Look Yamaha you have garnered interest in this bike. But people are tired of waiting. Release it before the 790 Adventure or you might as well scrap the project.

Lol...I have been holding off on buying a middleweight dual sport bike because I am a yamaha fan. If it doesn't look like this prototype I'll look at Honda or KTM. I'm not interested in a street bike with knobby tires.

This is the bike we all have wanted in many years. Lightweight agile adventure bike
But, is it REALLY an adventure bike? All we've SEEN so far is a big ass enduro. No panniers. No 3 weeks worth of gear on the bike. Just riding around doing the same stuff you can do on a WR250, playing in the desert.
Ktm’s customer base is continuing to grow, BECAUSE they actually HAVE the bikes they promote in short order

I'm not the first person to write a comment like this. But after now 3 Tenere´s and years of waiting I am tired of seeing new teasers again and again. What can be so hard to finally bring a bike into the shops? Will Yamaha equip the Tenere with an automatic transmission that no one needs and increases the weight? Since the release of the MT07 it is clear that a Tenere must come. I forgot how long ago that was. For me it is clear: If I can't drive a T7 at the beginning of next year, I'll be sitting on an AT next year.

i picked up a tiger 800 solely due to the fact I had no idea when this thing would be released. I would have kept my gixxer thou until release if there was a firm date.
all this fucking around with elaborate marketing and a definite vapourware feel of the bike caused me to buy the triumph, and zero regrets.

It sounds almost like a single & looks great, but I would like to see a 'stock'version of this as this is what I would realistically be having. Like so many riders; I think it's fair to say that the majority of my touring/ riding will be on-road & although it's good to know that it has some racing pedegree/ potential & can actually go off-road, I'd like to know if the saddle will be kinder to me on long distances & if there will be the option of aluminium top box & panniers, etc. as with the 660 thumper. I do agree that the window of opportunity is rapidly closing & that my interest is waning & re-directing towards other brands- Come on Yamaha!

Many companies do this long term teasing thinking it will grow interest...and it does to some extent. But after a while, as you can see in the comments, people get frustrated and move on to another product. Also the longer you make customers wait, the higher the expectations will be. I'm sure it's going to be a good bike and they'll sell plenty, but they will most likely have lost many sales to other alternatives, and as others have said KTM has the adventure 790 coming out which will be it's most direct competitor. Though I wouldnt compare the reliability of KTM with Yamaha, they sure know how to make fun bikes.
Lo malo de adelantar un prototipo tan guapo y alargar su presentación hasta hacerla algo absurda, es finalizar todo con un modelo que no cubra las expectativas generadas. Espero que la moto definitiva no difiera demasiado de este proto y el precio sea lógico y razonable, lo que no sucedía con la tenere 660 en sus últimos años.

Aquino Benites Also check the BMW F850. Great machine. Not as comfortable as the Africa Twin and the suspension is not as good, but has other points on favour. Overall on par with the AT.
I ended up buying an AT even after waiting for this, trust me, you won’t look back..

I'm both a BMW and Honda customer, no fanboy here, my personal experience tells me the BMW original parts being ultra expensive is a myth. I've even found it to be cheaper original than aftermarket. Labour is another story.
bmw and honda = same price.... maybe. Quantity of parts required : BMW needs more of them !

Nice Pics, i have been there with an Xt. Never understand what yamaha marketing is doing, since even Honda sells again adventure bikes. And don't forget; add heating grips and dct. :-)

Is yamaha going to spark a 700cc war with this bike? I kind of hope so. I was never going to spend the money on a GS or full Teneré. The smaller version looks like so much fun and hopefully under 200kg.

Basically he loves the desert and had a ténéré When he was young and this is a bike that he loves the same way as that but it's a bike for new generation and that it will allow you to travel the world. He also loves riding in the dunes and the wind and the sand.

É, mas enquanto a Yamaha brinca de lançamento da Ténéré 700, deixo de esperar tanto por ela pra comprar uma V-STROM 650! A mais de um ano que a Ténéré 660 saiu de linha e eu aguardo a 700 ser lançada, com essa demora a Yamaha só tem a perder, sem contar que até agora só tem falado da versão enduro e nada da Big trail comercial, sendo assim tá sendo difícil esperar tanto! Vai ser o jeito pegar a V-STROM 650 mesmo!
