- In years past, Black Friday is marked with big crowds of people outside retailers, with some camping out for days on end for discounted items. Nowadays, the lines are gone, and some wonder if Black Friday has lost its meaning. FOX 10's Lauren Clark reports.

because people are suffering from inflation - already having hard enough time to pay their bills - they're finally understanding that black friday deals aren't actually deals and that there's more important things than to waste on some damn material ... all thanks to a dying economy that they still wont admit too ... and tbh .. its beautiful to see those parking lots empty
Close , it's because they are not giving good deals. If you remember discounts as big as 80% on big ticket items now you get maybe 10- 15 %. For a lot of people that's not worth it

I'm not doing any shopping, For one, thanksgiving food was expensive. Two, the deals are trash.... its always been a scam. Companies can shove their products.
I've seen many sales tags with it being only price normally. And being marked down to another price.
If you lift the tag up it says the sales price on it for the actual normal price.
This is a good thing!
No more pissed off, sleep deprived hordes camping in parking lots in freezing weather overnight.
No more crazed mobs trampling each other the second stores open their doors.
No more unhinged customers pummeling each other for that last $5 coffee maker or bludgeoning one another for that $50, 32" no-name brand flat panel that'll crap out in six months.
No more psychotic customers threatening stressed out retail workers just because the store ran out of advertised items.
Now yes, I will miss those wacky viral videos of all the Black Friday mayhem, but...
Our society will be better off in the long run. This twisted social experiment is thankfully coming to an end.

I agree. To me, that brief period when retail stores were open on Thanksgiving was complete bullcrap. It wasn't fair to deprive those poor workers of one lousy holiday off.

I never cared about black Friday. I just shop when I really need something.
People are finally waking up not to the big store deals on Black Fridays. But waking up to The down fall of consumerism and recession.

I haven't been to a store in years. I buy everything online and have it delivered. The only time I'll run into a store, is to get some eggs or fresh fish 🤣. I'm done with those days.

Same here, I shop at Walmart regularly and haven't been in one in years.
For the last 5 or so years. Amazon has had all my black friday deals. No crowds, long lines or ignorant people. Shopping in peace and quiet. I don't need the item the same day. I'm fine with delivery the very next 1 or 2 days. Going to stores on crazy friday is not my thing anymore. Strictly online until world ends.
Considering im single not married or kids thank god...i still never once cared for black friday...
Crime is also a big deterrent. Both in people stealing and in people being afraid to be out. For me the inflation in prices and the deflation of the dollar keep me content and grateful with what I have.

To be honest the issue isnt even inflation, its part if the problem sure. The big problem is there's no actual deal. I remember going in person last year, looking at places that had no sales going on whatsoever, later that same night going on their website and finding multiple sales. It's just better to job online these days. Besides, everyone spent their money on food lol.
Put groceries on sale, and you will see hordes of people again.
Pay the same price for a super Black Friday deal now as regular prices from 2019. It’s been a ripoff but now it’s laughable.
People do NOT have the time to be standing out there for no reason. Online let's you find what you need and skip the crowds. Everyone else who works all the time will happily take some extra time to relax.

I noticed in the store I work at, the returns were busy on Friday. They were probably returning items to get the money to buy Christmas gifts.

No deals anymore
North Central Florida. I went to the super Walmart about noon black Friday there were cashiers standing at the end of every aisle waiting on someone to check out. . I chose a cashier and went to check out and I noticed the two cashiers next to mine gave my cashier a horrible look like how dare you. I asked My cashier what was that about. She said that it's almost dead all day and the cashiers are getting desperate almost ready to fight each other over customers to ring out.... Black Friday is upside down now.

The truth about Black Friday deals:
1-The same sales the stores have during the course of the year, is the same exact sales they do on Black Friday.
2-Door exclusive items are just the same products the stores have on clearance during the course of the year.
3-Stores have online Black Friday deals that are not offered in the store and where you can avoid in-store lines.
i remeber back in 2013 it was such a long line but now thanks to the internet black friday is mostly online. sign of times i guess

If companies wanted a big IQ move, they'd offer limited editions pertaining to that year that can only be bought in store. I wouldnt offer an online limited version though due to bots, scripts, and people just buying you out within miliseconds and turning the profit all themselves. Lol

Why camp out and wait for that supposed really good deal when the doors open in the morning. Because as soon as they do a giant crowd of people that did not wait in line are going to push and shove Everybody through the door and start fights because they want it and believe they're entitled. When in reality they should be jailed for their behavior...
Can't afford shlt in this economy, so why fkng bother? I work 2 full time jobs, make just under 6 figures a year, but still barely getting by. We don't eat out, we don't grubhub, my (older) vehicles are paid off, but normal everyday shlt is so expensive now we can't buy as much during the holidays.
HeII, just a month ago I looked up historical candy prices for Halloween (was curious why it was so expensive) and from 2021 to 2022 it went up 13% To put that in perspective, it took 9 previous years to go up that high. So there was 9 years worth of inflation just that one year.
Anyway, the powers that be that are running this planet are really fkng it up for the rest of us, and we're tired of it.

Black friday was awesome when i was a kid, pushing and shoving and the mad dash for that one item. But since Amazon because a household name i rather wait for cyber Monday. The black friday deal are lame, why go to target, Walmart or best buy to get 3 dollars off a memory card when i can wait for cyber Monday and get 20 dollars off that same memory card without leaving my house and having people sneeze and cough all over me. 3 dollars off is lame but 20 is a deal
