    I think you may have wondered HOW Gibson let that one out the door; the answer is that it may have had help(grown legs and left on it's own, of course, and snuck past the powerful Gibson Quality-control folks). Not to worry, though - once your magic hands got a-holt of it, you got the "six-million dollar" guitar, ("we have the technology, we can make it better, etc") and made it work. I love watching your work. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to film it and share it.

    Awesome resto mate. That was a serious effort to revive that beastie. I noticed you are like the third person I have seen using those angelus dyes on a guitar. In all cases I was impressed with the color ranges and how they blend. That brown however has been just plain brutal in every case. Its like that needs to be thinned down over 60% or more. For leather I am sure that works awesome for wood its just too... ugh

    This reminds me of the unfinished Les Paul Custom husk I bought very cheap as an 80s teenager here in NZ. The music shop owner who was the Gibson dealer gave it a once over, put on his best poker face, and offered me about 5x what I paid. I'll never know who got the best end of that deal. I got some new pedals though.
    Not long before that I sold another music shop a guitar. The first guitar I bought with my own money when I was 16. A 1955 Gibson SJ acoustic. I walked out with a Cort electric, some Boss pedals and a beginner's solid state amp. I thought I had done well getting all that stuff for that old guitar. Kids thought newer was better in those days, e.g., my friend trading his JMP 2203 in for a JCM 900 Dual Reverb (i still remind him how duh that was, but I can't talk really).

  • @SlowfingerJC
    @SlowfingerJC Před rokem

    I've successfully straightened a positively bowed neck by removing the truss rod nut then forcing the neck in the opposite direction to the bow and carefully heating up the fingerboard with a heat gun. A lot easier than removing the fingerboard.

    The Music. Fantastic. I am only 1/2 way through the stripping...
    Oo oo oo Fret nibs done right with a refret. Binding.
    The color looks darker than a whiskey/tobacco, and with the flame, the color is teriffic. (your b string got out of tune)
    Its georgous with all the period specific stuff.

    How much would you charge for a job nearly identical to this minus the neck and fretboard removal, but on a schecter c shape? No parts assembly or taking apart. Just the wood work. Same colors, and rebinding and satin finish instead of gloss.

  • @TempoDrift1480

    Question: I'm seeing the addition of carbon fiber rods on alot of new guitars' necks to improve stability and rigidity. . Is there any reason you didn't add that to this restore since you had the fretboard off? They are only like $20

  • @patprop74
    @patprop74 Před rokem

    I'm no expert, but I'm rather sure documenting the repairs and restoration not only helped retain the value of the guitar but also probably increase its saleability value much like the Custom shop LP guitars. It's a tad dark but I'm sure many like that effect, the good thing with individual taste is, it ensures someone out there would really love to own it.
