Anna: I love thinking
Also Anna: puts herself in a position where she has no time to think
Me: Same 😂 ❤
She should "doing" even more.
I've never heard anyone say that before.
@@CerpherJoe It is a thing.. haha.
Time management comes with experience. When you blitz in classical time, you will make mistakes. When you play to slow, you will have to blitz in the endgame. Make sure you master both. Blitz and classic tempo.
😂
On how Anna spends a lot of time thinking reminds me of Alireza Firouzja. He also spends a lot of time, and I remember that in 2022, Alireza made a record of thinking on one move for 63 minutes against Hikaru.
Jennifer is super nice. Volunteered regularly, played me and 3 of my bozo friends as a favor in a 4v1 (we drew!). Was really happy when she won the US women’s championship again.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jennifer at the St. Louis Chess Club on March 31, 2019, during the 2019 U. S. Open, at the St. Louis Chess Club (March 18-31, 2019). She played fantastically and she autographed a square (c8) on one of my "autograph chess boards." She was very pleasant and it was a pleasure to meet her and watch her play. I knew that she was going to grow into a phenomenal player. I wish her the best in her GM pursuit!
Right, and i was president in 2019
@@danielbattle7620is it so difficult to believe some one could meet a somewhat not famous person? I mean among chess circles they're probably famous but to the rest of world they're nobodies. I know people lie on the Internet but this is stretching it
@@ichrised dont take the bait we just downvote and move on from the haters.
@@danielbattle7620 I was there. I was a member of the club for a few years and I met most all the major and upcoming players at that time. The St. Louis Chess Club was a great place to see many events. Rex Sinquefield essentially made St. Louis the Chess capitol of the states.
Jennifer was already a US Women’s Champion by then. She was already a star!!
“Forgetting” (things like opening moves Re8) is the reason I’ll never be a master level chess player. I have a poor short-term memory, and this is one of the most critical skills you need in chess.
Man, that sucks. I don't seem to have a visual memory - I can't picture things in my mind. Makes calculation hard. People that can play blindfolded amaze me.
@@williamhicks558do you have aphantasia or is it just chess ?
I heard that visualising isent the only way to do it some realy good blindfold players couldent see the board but used other methods instead like logic and so on so dont try to force something visual
@@philarnautovic7171 Probably have aphantasia. It's not just chess.
No it's not. She got into a bad position by trying to memorize lines instead of playing solid developing moves.
spending half an hour on a bishop move back one square is criminal 😂
i know, been watching her games for a while now and she often does that, over thinking everything even the simplest and obvious moves thus getting into time trouble quite often.
The best players cannot have any reluctance to change approaches at any time during a game.
😂
What a strange comment
Some moves, it could be a pawn or a queen, one square or many - but the importance can be extremely high.
9:20 her face after the knight move 😆
She was absolutely disgusted by that move LOL
Thanks for the great recap, and good luck to Jen in her road to GM!
Thanks so much for these recaps, Anna!!❤
10:08 Dina’s wtf face
😅
whats wrong
@@urmom-ze2dv That was when she first saw andreas wig lol
nice nips
Anna, it seems to me that is less the time you need to think that is causing you trouble but the time you need to find the confindence for your move. For better of worse, sometimes you should maybe just follow your plan. Anyhow, I like watching the recaps of your classic games. I always keep my fingers crossed for you. But one never knows where your games end. That is really thrilling.
Loved the recap! You handled the opening with confidence and showed great resilience under pressure. That fighting spirit is what makes your games so exciting to watch-keep it up!
It shows very well, what that ELO difference means at your and her level. You made less than a handful of slight mistakes and one bigger and she sunk her teeth in and could take command of the game.
Nevertheless, your game was really good and I am glad you participated in this tournament and share your games with us
When Jennifer leans back. Game over!
That's when you know Anna is nervous, she randomly stands up. Which didn't even happen with Magnus which shows Jennifer is a beast.
the biggest problem of us amateur players is that we rely on our preparation to get a good position but we do not understand why those moves are made so we easily mix them up. Also the plan with Nge2 followed by f3 and e4 was a weapon of Gary Kasparov to push for wins against Karpov on their world championship. Knowing the classics is the foundation of a good chess player.
“911 whats ur emergency?”
“I can't stop watching Anna Cramling videos!”

Bot-ass comment lol
@@absurdism101 ur cringe
Sorry sir but there is no cure for that condition.
Best offence is a good defence Anna. Sometimes heavily defending the king opens up routes to victory in the end game. Magnus hates when people attack his king. That’s why he fortifies his king on crazy points of the board; even the centre.
I always learn so much from these videos, thank you
Thank you for being a good sport towards Jennifer, the interview was a great idea to round things off.
