Days Gone - Easy Allies Review

- Standing out from the ravenous zombie genre, Days Gone brings a lot of heart and massive open-world freaker hordes. It's ambitious in the length of its campaign and the size of its map, but some things just don't work as they should. *Review Copy Provided by PlayStation

I think for a tiny studio, they've done very well. I love the game.
Sounds like wait a month or two for some patches will greatly improve this game
Yeah.. and expensive also on day one..
I wait for every game, month or 2 it'll be half price on psn
Definitely the best approach.
Agreed
@@jadenepia5960 before fallout 76 and BFV games used to take months or years to drop to half price not a few days
The game aside, I just have to say that this kind of script and narration is still hands down my favorite of all video reviews.
The Gametrailers legacy lives on and I couldn't be happier about this.
An unexpected end to the Force Unleashed Trilogy
Starkiller Jedi: Fuel Order
Whaha
Oh shit I didn’t realize it was the same actor till I saw your comment lol
Give it a couple patches and will probably be worth a check-a-look.
patches arent gonna fix its lack of creativity
@@sam-lj3rz True. But hey, it doesn't need to break the mold to be fun.
What's a check-a-look? Lol
@@sam-lj3rz it is both creative and a copy it's honestly impressive
@@sam-lj3rz for me is original, my only worry was numbers of freakers affecting fps or glitches like Rdr2 was with horse

