Massive waterspout spotted off the coast of the Florida Keys

- Severe thunderstorms brought hail to South Florida today, and a waterspout off the Florida Keys.
Cell phone footage shot by Tom Gibson was visible from the beach in Islamorada.

Go ahead a stand right in the path of a Fairweather Waterspout if it hits land while they won't cause considerable destruction I've observed these on Lake Erie over 80 of them I've seen them tear up trees, docks, boats and cause damage to buildings so if your standing under a tree and a huge branch falls because of wind damage from a Fairweather Waterspout what do you think that branch will do if I falls on a person??? You might want to rethink your position on them
@@wm3293that’s what’s called as a “tornadic waterspout” and fair weather waterspouts can only cause minor damage to ships and when it reaches land it dies
@@wm3293it’s practically impossible for fair weather waterspouts to even reach land, and even if it did it would dissipate really quickly once it got close to the shore, if this was a tornadic waterspout there would be a huge thunderstorm storm with it making it incredibly unsafe to be in the water
@SlushysSecret I've seen it happen enough on Lake Erie so yes Fairweather Waterspouts can hit land briefly

The shear height of waterspouts is generally the terrifying part, to have something like that put the height of the clouds to the ground/ocean into perspective is the scary aspect. Generally with land tornados there’s obstructions.. buildings, hills, trees, etc etc. Just adding that in. Been caught up in several whirlwinds (over cement) that are pretty scary when you can’t see it coming too. Lol

It’s just a fair weather waterspout. Nothing to be concerned about. They are impressive to look at, but ones this small are not dangerous