You're a great ambassador for chess - would love to see a bit more of the building and the surrounding streets of Los Angelos suburb.
Thanks for the recap and good luck 🍀
Was it just me or did she sound sad and down in this one? Right from the start I had the feeling that she would lose just with how she sounded, I'm only about 60% into the video so I don't know the outcome yet but it's pretty obvious at this point.
Hope this loss doesn't get Anna too down, I can obly imagine the kind of pressure one must feel going into a match with a national champion with the World Championship in her sights.
The fact that she went into the game with the mindset of looking for a draw was the only true blunder, she had already resigned psychologically in a sense.
Thank you Anna for all the time and effort you put into making these wonderful videos! We appreciate you!
Jennifer is so strong. It’s always interesting to see you go against strong opposition.
Looks like you were overthinking the problem. We all love you dearly, Anna. You know we are behind you. You are still quite young and your time will come.
Congrats Jen. Good game both.
Jennifer is a goddamn smoke-show

GOOD LUCK ANNA FOR THE REST OF THE TOURNAMENT GAMES!❤❤
Anna, I enjoyed your critique of yours and Jennifer’s game! Thanks!😊
Great chess and excellent fashion show in the background
Looking forward to when Jennifer can grind and move up without school getting in the way, and hopefully also some of her own chess content too, would love to see do something like hikaru or levy or anna.
Anna, time! Good luck the rest of the tournament.
I love they way you say ‘iron’ by pronouncing the R. Years ago I was seeing a Swedish girl and she said it the same way i-ron - just made me smile ☺️Great game btw !
do native speakers say ion?

I had totally missed this: "Cairns Chess Queens Award: $100,000 for women who get the GM title"
I'm still rooting for Anna, but damn Jennifer Yu got a new fan.
Good luck to Jen, though it looks like she won't need it, she looks very skilled.
I wish we could see your face in the recaps, as I feel seeing your expressions adds a lot to your words. Still loving the videos though! It's great to follow along with your chess adventures.
That is a game face! Never saw Jennifer Yu play but Ive heard of her accomplishments.
aw, i could hear that hint of sadness in your voice in this recap T_T ah well. you did your best, and that's all that matters. after all, Jen didn't get 2x US Women's Chess Champion for nothing.
all that aside, this was a great recap as always, and thumbs up for the impromptu Andrea appearance and the post-game conversation with Jen. thanks for the video, and all the best to Jen with that GM title!
(and no i don't iron my shirts lol. i loathed doing it when i was in junior college and eventually i just stopped bothering with it)
I saw Jennifer playing in a southwest Open in Dallas....against a guy name Green i was impressed how strong she is
Thanks for sharing your games and Pia for the excellent commentary.
Good luck, Jen.
Slightly off-topic, but I really like the set their playing with. Does anyone know what set it is or where I can be ordered?
Some combo of Re8 Nbd7 Nf8 Ne6 looks like a more straight forward was to achieve Ne6. I think it is the standard way people do it.
It was a very close game in reality, but when being pushed in to a defensive dance I try to break the attackers rhythm but either hitting back else where far up on the board or run a pawn up an open side and put the fear of another queen into them. Anyways she got when lucky you burned your clock and missed her mistake.
n+1 consecutive game with Anna going on time trouble. If you have 1 min and your opponent have 37, you are toasted.
Men don’t see creases. Or DUST! 😂
I saw her creases and thanked a higher being that someone as organised and optimistic as Anna can still not iron their white shirts like me
* I almost exclusively wear white cotton shirts … unironed, but hung up straight out the dryer - very hard to do while travelling, however, so she’s probably still more organised tbf
GG Anna - sorry you missed the “theory” rook but still … thinking your way out without theory is what makes chess fun. Too much textbook theory is what kills it imho
3:28 no more serious face hahahahahhaah
10:06 Paris Olympic Opening Ceremony was like...
huh?
Hahaah, I loved that look of "where am I?"😂
Disgusting
@@PlutoKushChris no you
in this position anna try to check to clock if your opponent is losing on time just play as much possible you might lost a piece and some position but you will still win on time
No, I do not iron my shirts. (Another word for un-ironed is "wrinkled" 😉). I didn't notice the wrinkles during the stream. Now about the chess .. Is it common to play lines that you've never played before during the tournament? Seems to me may not be the time to experiment. I enjoyed the surprise visit with Andrea. Also, the future so looks bright for Jen Yu. She's been a beast in this tournament and seems very nice. Wish her nothing but success in the future. Good luck to you the rest of the tournament!
We've been hearing Anna saying she spent too much time for almost a year and still no progress. @Anna, this is the key topic you should be focusing unless you want to loose other games with 1800 rated players. (Like in one of the tournamements.) Of course, my opinion only.