Well, he was moving! 🤣
@@skeetys81 Thanks, you're quite right. A typo on my part
People need to stop expecting God of War quality game Sony Bend is a far smaller studio that have never made a PS4 game before only PS1, PS2 and Vita plus it’s the completely new IP with the horde system really pushing the PS4s hardware to its max this game is a solid 7 to 8 out of 10 and that’s exactly what I expected.
^ this 👌
Finally someone who appreciates the effort bend studio put into this. For their first attempt at a game of this magnitude they did pretty good to me, if this becomes a franchise they’re definitely gonna do waaay better
Far Smaller studio? Sony Santa Monica has 200 employees and Sony Bend has 135, which qualifies both as big Triple A game studios, although still smaller than the biggest AAA game studios out there. In fact, Corey Balrog himself defined Santa Monica as a "not so big AAA studio". Days Gone it's a AAA first party Playstation game developed with a bigger budget than Uncharted 4 which makes the game a huge disappointment. Not only it did a lot less than other open world games but it did it far worse too. It's ok if you end up making a 7.5 game(this is a 6.5 at best) but at least make it something unique that you can't really find elsewhere on the market or at least on PS.
Fuzzy Dunlop Funny but 69% of reviewers gave it an 80 or above so how is that 6.5 at best.
Dude you're going into every comment thread to bash the game just stop.
I never thought I would say this, but this game with all of its problems is really enjoyable and great game and I mean it!
I bought this game last week and started playing it. After maybe 5 hour, I wasn't sure if I want to play it more ( I said to myself: buying this game was a mistake), but I played it and than after few more hours I couldn't stop playing!
Yes, this game has its problem but the good things about it are very stronger than the bad things and I loved the story, every character in the game (except one) I loved that it's a long game and the fact that after hours of playing the game introduces you to new area, new enemies, and much more.
First I suggest everyone, who wants to try it don't hesitate and second if you can start the game on hard difficulty, Man it make the game more intense (after killing a larg horde on hard, I was so happy like I killed Father Gascoigne from Bloodborne) I really can't wait for the Days Gone 2.
8 out of 10 for me, but a really great 8.
5:13 - runs through flamethrower path and isn't harmed... WAT
yea a lot of things need to be patched asap. it really breaks the immersion.
Yeah I saw that to. Was like wtf
The flamethrowers hitbox is further within the Flames not the starting point it seems or you need to linger near it more than 2 seconds to take lol
I just want to ride alone in the post apocalypse. I know people hate games that don’t “innovate”, but for me Solid Gameplay + Atmosphere = Win.
Modern conceptual art innovates: and most of it is garbage.
It doesn't have solid gameplay, the shooting mechanics are mediocre and the A.I. is really bad. It's incredibly repetitive and empty overall.
@@FuzzyDlop says the person that hasn't played it in over a year well before final version. Not saying your completely wrong but definitely not taking your word for it. Especially over reviewers that have played recently. Looks ok. Hard to justify day one unless bored I'll give it a go.
I love this game so much. My cup of tea 100%
@@LoomisPC I actually beat it! Fun but bad pacing and several hours to long. 10 hours shorter would of been nice. But inhad fun and def got my money's worth. The audio issues were quite frustrating as well.
This is the best review I’ve seen.
I don’t understand why a lot of reviewers say the story isn’t very good. I was gripped and really enjoyed it. I hope there’s a sequel, It needs one. This game surprised me and became one of my favourites of this generation. Also, the soundtrack is pretty good!
I guess the twist of this zombie game is hordes and angst.
8:25 Scariest part of the game.
What about 9:05
8:25 is super funny!
YES! I am CHOKING AND SCREAMING at all these bugs. LOL!
you suppose to be talking to me on a walkie, I look over and you fighting a horde.
Where your voice coming from chief?!
wow, you pointed out more problems than anybody else and yet is the higher score i've seen, gr8 review 10x
I also felt this score was way to generous. More of a 6.5 if you ask me.
@@arkiststark seemed about right to me. i havent played the game and neither have you, but i thought it looked really cool. the bugs aren't game breaking like fo76, and the rest of the game seems interesting, if not quite smooth. sounds like good not great to me
@Frankie Basile I'm sorry if I was misunderstood. From what I've heard in the review I would've thought they'd give It a 6.5. Because there were a lot of criticisms.
@@arkiststark I was expecting a 7.5 by the time the review ended. It sounded like Brandon would have liked to give it an 8.5, and while technical issues hold it back, there is enough to like to have this game swimming in 7s.
Frankie Basile a 9 😂😂😂
Good job Jones, I'm actually more interested in this title after watching the vid. Not a Day One purchase for sure but I think with a few patches this could become a welcome surprise.
yea seems like a few bug/technical patches and this game is easily an 8.5
Agreed. Jones being all in about a game and giving minimal criticism like for RDR2 made it really hard for me to fully "trust" his reviews after.
Seeing the good and the bad, helps me make an informed decision. I know what I am getting into and grabbing this baby tonight!
Just got it after launch , seems like they patched it like crazy , playing it with no bugs or frame drops
Don’t miss out its really good . The internet’s wrong on this one .if you like zombies , last of us ,open world get it !
It will be the gem of 2019 think mad max
@@origosis what you need to do is play this game for a few days, then switch to rdr2. you will realize how much higher rdr2 is when it comes to open world games. since they have similar ideas. if rdr2 is a 9,this game is a 3.5. its easier to list what's not wrong with this game than pointing out the flaws. its a disconnected mess, which makes it impossible to enjoy. I tried to like it,couldnt continue after about 8 hours. no bug fixes will help because bugs are not the main problem. its simply broken. Think of it like a few guys in garage trying to put a Ferrari together and nothing works on the car the way it should but they sell it at Ferrari price anyway
Just finished this game.
10/10 and in my top 5 games of all time.
This seems like it’ll be a grower-over-time game. Met at launch with a middling critical response, doesn’t sell great but then develops a big cult following a year or 2 later.
Nope, it's not Dying Light which is an actual good game with fantastic post-game support. This is just bad, boring and empty.
@@FuzzyDlop If no mans sky came back. This shit can too nbs
@@FuzzyDlop Your agenda is uninspiring. If you really want to try and turn people away from Days Gone...just don't buy the game and don't give the developer your money. Let others form their own opinion.
It's obvious, with your replies being a steady negative affair, that you're just trying to bring this game down. It's okay, dude. It's just a video game.
Jones taking jabs at Huber by adding the clip of him shooting a bear.
C'mon Jones. Just let him be. No quarrel
Great review Jones. Always unbiased, neutral, but still exciting over the parts that get you going. Keep it up!
I am rooting for this game because the same guys made the PHENOMENAL Resistance Retribution for the PSP
Resistance Retribution was one of coolest games on PSP.

