- Ever since the G87 M2 was unveiled we've had a plan in our heads to build an M2 CSL, and after driving an M4 CSL we knew our plan wouldn't be complete unless the M2 drove just like a CSL should.
To achieve our goal we're fitting almost every M4 CSL specific suspension part along with the Steering, Transmission and Diff/Traction software and a custom wheel alignment.
But have we managed to achieve our goal? Imran gets behind the wheel to see if all our hard work has paid off, and we've built an M2 CSL before BMW.

Great work guys. OEM chassis upgrades that are direct plug and play installs are my favourite as you have all of the benefits that usually come with modifications such as improved performance and handling feel with no potential downsides as the parts have been developed to the same standards as the car they are being fitted to. BMW are probably irked that you’re beating them to it! 😂
M2 is the one, the M3/M4 has got too big for my liking. This car will be a beast when you’ve squeezed more power out of it.
So true. I used to work in a scrap yard stripping cars from full to going in the crusher and some lf the heaviest volvo tanks that used to come in weigh in around 1500kg😂💀💀
Precisely. Some guys in New York already did over 1,000 horsepower with a white G87 M2. Add the new IND Distribution spoiler wing, add better rims, and the car will be amazing for a daily. Everyone is sleep on this car.
The non-xdrive version is still not the best for the streets... you need to be able to put all the power down at all times when you are on the streets.

its amazing the amount of difference i can see even just from the video. your hands are constantly moving and making steering corrections. where i fee like the standard EPS absorbs so much of the road feel/response.
The whole package has sharpened the car up immensely, removing all the numbness.
Was going to say the same thing. Imran sounds like he’s out of breath and is finding it hard to talk with the amount of wobbling from the steering wheel
I’m definitely not a bmw fan boy but I’d definitely have one off these with all your mods on if I’d ever be able to afford one , amazing the work you put in slightly modifying the cars just to make them better which in turn makes them a better drivers car than making them worse and a harsher ride 👍

The engine struct I would have power coated it in black. The car is amazing!

Not the quickest of processes but just about possible without fully removing the subframe!

How much stiffer is the front sway bars then the G87 stock sway bars? Also how much negative camber did you get from the hubs? Looking into these mods myself
I did the CS transmission tune... need the transmission mount? Part number for xDrive M4?

It’s an S58 so of course the same power people are getting in G8X M3/M4 is possible, we could swap the entire setup from our M4 in if we wished but for us the M2 is far more about handling than outright power.
Are you going to offer something similar for the M5 to get it closer to the CS from the competition?

Would you happen to have pictures of the stock and csl front bar? I am assuming the middle thin section of the csl is smaller? Also what front camber were you able to get with the hubs? Thanks in advance.
They visually looked very similar, would be interesting to get the two on a machine that can measure ARBs to see how different they are, but can definitely feel a difference.
From memory it’s around -2.5° on the front, the lower ride height will also be adding a little.

It will yes, other than the Transmission tune of course!
Wouldn’t be easier to just swap the front LCA with adjustable ones? Also, what kind of camber did you get with the CSL parts?
We use OEM parts to retain reliability and acceptable levels of NVH. There are plenty of much more track focused parts that can give more adjustability but with more maintenance required and increase NVH.
After alignment it was around -2.5°
Is the new brace in the engine compartment really needed? Or is it mainly cosmetic?
It’s part of the M4 CSL’s upgrade package but we don’t make it compulsory as part of our package

It’s just a fairly conventional ratchet spanner
Are the steering components the same between the CSL, M2, and other G8X platforms? I ask because another video talked about quicker steering between the M3 CS and normal M3 versions? Lastly, will this kit work on a manual M3 and when will it be available as a kit? I’m not looking for more power, but upgraded OEM parts that pull more handling and dynamic performance out of my car sounds really appealing. Thanks for the content!!!
Steering rack etc are identical part numbers, quicker steering feel can often be done through alignment like we have here, and also in the level of assist electronically which we’ve also done.
The CSL (and now this car) have very little dead zone that BMW most likely engineered in to the standard car to make it easier to drive for the general public.
This entire package is applicable to any RWD G8x M3/M4, and we’ve just done a similar one to our xDrive G81 M3 based on the M3 CS setup.

