I’m a Mets fan so I feel objective here. With his stats, glove, heady play, leadership, consistency and 5 rings, how does anyone say he’s not the epitome of a HOF lock? With the steroids and sign stealing scandals, Jeter is in ANOTHER class in my opinion! God speed Jeets

I'll second that comment. Been a Mets fan since '83. Tried as I might to hate the Yankees and everything associated with them, I just couldn't do it with Jeter. A cinch to make it and I wouldn't be angry if he were a unanimous choice

I don't know if you watched the video only five players in the history of baseball have more hits than Derek Jeter. Numbers don't paint the whole picture. Some guys look better than they are based on stats and other guys are underrated because numbers and data aren't everything. Jeter made the plays he needed to make. He might not have had the longest range or the strongest arm but he was still a great shortstop who was very consistent, a leader as captain of the team, and most importantly in a clutch moment you knew you could count on him. Defense might have been the weakest part of his game sure. But he wasn't a poor defensive player by any means. His career speaks for itself.

It's crazy that in this day and age, with so much that analytics has done, and proven, that people still doubt analytics, or even understand what its true purpose is! What these guys fail to realize is that Derek Jeter is the absolute perfect example of an analytics player. If someone were to run the numbers on Jeter, early in his career, his analytics would have been off the charts! Derek Jeter is exactly the kind of player that analytics would have recommended to any team early in his career when he wasn't a household name. A player who didn't seem to have that one monstrous part of his game, but enough of all his other tools to become more than an asset and possibly even a Hall of Famer someday! These talking heads fail to realize that the purpose of analytics, mostly, is to find players who get on base. Derek Jeter was exactly that, a player who got on base a lot! Shit, it might have been some kind of analytics that brought him to Yankees in the first place. Someone watched him play and saw enough of what he did to place him on the big stage. They realized that he did not have a home-run bat but he had enough of his other tools and HE GOT ON BASE!! That is analytics, boys!

The streak was largely based on luck. I mean Jeter hurt his shoulder in a freak play and he broke his ankle on a simple ground ball. None of which he had control over or was the reason of lack of taking care of his body. Not to mention the way the game is managed now players are sat down for anything that may possibly risk further injury.
I respect the streak, but that in and of itself is not a just statistic to measure someone’s greatness.

I’ve heard he can walk on water, then also he is responsible for saving every child in the world’s life that were rescued from house fires. He wasn’t even there and his spirit ran in and saved them. Also he can fly. Idk if you all knew this but Jeter has the ability to fly and transport whenever he would like. Ive heard he also never sleeps. His body doesn’t require it, he just sits down from time to time for about 5 minutes and that’s all the rest he needs. By far the strongest man that ever lived too. He’s so unbelievable, just the greatest human thats ever graced us with his presence. Actually I misspoke, he’s not human even I’ve heard. He like a cyborg mixed with a God. It’s unbelievable. He was a good player, but since he played for the Yankees, they hyped him up. Would he have the same numbers in last place teams, no. He was a product of the Yankees and ESPN And everyone knows it. What, he did not cheat, please. Come on man.

What made jeter one of best players ever was not is numbers but what he did was did what ever needed to do to win. Whether it was a single a double a HR a bunt or a great defensive play. He did it . Baseball these days everyone is going for HR its disgusting

2:21 "He won five Gold Gloves but nobody would say he was the greatest defensive shortstop of all time." No, unfortunately with baseball's modern metrics - DRS as the end-all gold standard (and now OAA), it's hard to fathom but Jeter turns out to be the worst defensive shortstop of his era, and probably all time. But, Kay is describing what makes Jeter great - 100 percent effort, all day, every day, his welcoming supporting persona, countless times pulling off the big play at just the right moment. His offense was out standing and his ability to get the big hit in critical situations was uncanny - and, he led every other player of his era in BA with runners in scoring position. He is a true HOFer. There are a lot of the "good guys" in baseball, Jeter probably influenced them. More should be like him. Congrats on a great career.