They're not underrated.
Ow I got flashbacks of Grayson's dialogue in that game, absolutely loved it!
Yeah and the phenomenal Bubsy 3D too
@@dreamerabe He's right though most ppl who played syphon filter consider them stone cold classics. the series sold very well since there's like 5 or 6 of them made hardly underrated.
Sons of Redemption with Zombies :D
Jokes aside, had the glitches and bug fixes beforehand Jones might gave this a 8.5 or 9, seeing that he enjoyed this open world premise and its gripping story.
So its Mad Max meets World War Z! Hells yeah!!
Yeah the Mad Max side of it is appealing to me a lot.
No, Mad Max is actually better than this; the world of Mad Max might be just as empty as this but Mad Max has actual survival elements(casual ones) that simply do not exist in Days Gone. Driving is also a lot better in Mad Max.
@@FuzzyDlop Chill, he talking about gameplay comparison
Shame people forgot ride to hell retribution.
Fuzzy Dunlop you must not have a lot to do since I’ve seen you commenting on several reviews with nothing but negativity.
You clearly haven’t played the game because the world is full of shit. Criticize whatever you want but claiming one of its biggest strong points in the world is empty is objectively incorrect.
Days Gone has everything I was expecting so far, I’m 8 hours in.
what do you think of it
Im definitely picking it up! There will be updates for bugs or glitches.
Just found your review. I like your review style. Thank you so much for this, I am gonna pull the trigger for this game. Suits my playing style, single player and zombies. . . sold. Couple bugs makes the open world fun lol. Thank you!
Just finished the story, played the game for 80 hours so far, did most of the side stuff. I feel like there should be follow up reviews these days with games getting patches and stuff. Yes, it should have been less buggy at launch, but the game seems very different from the state it was in here. Especially on PS5, the game looks so awesome, runs butter smooth and the story plus open world are great. It's like Mad Max meets last of us. Though it was weird throughout the game Deacon is Starkiller xD also, anybody remember the diplomat Phoebe dated on friends who didn't know English ("plate?")? That's Boozer 😅
Thanks for the honest review Jones! Still looks like a lot of fun seems much like a FarCry, you either love this kind of thing or hate it
I'm excited it looks like a blast lol
Agreed. I felt some Far Cry vibes, too. Definitely a skip for me, personally.
Much better than far cry. I say that as a far cry fan. The story in this is top notch. The world building and characters actually have depth in Days Gone.
I love all far cry games from 1 to 5 and days gone is fun for me. There are some glitches here and there but didnt ruin my enjoyment.
@@midnightshade32 You probably don't know many good stories or characters in games. The reviewer here and pretty much everyone so far said the dialogue is horrible.
Days Gone is the perfect Walking Dead game.

Good review, you went into more detail than other reviews, the trip wire, bear trap, sending people to certain camps. No other review spoke about the intricate pieces of gameplay.
You guys always have the most detailed insightful reviews. Keep up the awesome work.
I love it how you actually show every little negative side about the game, not just talk about it, so I can see how bad it actually looks like in gameplay. I instantly became a patreon supporter to you, keep up these type of reviews and I will stay for a long time. Great job!
Good review! I'm planning on picking this up
Picking up 2 copies of Days Gone. One for me and one for a friend.
steve mack that’s very generous. Unless you absolutely must play this right now I’d recommend waiting for a sale.
solarneddy already purchased and I am loving this game so much that I don’t even want to go to work this morning. Lol. To me it’s a little better than The Last Of Us and I love that game too.
solarneddy Also I’ve been playing for 6 hrs now and never came across any bugs. Riding the bike is feels good on this to.
@stevemack yes love this game.... It's just xbox fans that's trying to down play this.... I bet you he don't respond back.

A great and meticulous review as always :)
Game looks better than I had assumed it would be too.
Got this on PS plus about 10 hours in and it’s fantastic! Had no idea it would be this good
I still don’t get how Deacon can attach weapons to his back without them falling off..
I hope the songs playing in this review are directly taken from the games OST.
Great review!
I'll still buy it. There's not alot of games that feature motorcycles except for all my time favorite and masterpiece of a game, Ride to Hell.

@@aniki6575 hey, wanna play a zombie game?
So buy the game when they iron out the bugs and it is on sale...
There's a day one patch
@@MrSwitchblade327 Yeah true, maybe my comment is a bit unfair, I just want to experience the game at its full potential, day one patches rarely fix every annoying bug. Supporting a good single player game without microtransactions at release is always a good idea, so ignore the "buy it on sale" part XD
Same as always for AAA games.
MrSwitchblade327 day one patch didn’t fix anything don’t misinform people, there’s already reviewers who had the latest patch which was the retail patch didn’t fix the many bugs out.
@@Jason-ut3ou theres also another patch in the works for next week

