Hey mate, I’d class myself as an professional DIYER because I’m a heating engineer and pick things up from other trades. So around the house doing things like electrics, woodworking ect I find second nature.
But…
I’ve got to admit I’m planning on turning my loft into a hobby room and I’m finding the whole process a little daunting. To the point I’m loosing sleep over it 🤦🏼♂️ I do that when I’ve got too much on my mind!
However, after watching your video I’m going to take your advice about writhing the whole process down and getting some kind of plan going. The bit when you said “don’t think of it as one big job but lots of little projects” really hit home to me.

I’m so glad to hear that! To be fair, I often wake up at odd hours thinking about random furniture or reno projects 😅 Writing them down, or drawing a quick sketch, usually helps.

Another great video. My day job is a product manager and it all revolves around value, and yes, roadmaps can get way too complicated. I'm looking forward to your Semi Complete series too, I'm in the same boat with lots of house projects lined up, each with dependencies and constraints (mainly money) and a project manager (my wife) who is yet to get to grips with prioritisation :-) It's good fun though, and seeing it all take shape is the best reward.
I think the other point to mention about roadmaps is that they can change, and should be reviewed regularly to get the most value.

Snap! The product mindset is hard to beat, but I think lots of people see home improvement as “everything everywhere, all at once” or tackle it a bit randomly.

Helps when u marry an interior designer oh and have a good joiner m8 thats bit mental between them to usally runs to cost me fortune and project list as long as my arm. 🏴👍 also with regards to if your wanting redo your kitchen look at usinh the existing carcass of the kitchen and you could then face it with nice wood! Just idea.
Cheers Mike. I’m always a bit envious of people who are forced, I mean who have the joy, of being given jobs to do 😅. Takes the stress of planning away - you just get to do the building! Though, I think I’m 50/50 in terms of enjoyment from designing and making.

I did watch the whole video and my response was, you can right out buy your dream house if you can afford it or just purchase a house and turn it into your dream house which is going to take time and money. I am not good with DIY or do I have the patience to do it. So I right out purchased the house I wanted. I admire those that are good at building or DIY.
