.
Low light brother. Low light.
Great video. I bought the 23, 33,and 56 for my Sony A6500, and using the manual aperture for video works perfectly fine, so it may be the a characteristic of how Fuji focuses?
Thanks for sharing
Did not know about the issue with the X-Pro3. I wanted to use this lens exactly for this model. Thanks for pointing that out!!
I only found out when I was researching the lens before making the review. Very dumb design - why did they put that button so close to the lens mount??
@@PavSZ Maybe to boost there own 35mm lens? That ist exactly what I have done - buying their lens 😂
Great review! I've bought the lens and am very happy with the pictures i'm getting with it.
However, I do experience an annoying bug when using it on manual focus on my X-T20. I like to use focus peak highlight, but the aperture is not being set when turning the ring when on manual focus. It stays at 1.4f and it only sets it correctly when half-pressing the shoot button, but then the peaking is gone. Release the shoot button and you goes back to 1.4f while the screen says 2.0f. You can hear the aperture change when half-pressing the shoot button. This makes focus peaking not possible, since you'll always be peaking at 1.4f and never on a set aperture.
it could be an issue with the lens. Have you tried updating the firmware? not all firmware versions are compatible with this lens with all of the cameras - it could be issue with a version of firmware on the lens and firmware of your X-T20
@@PavSZ I found out it's not a bug, but a design choice of the camera. There is a feature you can assign to your quick buttons (continuous aperture or something) which enables constantly showing the right focus plane instead of just darkening the image to show you a resemblance of the exposure. It probably costs a lot of battery to constantly hold the lens on the set aperture since the feature will disable after taking a shot.
I'm curious if all Fuji cameras work like this.
@@rickslijkhuis6822 I'll check it next time I'm shooting with XT-4
Great video Pavel! Now that was a tongue breaker at the beginning 😁
Yes it was! haha
The new version II will be suited for the x pro 3. They fixed the issue.
Thanks! Good to know!
which one should i pick 56mm or 33mm viltrox
I have the Viltrox 23mm, 33mm and 56mm. I love the 23mm and 56mm however, the 33mm is hunting constantly in video so I am now thinking to sell it. Are you having autofocus issues with using this lens for video?
I only had it for this review. I can't say that it was really bad when I was testing it
Nice review!! I see the post on fb group!! Cheers!
Awesome thank you!
great video, I like your clear explanations of things, great pics also, and the blond model, I don`t know she is a pro, but then she have to bekome one, you have a new subscriber!
Thanks for watching!
She is an amazing country singer and she posed for me for few other reviews recently too.
Is it fitted well in fujifilm xs10? Im a little bit anxious because I dont want to damage the body. I am planning to buy one
sorry but I never used xs10 - can't advise
Thanks!!
Welcome!
What about the af-c on video mode? Nothing particulary good to say about it? Maybe that's why almost everybody prefer the Fuji 35f2 for video.
No problem with auto focus in video at all - apart from XT-4's focusing on the background and back to the person issue (not lens related). I had that with every Fuji lens that I have tried. All my video samples in the review have been filmed with AF on without any problems or surprises. Solid
@@PavSZ oh that's great! Thank you for your review buddy!
Have you tried to reduce the lateral chromatic aberration with a UV filter such as the B+W UV/IR cut?
I don't think UV filter will make much difference - this is optical design issue and it is very common with most of the lenses, even much more expensive than this
The latest firmware is divided into two versions: a dat file each for a golden version and a white silk screen mark version. It’s very confusing. Does anybody know what the difference is and which of the two files is used to drag into the viltrox drive for the update?
good question. Can anyone advise?
Official site info:
Note:This firmware is divided into two versions: golden and white silk screen mark
Firmware of golden version named as UPD3314XFV114.DAT
White silk screen version named as UPD3314XFSV114.DAT
But i want to warn about updates. At last firmwares focus became more smoother, but i have much more innacurate focus at infinity now. It doesn't hunt now, but looks like a bit missfocused in most cases. X-T2 body.
It took me a while to even realize there are two different versions of the same lense, using different colored labeling. Why are there two different versions in the first place, and which one is more recent, or are they being sold simultaneously?
This month the new Tokina atx-m 33mm f1.4
It would be nice to see a comparison
they are actually the same lenses. Tokina has got USB sockets blocked off 😕
@@PavSZ wow really? I didnt know that... its quite a disappointment
How does it compare it with Fuji native 33mm f1.4 lens recently announced?
Sorry, I had no pleasure of trying new Fuji lens yet. Can't comment
@@PavSZ No worries. Thanks for the reply 😊
The fuji 33mm is for sure the best. but not same price range
Some other Fuji reviews state that the "stepped apperture" in video is a camera related thing ... So in your opinion the performance at F1.4 is good enough? I still can't decide between the Viltrox and the Fuji F2. The Fuji is perfectly sharp at F2.
this lens is as good as fuji, I really like it ... apart from the chromatic aberration but that can be fixed easily in post
does this lense work for fuji xt20? im very new to fuji’s camera system 😅
theoretically yes
Great video 👍.... just a little thing... it’s equivalent to 49.5 mm full frame (1.5x) 👍
that's almost the same - not a difference that anyone could "feel" in the real world - good to know though 😉
😁👍
Hahaha imagine the pickiness. If we're going to be ultra picky, Fuji's crop factor is actually 1.52. Making this 50.16mm.
