Oh my god, Story #12 is straight out of Matilda! “A book? Whatd’ya want a book for?” “To read.” “To read?? Why would you want to read when you’ve got the television set sitting right in front of you? There’s nothing you can get from a book that you can’t get from a television faster!” Bro, her parents were supposed to be cartoonishly ignorant and anti-intellectual (and abusive, at least by modern standards), and there’s people out there legit reenacting that scene with their own kids.

Some of the male dancers in my dance troupes had these dads with old fashioned, out of touch attitudes towards their sons being dancers (especially in ballet). We had the occasional dad disrupting rehearsals, classes, or theater intermissions by bursting in and going on the whole “I have no son!” angry ranting and raving. It was hell for the male dancers, having to endure that from their dads.

I HATE when the bystanders say, “SoMeOnE sHoUld CaLl CPS”. As though that someone shouldn’t be them for some reason. Some of these stories piss me off, because I know how kids with parents like these turn out and it makes me sick. If I was given an opportunity to aid the children I would take it, not just hope someone else does something about it, meanwhile these children are getting abused in ways that they will feel the effects of for the rest of their life.

@@Nevertoleaveunfortunately a lot of the times the cops are useless in situations like that. my dad once called the cops on woman after she had been screaming at and manhandling her kid in this really weird way in the parking lot of a store, saying how she wished she never had kids and crap, but all the cop would say was "welll you should of called while it was happening" and "haha my parents would yell at me when i was that age too, kids are a handful", essentially (maybe unintentionally) gaslighting my dad into questioning if he was overeacting to the situation......

She should have minded her own business when it has gone to the extreme. When it was easy, she did not attend when difficult, she wanted to be the hero. @@azamjapar4789 incorrect, there is no point in involving oneself in a mild situation as the parent has not fully demonstrated they are incompetent yet. However, if they become aggressive and childishly take their frustration out on the one they are supposed to protect, this is a clear sign intervening is necessary for the sake of the child. This is because a parent not capable of holding their temper from hurting their child demonstrates they are not capable of raising a child as they are too immature.

I was in the supermarket. There was a woman with a little boy. The woman was yelling at someone on her phone while the kid was karate kicking cans on the lower shelves. The woman was apparently oblivious to what the kid was doing. Then the woman just walked away and left the kid. After a short time, the woman returned. She grabbed the kid by the arm. She began yelling obscenities as she dragged him away. The kid had made a substantial mess. A lot of cans he kicked had fallen off the shelf and were on the floor. The woman never tried to pick anything up or correct the kid for kicking the cans. All she did was yell at him for not following her when she had left.

When I was around 15 years old, I had to spend a few days in the local children’s hospital. I was in a ward with several other children. There was a toddler in a crib that was like a cage. The toddler would sometimes become agitated. The kid would bounce off the bars and shake them like you apes do in movies. This was in the days before HIPAA. The ward nurse told my mom and dad that the toddler’s mom was a junkie. Someone found out that she was giving the kid narcotics to keep him quiet. CPS took the kid and had him admitted to the hospital The reason the kid would become agitated is because he was going through withdrawal.

Live in an apartment complex with a common wall for one set of buildings and another. Well we had a family move into the unit behind mine and basically decided that their kids right to play sports trumped my right of quiet enjoyment despite the fact I worked 3rd shift. For 3 months I had asked nicely and respectfully for them to stop but they ignored me. I was getting less than 4 hours of sleep a day from this before I finally snapped. I told their dad straight up that if this continued I was going to go insane due to lack of sleep, and really did not want to start cussing out their kids. He finally seemed to understand what was going on and got them to thankfully stop. Oh and their method of 'playing' was throwing balls and toys against my bedroom wall all day making it sound like a door was being slammed right next to my bed.

There are lots of ways to disapline your kids. But you don't want to hear them, you only hear what you wanna hear. You can't hear 1 or 2 stories of people doing something and assume everyone has to do it, because there are more than 1 or 2 people in the country. That's called confirmation bias.