You should do an objective test to help convey the performance increase. Something like a lap time with sector analysis around Bedford west circuit or similar. Do a stock run, then with the ‘csl’ kit added..
In an ideal world yes, but that’s prohibitively expensive and would be fairly hard to get true comparative data without hiring a professional driver and having 2 cars

Amazing build! Is there any reason you guys did not load the CSL Suspension settings along with the rest of the CSL software?
The EDC settings are going to take more development to work correctly, as whilst there are a lot of similarities between the two cars software not everything is the same.
As soon as it can be done we will. Already loaded them on our G81 M3, video coming in the future on that 😉
@@EvolveAutomotive Gotcha, thanks for a quick reply! I've loaded it on my base g80 and am still deciding if I want to keep it or revert back. It's definitely stiffer which is great for the track but not so sure about the street if you know what I mean.
Truth be told the standard EDC settings on these cars is really good, so we’ll do more back to back testing to be able to advise customers correctly.
All of the CSL software sharpens the car and focuses it more towards outright driving
How different is the dyno chart with the new SW? This is a great video, was considering waiting for the 2025 since it's rumored to have 20 more HP, but if its possible to get my foot in the door now and get more power via SW, I'm game!
This is not about more power but changes to the traction, differential, steering and gearbox software.
@@EvolveAutomotive Interesting, I mis-understood that. On the initial dyno run on the other M2 video, you compare the differences on the chart, is it possible to get the same power curve on the M2 as the M3 or M4? Knowing traction will be an issue.. . Would 500 HP be possible via SW only? (or some increase over stock that's reasonable on 93 octane). Love your content. I love the M4 engine rebuild and upgrade video. Can't wait to follow along on the M2. Ordering one soon!
Yes with a remap we can give the M2 the exact same dyno graph/power delivery of the M3. We'll be showing this in a video soon!

Can you flash the softwares without ECU unlock?
The software doesn’t touch the engine ECU, so no unlock is needed.
What software and hardware tools are these guys using to flash all that CSL software?
Hardware wise it’s an ENET to OBD cable and a windows computer, we can do it remotely or in house
Very interesting! Are you planning on offering this "conversion kit"? I am just wondering tho, if it's easier/cheaper to directly go with some after market parts instead to achieve the same (or even better) result. Yeah its nice to have original BMW parts on it, but I am pretty sure there is companies who can over the same for less or more for the same, if you know what I mean?!
And, I think you should get a proper suspension (Hello KW V4 racing), if you really wanna improve the driving dynamics;)
We offer it on our website yes - aftermarket alternatives are possible but are often more track focused with sacrifices in NVH and increased maintenance schedule which is why we chose to go the OEM route.
No plans to replace the advanced EDC dampers and MSS Hybrid setup at this point.
Is it hard or easy to enable the csl software on the steering wheel?

I recon the G87 M2 doesn't share the same steering parts with the G42 M240i, however is it possible to load the steering software of the G87 to a G42?
It’s unlikely as the base software will be quite different, someone might be able to modify the software to produce similar effects, but the hardware is making a big part of the difference here
How is the engine supported during the engine mount swap?
By an engine support brace in the engine bay

I know this isn't supposed to be a DIY / how-to video but those mounts look very similar to the B58TU mounts . I was wondering , could i do the same on a G42 to increase the engine stiffness ? Also , was the engine supported from above when the engine mounts were removed - i would expect so , but it really seemed like there wasn't any so i can't wrap my head around what was holding the engine in place .
It was supported by an engine brace from above yes, we would never undo subframe mounts without the engine being correctly supported.
Cannot answer you on G42 fitment but possibly.

This voids the suspension warranty correct?
Yes it does, any modification can affect your warranty
Where is ceramic brakes?
I find it very interesting that your guys know the correct torque specs and use torque wrenches, but they don’t seem to know that any fasteners in suspension joints that are binding a rubber bushing, or similar, should be tightened with the car in the wheels and the suspension loaded…
Have you heard of a transmission jack? All suspension components that require it are done at the correct position by jacking an individual corner up using one.
Saying that, we didn’t touch any rubber bushings and it’s sort of the point of the video, removing one of the last ones to spherical! But we still follow the same practice as part of habit.

Adjustable top mounts would be another way to add the camber but come at the expense of added NVH and increased maintenance required.
BMW AG will do the same and put in price another +25k on top of normal M2

Although, i own a 22 BMW M4 Comp in Brooklyn Grey, I'm definitely not a BMW Fan boy. The open front grill and the looks of the 2dr was the reason for the purchase. The M2 or any previous BMW no thanks. It's just my opinion.

Why make it drive like another car? M2 is M2, M4 is M4. If you want one of the other, get it. Each car was made for its own purpose.
We have a M4 CSL. What we have done is effectively what BMW will do on the M2 CS. Are you going to say the same thing about that car when it comes out?
