The mob vote is supposed to be a fun event, but with every year it feels like it's going further away from it's original intention. These cause so much hate and arguing that it's probably a better idea to either remake the mob vote, or scrap it.

Except if you were playing for awhile how would the claw help you?
You're standing next to a 3 block tall wall, are you going to make it 4 with the claw? Not unless you climb it.
You've just build the ceiling with a claw, but now you need to build the roof or lights so you still have to climb up.
You're making the 4 block wall longer, the claw isn't going to help you.
The incredibly rare situations where a claw could be useful is replaced by arcane magic from the depths of unholy places. This magic is called Dirt Block, Scaffolding, and Planning things out.

The previous mob votes didn’t offer a catered feature for casual players (wolf armor would appeal very heavily to casual players, whereas the crab claw feels too technical to understand as an unknowledgeable player) and thus a much larger demographic of minecraft users had a reason to vote this year. When talking about the polls on CZcams and Twitter, keep in mind that this year's vote had specific features designed to get the younger MC audience voting.
First of all, the voting window was more than DOUBLE the length of last year (24 hrs in 2022 vs 48 hrs & 15 minutes in 2023), to make sure everyone had a chance to vote.
Second, they made sure to emphasize that you could vote in the bedrock server (highly accessible to kids on phones/tablets), and had it highlighted in the main menu of Bedrock edition.
Finally, the entire Chinese MC playerbase was able to vote this year. Granted, not all of them will be kids, but this still adds a bunch of votes to the total.
TL;DR: I don't think the vote was bottled. The evidence just isn't there, and there are reasonable and probable explanations to all the points made in this video.

It unfortunately doesn't work like that, you have to have a minecraft account to get the token, and because they discovered a method for tokens, they were able to skip the account identification completely
Also, fyi the (java) system (they're rather similar) works like that: You open minecraft with a token (a string of characters), which you get when you authenticate to microsoft servers by opening the launcher and logging in.
Then, the token is used in a parameter for the jar command launching the game (like -Xmx or -Xms - assigning memory for the java virtual machine) Then, when you join a server, the token gets sent to the server, which then authenticates you with the microsoft servers. This is on by default, and is used for most private servers/smp's, and also some servers like Hypixel.
Bedrock's token is probably also requested when the game starts, or when you log in, and because it makes a new token everytime, they could vote infinitely.

I think it's also important to realize population skew in Community polls. A large portion of the polls (especially as documented in this video) were done on the platform previously known as Twitter. Twitter user demographics could be substantially different from average Minecraft demographics and thus skew the polls. A general theory goes that since Twitter caters more towards adults (not specifically excluding teens but definitely not the key demographic), a large portion of votes would be utility skewed. Older players would see the utility of the crab claw as more valuable than Wolf Armor (niche use in adventuring and combat, made less necessary as player skill increases), and also more valuable than whatever speed a penguin may give boats (especially given their tendencies to be found closer to icy oceans which are notoriously bad to travel with boats). Again just a theory but something to consider when looking at this purely statistically.

"Every twitter poll I saw showed that the crab would win" You mean biased twitter polls with only 5,000 votes that aren't representative of the larger minecraft community?
"More people showed up for the vote but google trends say otherwise" That's google trends, not minecraft. They actually had a server for it as well as counting Chinese votes and its shown that Chinese voters as well as South American voters favored the armadillo.
"Only kids voted for the armadillo because dog armor" Not true, I'm 20 and rather have an army of dogs all wearing farmed dog armor so I'm untouchable as well as a cute armadillo pet over a few extra blocks of build height that I can just pile up or use scaffolding for.
Not saying TheMisterEpic is making these points to show its rigged, just addressing things I've heard other people say. I believe that it wasnt rigged and even if a few botted votes were counted the armadillo still fairly won.

Abnormal API usage would definitely look obviously different compared to normal use.
From the bedrock mob vote server: The player would have at least claimed the cape and potentially walked into some block position triggers on the way to the vote levers.
From the website and Java launcher: The browser would have at least loaded all the images and the browser headers need to make sense.
And of course, thousands of API usages coming from the same IP when only 1 or few is expected can add to the obviousness.
That would be why they say it didn't impact the results.

As with all online events there is always botting. But it is likely a combination of all factors mentioned
botting, Minecraft China, and children with no internet access. I believe that if Mojang released a heat map of the mob vote we would see crab votes being evenly distributed across areas with voting and armadillo votes clustered around population centers.
The crab likely always won on the regional level but there were more armadillo votes in total.

I really hope that Determinated takes the time to learn how to properly disclose and report security vulnerabilities. The fact that they found this vulnerability, but rather than reporting it, created an exploit (which was then leaked and allegedly used to rig the vote) indicates that they are in serious need of some security training.

As a programmer I'm almost sure that they have some kind of authorization before counting the vote. Theoretically you can send as many votes as you want using different tokens but after all they must have been send using some account so after all, all the votes will be lost since one account can have only one vote.
It will be strange if such a big company didn't have such protection

I remember one person in the comment section had the much better idea of making the mob vote a Community Idea Vote where Mojang picked their favorites and then players voted for which they liked.

I think the suprise win is due to other countries, and i did see some large community poles with the armadillo winning. Also are large chunk of the poles shown at the beginning are from channels who appeal to more technical players or builders giving a bias to the crab. Also some of them were on twitter and that platform is a walking corpse.

3:30 this code is has a massive problem, as while it does indeed generate a random delay to call the vote() code with
it only generates the delay time once, then sticks with it for every call
the better solution would be to use setTimeout, then in that call, activate estTimeout again with a new time