Nice, helpful review, thanks! Looking forward to playing Days Gone.
Just playing now and when I try to look right the camera sticks and goes sluggish, like been dragged through mud. Is this a known issue?
The good news? Technical issues can be fixed.
William Friedrich: Exactly. All the negative points seem fixable via a few patches. Once again though, a game launching before being truly ready.
But will Sony Bend fix them?
Jonny Rogers pretty much already have. Patch 1.05 makes them almost on existent and 1.06 just came out today .
@@TheABElia Jones got the pre patch version (review copy). Recent patches really help with the bugs.
@@modeyv2 so, is it better now with the patches?
Best review I've seen. Despite some of the negative reviews, I'm still picking up my pre-order tonight. I honestly think with some patches it'll be an amazing game. I'm already stoked for the free DLC coming out later too.
Finally! a well balanced and clear review! Thank you very much. I cant remember the last time a game came out & I was so baffled by the reviews.
Thanks again.
I wonder what the enemy respawn is like. If you kill the enemies in the area and then save and reload, will the same enemies respawn in the same places ?
Did you guys play the game with updates?
Fighting a Bear that is on fire we truly live in the golden age
Really great review Jones. Ultimately with a game like this I think you've gotta ask yourself whether its core strengths and ideas are appealing enough to you for you to be able to forgive it's many flaws and shortcomings... the very definition of a "swimming in 7s" if you'll forgive the Huberism. Unfortunately I've got too much in my back log to justify picking it up right now but I do hope this game does well cause it does seem like there are a lot of interesting ideas in there.
Seems like a 7 that could elevate to an 8 with tech fixes. I was looking for beautiful environments to explore and an interesting, dark story. I think it covers those interests. Looking forward to playing it.
They will fix most of the issues with this game, but what matters is that the good parts are VERY VERY good! And there’s a beautiful and fully realized world AND...ya get to be a damn biker! What more would ya want?
The comment that the story drags is odd because Far Cry is one the MOST repetitive IPs ever made and it’s rarely mentioned. Personally, I’m sad when after 150 hrs that is all you get in such an impressive world, be it AC, Horizon, and other great open world games. For me, the more the content the merrier. And the freakiest themselves set this game apart, mixed with its open world nature.
Overall, this appears to be a breathe of fresh air and a dream come true of sorts in an otherwise overly saturated market.
Does this review include the day one patch ?
1.04 was 20gb and I have not seen a single issue after 5+ hours playing. Games amazing.
the only best and honest review i have seen. thank you for the most honest review among all those rushed ones.
dude i really liked your review, this was my first time watching your video, liked and subscribed!
Set in my home state of Oregon? Cool, I thought I recognized Mt Hood in the gameplay footage. And sweet that the devs are based in Bend.
3:03 - Canisters
I Played for a few hours and I have to say that the Batman vision , mission objective markers and minimap indicators are ruining an otherwise great experience . I think I will wait until the summer for the Survival Mode to arrive so that I can play this game properly , I wish devs will add an option to remove mini map, focus vision , fast travel and mini map separately . Assassins Creed Odyssey did a great job allowing players to disable mission objective markers (Exploration vs guided mode).
"bloating, festering genre"

3:10 "You can personalise your ride's colour, change decals..."

I am hoping to play this game soon because looks really interesting
Two big game reviews in one day, keep up the good work guys!
Great review Jones. Knew exactly what worked here and what didn't. You are truly in alignment with the genre. That's why I trust your 10.0s/Greats.
So we wait to buy this one on sale. But what to play until for us casuals?
5:12 Please tell me we get to use that flamethrower?
Performance issues and glitches can be sorted out with patches. Design of some elements is something we have to live with. Really looking forward to play this myself. My copy should arrive tomorrow. Cant wait.
I agree :)
do you know technical issues can be fixed with patch
So far the best review I've checked. Well explained and very objective. 7.5 sounds like the score this game really deserves: very good and almost great.
The only review I care about right here.
These guys and ACG are always the ones I'm looking out for.
ACG FTW
I’ve been on a roller coaster with this game. Excited upon announcement, bored up until the lead up to release, now I kind of want to experience it.
Can’t wait to play this, I think I’ll enjoy it.
I pre ordered this game and I'll get this tomorrow. But hearing these bug problems, should I just wait for a few days or weeks for an update?