@@pierrezapata90 Ahh okay... 1.52, ... a little picky 😉... but thanks 🤩
Sir, fujinon xc 35mm f2 and viltrox 33mm 1.4. Which is the best choice?
Viltrox for sure!
35mm F2 for me since it has WR a has better minimum focus distance. they are equal in autocfocus and on par with image quality
@@rejiflores5660 he's talking about the xc 35mm f2, which doesn't have weather resistance
The XC 35mm f2 is good for silent focus and does a great job for shooting in sunny conditions like summer, but indoors in winter months is not fast enough for light capturing so that’s where f1.4 lenses would help.
Go for xc 35mm bro.. just checked it today.. compared with viltrox.. plus in india its 10k costlier 😁
Can you still get those famous fuji colors without a fuji lens or a lot of editing?
yes, the colours coming mostly from the camera - this lens is very well made, as good as Fuji lenses in my opinion
If I already have the fujinon 18-55mm f2.8, do you think it's worth it to have this?
Primes never create the same look as zoom at the same focal length.
This lens is good but it won't be as good quality as Fujinon lens overall
@@PavSZ thanks for your reply. So I guess skip getting this lens and just stick to my fujinon kit lens?
Give it try Viltrox telephoto 😉🤔
Know the name of the models posing in this video ??
they are just my friends. Check out my instagram for more photos
I'm currently thinking of getting the 23mm from Viltrox. Have you tried that one? I'm considering the 33mm in the future. Nice review!
Not yet! This was my first Viltrox. Thanks for watching!
It’s awesome
But same issue with close focusing
Wish it got closer
@@Nightshade1881 yeah I picked it up a few weeks ago for decent price, used. It's a very nice lens, apart from a little heavy vignetting. And yeah, a little more on the close focusing would have been nice. But hey, it's a realtively budget lens.
Is it usable on xt200.?
I never used it with XT200 - it should be ok
I do have 18-55mm kitlens. And I'm torn between this 33mm and 56mm viltrox. Anyone can help? 😅
both Viltrox lenses will be better than the kit lens. Maybe not much sharper but more versatile
@@PavSZ yeah but I'm not planning to let go of this kitlens. Just an additional portrait lens. Not replacing as I love to zoom in subjects. Just don't have bucks for zoom lens 😆
@@jamescalvinmonleon3842 you get a very good value for money with Viltrox lenses.
@@PavSZ do you think 33mm is enough for some portrait shots?
@@jamescalvinmonleon3842 it is
should i buy the 33mm or 23mm ?
Only you can answer that question
The long min focus distance is a shame. Otherwise it would be almost perfect.
I couldn't agree more
Are you satisfied with the lens? I've used the demo fuji 23 1.4 before, it was very good. Are there any serious differences? I will use it for indoor portrait photography. GYM's, Kitchens, Homes.
is this lens compatibe to canon m50?
no, this is a lens for a Fuji camera - please check Viltrox website if they have Canon compatible version
@@PavSZ thank u!!
How about for xpro2?
I'm not sure - google is your friend (or Flickr community)
@@PavSZ how about the 23mm of viltrox will that fit?
please compare this lense with xf 35mm f1.4
I might do it one day - thanks for watching
@@PavSZ my english is not so good.
i want to ask that. is this lense good for cinematography like is its autofocus good enough than xf 35mm f1.4. i recently buy xt3 and i would like to use it mostly for videos. and ( is my english right ? 😁)
Wow wow, on yours t-shirts is muar
thanks!
This is sad im using Xpro2 so the build is just the same as Xpro3 therefore its also not compatible with Xpro2(?) 🙃
I think there is a newer version of this lens that doesn't have that problem. so I was told
@@PavSZ Oh what a good news! thanks men!
Hi I have v2 of all viltrox lenses for Fuji and they have no problems i use them on the Fuji xpro 1 and xpro 2 and xt3, xe3 and xs10 and they all work great very fast autofocus and no problems.
@@katherinemuirhead1166 Yep no problem at all, I bought mine 9 mos ago
Not compatible with xpro 3???
I'd google it before thinking of buying it
@4:47 that looks painfully soft wide open.. :(
yep
How's the video af tell me
I tell you - it's OK
The chromatic aberration in video scare me
not much different than with some $5k cine lenses
that tshirt is hella ominous
why?
why the annoyinng music?
why no profile picture?
The music is really annoying and distracting.
you right! I don't know what I was thinking then - don't use music in my videos anymore for ages