Our family was in the process of readying our new house to move into. A Relative of ours came to “help” with her two boys, 10 and 4. As we’re moving in we have trucks driving on and off the property throughout the whole day, so we reminded her that she needs to keep an eye on her boys if they’re outside cause all everybody else was too busy to babysit them. Especially the youngest cause he started thinking it was funny crisscrossing the driveway when he’s sees cars coming in. Fortunately up till this point in time all the vehicles were driving around slowly cause of the equipment and boxes. So lo and behold every time we warn her she goes “sure, sure. I’ll get him in just a sec.” Then proceed to go back to talking the ears off anyone that is within speaking distance.
My brother was due to come help out. A few things to know about my brother is that despite his towering build (a bit past 6’5”) and intimidating face structure his one of the most soft spoken, easygoing, ready to jump in and lend a hand and a pacifist by nature. Think giant grizzly bear that’s a cuddle bug.🐻🥰 Not a mean boar in his body.
What he’s also known for his led foot when with his car…..
So, I wasn’t at all surprised to hear his muscle car roaring into the driveway. But what was shocking is to hear screeching tires and a car horn being laid into. Running to a window, I yell for my cousin to asking her where her youngest is?
I don’t think I finished asking before the little hellion came running to the house to behind his mother’s legs.
By now everyone that was there has gathered by the entryway to find out what was going on. Shortly after the car horn go’s quit you hear my brother stopping up the walkway and into the house below my cousin name.
Another thing about my brother is that my brother is not one to quickly anger. One of the calmest and level head people if ever known. It’s downright impossible to get him visibly mad. Anyone who really knows him knows that if he’s yelling it’s cause he has a dame good reason to be yelling and it’s best to let him yell to let that storm out of his system.
My brother marched right up to my cousin with all the potential danger of rumbling thunder towering over her much smaller (just about 5foot)” form, to inform her that he was feet away from crushing her son as he decided to once again cross the driveway in front of a car for kicks.
As mad or frightening as my brother could get he never resorted to violence, but you could easily get the impression he can turn you into a bloody smear on the ground.
My cousin stutters out that he should just lecture her boy (like everyone else has been doing after reminding her cause we all saw she wasn’t going to do anything about him) or spank him to get him to stop.
I saw I saw spite fly when my brother yelled at her at his loudest “It’s not anyone else’s place to watch, punish or PARENT your kids when you come to supposedly HELP and everyone is too busy to babysit! THAT’S YOUR JOB AS HIS MOTHER!”
My cousin scrambled to gather her thing and kids to leave. Once they were gone my brother looked like he deflated. Sigh out whatever was left of his rage. He apologized to the rest of us that were still there for have gotten so mad. We all jumped up to tell him he dad not he to be sorry about that something was bound to happen and it would have been my cousin fault if it had not him. It took a couple of days for him to shake off the scare that he nearly ran over a kid. It only took a couple of hours and a few beers to get over lecturing our cousin.
It was a few months before she sheepishly started working her way back into the family gatherings again. Her kids were still little terrors at times but thankfully they grew out of that the more time they spent with responsible adults.

My dad was artistic but always drew macho things like female nudes because my grandfather had convince him that drawing was gay. I guess that somehow made it ok. This is in reference to #13

Since when is drawing homosexual? Does he not realize that the comic book industry is full of straight men? This includes manga too. Not to mention straight men in animation too.
My guess is the dad is just a straight homophobe and that's his go to word. Or possibly anything he doesn't like is gay.

More like the later since the problem here is that he confused making art with a se*ual act with another person.... The guy, imo is clearly insane for such thoughts and needs to go to a mental facility. Maybe a therapist so he can get these issues resolved since it was most likely taught to him by his parents at some point...

A lot of Conservative people use the word 'gay' to mean 'thing I don't like'. Similar to how in American discourse the word 'Communist' is normally used as an insult.

When I was around 12 I was invited to a friend's house to spend a few days during the Summer. We lived pretty distant from each other and we couldn't meet often, so I was very excited to spend some days with her. That was until I got a glimpse into the family dynamics.
Her mother was constantly shouting at her for the smallest things. She was even insulting her, calling her a b*tch and so on. I remember one instance whenf we were hanging out in the kitchen and her mother came in and got angry at my friend for allegedly eating some food she had put in the fridge. My friend kept tellinf her she hadn't eaten it, but the mother refused to listen and kept shouting and insulting her. We had been together the entire day and I knew she hadn't eaten the food, but I was too scared to say anything.
My family is far from perfect, but I was shocked at the way this mother treated her daughter and the entire situation made me very uncomfortable. When my mum came to pick me up, I was so happy it was over!
Thinking about it as an adult, I feel really bad for that poor girl.
I don't remember what happened exactly, but we stopped being friends not long after that Summer.

I went to a Christmas party and my friend came with her adult daughter and 13 year old grand daughter. When the grand daughter took off her long coat she was wearing a tube top and mini skirt. This girl was a big girl and she already had very big boobs so her attire was very inappropriate. She immediately lit up a cigarette….in a non smoking home and threw a fit when she was told to go outside. She demanded an alcoholic drink and again threw a fit when she was told no. Her grandmother was so embarrassed but her mother just laughed and tried to hand her daughter her own drink but the home owner took it away and told them to leave. They refused until my friend, the grandmother, grabbed them both and insisted they put on their coats and leave. Later my 10 year old grand daughter told me that the girl had bragged about having sex with several older men who gave her drugs. I later told my friend, she sighed, tears flowing and said that Child Welfare had been called repeatedly but nothing had ever been done because, as they said, she wasn’t being starved, beaten, abused and had a bed and there were other kids worse off. Luckily the girl did straighten out after she had her own child and people say she is an excellent mother.

The mother in the first story was wrong, but the commentary on a 14yo girl's outfit was frankly unnecessary and irrelevant. I felt disgusted at OP talking about this child's "cleavage" and butt, and shaming the mother by implying that an actual child was dressed in a sexually provocative way. Come on, now

Where'd all the parents go? In case you haven't been paying attention, you can't be a parent anymore. Any form of discipline, and CPS is called. You can't spank you can't ground you can't yell you can't even look at your kid wrong without it being considered abuse anymore and you can thank the hippie generation for that. So that's where the parents have gone.