Good luck Jennifer!
In place of wishing you good luck I give you the British statement of good sportsmanship. Have a good game and may the best player win!
3:00 No, i never iron my shirts and it feels like a waste of time for me.
Both woman are incredibly beautifull and intelligent. Wow what a combo. Congratulations to both of you on a wonderful game
About your unironed shirt, Adolfo Dominguez once said "wrinkles are beautiful"
Wishing you good luck on your next game. I’m learning a lot just watching you. It’s always a joy to watch your talent! And it doesn’t hurt that you’re so pretty!
Anna around 5:24 why not make a battering ram with bishop and queen c7? You can sacrifice the bishop and you can attack with the queen and stop her from castling.
Good game, Jen. Great lesson Anna.
Big up both girls 🎉
I almost never iron anything. While i kinda like doing it I just never have time for it...
I learned to think, but bullet is fun. In classical I would fall asleep or forget I'm playing and walk too long or something.
Good luck, Anna! ❤
Anna, I thought you could have gone into an endgame w/ drawing chances by instead of playing R-e7, play Q-e3ck forcing the queen trade & taking back w/ the e8 rook with the possibility of later attacking her e4 &/or b2 pawns. Keep on fighting & remember, the eye of the tiger! FREE
f3 e4 is one of two major plans in carlsbad structure...
Not only do i not iron my shirts, but i do not own an iron AND have never even held one! Lol
It would have been nice if we could have heard from Jennifer You during the actual game.
Good luck Jenn, you too Anna
Awesome game all around
Good game :) And good luck Jennifer in becoming a Grandmaster! You got this~
@brofenix: Do you have any basis for why she is not going to be in the 99% or so in her position who desire to yet fail to become a Grandmaster or are you just making claims without regard to such considerations?
To sacrifice the h6 pawn when black has already played g6 was suicidal
we like natural people ! real people, thats why we love you Anna!
Emergency, paging Dr. Cramling! Emergency!
So nice to see talented people
noticed the unironed shirt rightaway 😂😂
I was hoping that Anna would win.
Good luck Gen.!
But instead of getting her to tell (some) comments after the game, why not having her to describe her moves in parallel with your comments?
Of course, it would be a longer video to prepare etc. But, having a Champion, it would be great!!
I want to hear what jennifer was telling you at the end!! why do youtubers always cut that out lol it's most interesting hearing the insight of the winner
Jennifer is one of the most exciting players to watch on the US womens chess circuit. She makes some of the most daring moves and has been known to make blunders and find a way to equalize and or regain the advantage. She won her 2nd US championship in an Armaggedon match after blundering her bishop in the first 6 moves. Most people would of resigned but she defended and somehow won on time.
Cool, thanks for the info. Please take this in good spirit, it's "would have resigned" not "would of resigned"
Peace.

I never iron my shirts, but then again they're all from wool so it's different.
In terms of taking too much time I have this to say, Thinking is good, just think faster. Oh and be accurate, play fast be accurate , find the optimal path. Time is your enemy not the thinking part.
I suspect that Anna, from a mental perspective, feels more comfortable losing on time rather than resigning from imminent checkmate. Letting herself run out of time is a coping mechanism
She resigned...
It's not that you forgot. Chess is more mental than a physical game. 😊
They spend a lot of time writing things down when it is all on tape.
Loved Andrea's cameo😁
Jenn beat Irena in St Loius a bishop down out of the gate.
don't mess with the red white n blue !
When Anna moved the bishop to D6, would B4 also been a good move? This move was at 3:06.
There is Dina, doing a espionage 😂
You both played some great mewvs!
I think that's the first time I heard "iron" pronounced "I ron" (which makes sense but sounded odd to my American ears). And no, I no longer iron my shirts. Cool thing about being retired is that I don't have to impress anyone anymore. :-)
Or “press” any (thing). 😂
im american and i say i roned. Are you jewish or something?
@@vickistine9388 Where I'm from, pressing was for rich people. :-)
Good Luck Jen. Good Luck Anna. Good Luck Andrea.
Hmm! Never play traveling chess before. İ gotta try that. :)
Any one else think she needs to just work faster? Seems to be a trend where she gets short on time and it forces her to make moves or does not give her enough time to see the best option? Anna set a maximum amount of time limit on yourself and your rating will go up. Better results just by setting a cap on how long you take on your turns.
Nice analysis.
I like when she says "mewve"
I'd be happy if she could just pronounce Chaass correctly
2 beautiful women playing high level chess, my day is complete.
In the QGD as black you have some easy moves in the beginnig, but on the long run White has the easier play and the initiative.
