METOLIUS MAGIC | Late Fall Fly Fishing for Native Trout on one of Oregon's Most Beautiful Rivers

- Ben Dobler, his girlfriend Amy and I spent a few days camping and fly fishing for native trout on arguably one of Oregon's most beautiful rivers, the Metolius River.
We parked the trucks and Four Wheel Campers in a nice spot above the river and proceeded to test our luck over the next few days. I probably should have filmed more, but honestly this place has a way of drawing you in and keeping you memorized and captivated by its beauty.
The weather was perfect for it being late fall and we took full advantage of the sunshine and pleasant temps, knowing that the rain would be upon us soon.
Fish were caught, memories were made and the magic of that river cast its spell on us as it always does. Even as I type this out now, I'm ready to be back there on another adventure.

I moved to Bend in 1979 and lived there through the early 80’s. I crawled all over those lava beds and ran the shores of the Deschutes. I loved the Metolious!
It’s such a beautiful place. I first fished it in the 80’s and it still never ceases to amaze me. Cheers!

Yeah that's a super fun one. The fish seem to love those big bugs. Mine is the later Green Drake hatch. I missed it this year, but will be out there for it next year for sure!
Awe, one of my favorite rivers to fish. Did you get into green drakes?
Unfortunately we didn't. We were there at the tail end of the hatch and while we saw a few during the day, the fish weren't really interested in them.