@@EasyAllies Thank you for confirming, good to know we shouldn't expect anything different when we get to play with that patch level tomorrow
What an interesting game. I can see they genuinely tried and poured a lot of actual care in to it, maybe with this experience they can go on to make something truly amazing next time. Still picking this up, I like games that I can tell the devs put heart in to it and those zombies are real neat.
Grab the beach balls, sun block, and some swim gear...it's a great day for swimming in 7s

One of the best and most fair reviews iv seen. Ign needs to take notes.
I get the sense that this will be one of those games that's seen as an underrated gem in the future. As a lot of the indie reviewers are enjoying it more than mainstream gaming Media reviewers.
I have finished this game on every difficulty!!! I have never had any performance issues EVER!!! They have fixed all the bugs and add a Challenge Mode where you can earn patches that give you buffs that transfer to the game. This is the BEST video game I have ever
played. Fairest review I've seen of this game!!! If you review it again, I'm sure you would rate it at least an 8.5 if not 9.0. For me it will always be a10.0.
9:05 "incredibly moving"
i'm sorry but that's just too hilarious to ignore.
Easy-Allies you guys are the best reviewers in youtube. 100 times better than Ign or Gamespot. Do a series about rebooting ps2 classics.
I enjoyed Golden Abyss and know they made Syphon filter and have been following Days Gone since it was first announced. Technical issues hopefully will be sorted through patches nonetheless I'm looking forward to exploring the world of Days Gone as I'm a biker and looking for a new adventure.
the game is great. 20gb patch last night fixed it. I have been playing 10+ hours and not had a single glitch and smooth fps on the og ps4. These commenters are sheep and full of shit. They havent' even played the game. Fucking morons.

There’s a newer patch that’s been released today, but I don’t know how much of an improvement it makes. Hopefully it fixes some of these issues.
Thank you bro.Yeah same here i hope that latest patch fixes the main bug's,i'm in two minds whether to buy or not.
Justin Heyward, I’ve decided to pull the trigger and pick up the game. It looks like it’s right up my alley. Thanks to EZA and ACG, at least I know what I’m getting into, as far as technical issues are concerned.
*Days Gone* is pretty scary and fun, when you play it right. I'm just moving about collecting all the resources I need, and will need for later. Not to mention, I'm not trying to run through the game just to see how fast I could finish it, no. I'm actually taking my time being stealth as I gather resources as I take out these campers and a shit load of freakers. I mean, who does that any way; Buy a game and rush through it, like you have to return it the next day? You can't enjoy a anything that way, anything! Especially, an open world game. This game is fun, and in some cases scary as hell. My rating would be an *8.7 outta 10* for *Days Gone. *

Awesome review btw! Fully agree on everything stated and the score it was given. If bugs had been fixed it would easily he an 8.
Cheers
@Syuna not what reputable reviewers have been saying but sure.
Yong Yea said the game is a lot of fun and has a great story.
Dreamcastguy gave it a 7 and said it would have been an 8 if not for the bugs.
This review pretty much implies the same thing.
So please, why do you think its a 6.5 at best? Ive been playing it at my mates house today and its awesome.
''Bloated festering genre''? The only thing bloated is people saying this over and over again. By that logic aren't shooters a bloating festering genre, super hero films are bloated too, and why not say battle royal as well just because they are made in abundance. For some reason zombie games get called over used while everyone gets to make the same genre in a span of a month. I never understood this so please explain it to me. I think one group didn't like zombie games so they called them overused then everyone just ran with that for some reason.
I'm a huge of zombies, RE is one of my favorite game franchises of all time. But the genre is pretty bloated (although I think it's more the open-world genre that's the big hindrance here and not the zombie part). But yeah, FPS and battle royal as well. It's all the same and so boring
@@Goomyx1492 As long as you're saying it's true for other genres then fine but my point was that the zombie genre seems to get called out on it far more than the others. There are genres for a reason. Categories for people to select from to suit their taste.
Brandon is awesome. One of the best reviewers out there.
It’s a solid 8.5 after patches. The game starts to get much better midway through.
ty for the review was gonna pick it up today but most likely wait a few months for the bugs and kinks to be worked out. seems promising tho
Will this game make my Pro sound like a jet engine just like GoW and Uncharted 4?
The story is really compelling, especially in the 2nd quarter onwards.
they just released a new patch today 1.04. Will probably release another one tomorrow to fix everything. They are moving fast.
