Russian Gas Mask Air Filter - Wasteland Wednesday

  • In Mother Russia, gas mask wears YOU!
    In this video I take the old filter from my Russian gas mask and create a cover for my NEW air filter on the Sportster wasteland motorcycle!
    How to Make a 4" Air Filter:
    www.hdforums.com/forum/sportst...
    The 4 inch air filter was just $13 at my local Auto Zone, and with a little bit of modification, fit right on to the Sportster carb. It's a cheap, working option for those who want to change the look of their stock Sportster air filter.
    The Russian gas mask became a headlight cover in my original Mad Max Motorcycle video, but since had been chopped off. The filter fits PERFECTLY over the 4" air filter. I LOVE the look of the inside piece, which is why I made it as the cover for the filter.
    I may go back and get another gas mask filter (super cheap) and cut it properly to try creating a cover again.
    I hope you enjoyed this WASTELAND WEDNESDAY!!!
    Leave a like and feel free to comment any ideas you want to share. I hope this inspires you to be creative and always DIY!

    All of the crap that I get for my motorcycle costs a small fortune but then you buy the cheap stuff and make it look cool. Your bike is way more customized than mine will ever be and yet you probably paid a fraction of the price. I love what you do and I can't wait to see what other awesome ideas you come up with next.

      Thank you dude!! I've paid my dues in getting this heap of metal back to good running condition lol. Since the theme is wasteland, I try to imagine that in apocalyptic times you just have to use what you can find. So I get to scavenge and make old junk into parts! I love new stuff too but re-purposing is cheap fun.

  • @cruiserbrewser
    @cruiserbrewser Před 7 lety +1

    Looks badass. the only thing I would suggest is taking some screen from a screen door or window and putting it behind the cover. the holes that are in it allows a lot of dirty to potentially enter the carb and the engine.
    looks badass though. good work!

    "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents" ~ Bob Ross. I've got the same problem with my air filter set-up... trying to find/make a cover I'm happy with. It'll probably end up being the bottom of a coffee can.

      @KillswitchQueen  Před 7 lety +1

      Lol! I would love to be the Bob Ross of motorcycle builders. Maybe that can be the next series... And that's a sweet idea! Have to get creative to have something unique. Maybe I can find an old oil can or the like that would work better.

  • @scottf6182
    @scottf6182 Před 7 lety +1

    Just a thought.... but you could cut the top of the gas mask filter an eighth of an inch wide ... slip that over the filter ... fits perfect over it .. drill hole for wing nut bolt and done..... no dirty air going through the piece you made.... just clean air through the filter......looks awesome.... but clean air is better then dirty air......just a different way of looking at it......a mechanical way for the engine and it would save engine from dirt.....

    • @mechanicalcanvas
      @mechanicalcanvas Před 7 lety +1

      ^ Thats what I would do. Cut just enough ring from the gas mask so that it slips over the first chrome bit of the air filter. Then add your wingnut to the 'front'

      The moment she finished putting it on and was showing it off, my mind started coming up with a rain shield design.
      Some 'rust' or 'hammer mark' paint to make it look home made, or scrap scavenged, and voila. I'm thinking a 1/3rd circle to protect the front and bottom and a bit of the top of the round filter should be fine. Maybe flair the top and bottom a bit to add some of that 50's Art Deco swoop styling to it.
      Urgh! Killswitch Queen is making me wanna make my garage into a workshop to try out these ideas she's giving me!! GAAAAAAAH!!

    bruh ahight i want that green filter can with the war writing and stencil on it to. i do what you do, as far as junkion type stuff! i just dont vlog it. lol. if you cut the center out of the green can and cut the jagged bottom rim off. you could use a mig and tac 4 spots to hold that bad ass piece you got to the inside of the can. JS. cause i love your original idea and that disk would give it plenty of breathing room!. love the vlogs and bike looks sick

Slip your hand between it and the hanging gives you a good beaing point of where the heat is without taking eyes off road or mirrors. Same for left hand, just a tip.
