Idk why everybody thinks intermittent fasting has to be starvation. You still eat. You just eat less depending on the day. On lazy days I go the whole morning without eating and avoid snacks/drinks. On active days I eat a lot. You match your diet to your activity. That’s how marathon runners do it, that’s how strongmen do it, and you can do it too.

I have an aunt and uncle left who eat two meals a day. One at 11am and the other at 4pm. So if you think about how the length between 4pm to 11am is, that in itself is practically intermittent fasting as a routine. They do fine, in fact they're in great shape last I heard.

My usual and normal eating pattern resembles intermittent fasting and I love how I feel. I ensure to eat filling meals like beans, eggs, yams, fish, vegetables etc. When you actually eat nutrient dense meals you have little to no urge to snack or eat repeatedly. On most days one good meal keeps me filled and I don't even feel hungry for the rest of the day. On the rare occasion I feel hungry, I eat fruits. That eating pattern is my normal.

Technically the IF diet has MANY definitions and different approaches... There is the classic 12/12, 14/10, 16/8, 20/4, and OMAD versions... there is a method i believe is either 2 day fast followed by 3 days of "normal eating" and there is a 5day/2day method... and long term fasts like this video is demonstrating... and they all have different levels of benefits and downsides... such as the fact that after hitting the 48 hour mark for fasting you begin to break down muscle mass for energy as well as fat. The problem with this type of negative videos is that not everyone understands which version of IF they are talking about... so when scientific studies state "intermittent fasting" but do not clarify the version of IF being used... then those studies are quoted to show negative effects such as muscle loss etc... (which does not occur in fasting methods lower than 48 hours approx) its essentially taken out of context.

I've found the hunger pangs associated with fasting pass after some time. It's just about riding out those pangs. Drinking a cup of warm water helps trick your brain that you're getting something, and generally gives enough time for the feeling to pass. I think it's just about giving yourself something to do until the feeling subsides.

Honestly, and as awful as this sounds, the only way I lost weight was through fasting. I have PCOS and I was seeing an endocrinologist for my issues. They put me on a low carb diet (legit under 40 carbs a day target goal) and it worked fine the first month. I started at 250lbs and then after my first month I lost 10lbs. The second month is when I noticed that I would lose multiple pounds in just a few days of not eating lol! So for the first few weeks of the month I ate whatever I wanted for ONLY one meal a day. I ate Taco Bell, McDonald’s, all of my faves. Right before I had a weigh in I would just not eat anything for a few days prior. Always lost 2-6 lbs every appointment and I never actually gained it back. I just did this cycle for a little under a year and I lost 100 pounds! Your hunger actually goes away surprisingly, it comes back after you’ve not eaten for a few days. Once it comes back that’s the signal to eat again. Usually your stomach is so much smaller the food you’ll eat would be less than what you’re used to. ALSO side note I ate a lot of vitamins throughout this ordeal, I was afraid of not getting any nutrients so I used daily gummies as supplements. Anyways, I got my blood work done after I finished my treatment with the endo, and it came back really good. I had normal levels and was no longer prediabetic! I’m pretty sure I did have headaches every once and a while, but honestly it beats not eating sugar for the rest of my life lmao

The Human Body was designed to not know when the next meal is, so it is perfectly healthy to go a little while without food. Do the 16/8 Split Fasting. 16 hours without eating, and that includes sleeping, and then a 8 hour window to eat. I'm in my second year of fasting and I love it. It's a way of life for me now. In the beginning I almost felt like I had a cold for a couple of days, fatigue, tired, foggy brain over all just not feeling good but by about the third day I felt fine. Hunger was a challenge for about the first 6 months, I would think about food all the time and some days I would just be counting down to when I could eat again. Eventually though it just became routine and honestly two years later I rarely feel much hunger until about an hour before my eating window begins. I'm an early morning worker so my eating window is a little bit different my eating window begins at 6 at night and closes at 10. I went from being as heavy as I've ever been over 200 lbs to the lightest I've been as an adult 168 at that point calories in was equal to calories out and I basically maintained. You must maintain a good workout routine while fasting as you will loose muscle a long with fat in many cases. And that was the case for me so I maintain a 6 day a week 45 min workout routine. Fasting changed my life, I'm in the best shape of my adult years! Truthfully I'll never go back. Once you make it a routine it is super easy to maintain! Truthfully some times it feels like you must be cheating somehow when your eating the things you love and still staying lean.

This is not true. I lost over 50 pounds over nine months doing every-other-day intermittent fasting with virtually zero exercise. You need to remember that your body already has to burn many calories just to keep you alive, and it has evolved over millions of years to recognize when that quota is not being reached by consumed food and get it through burning fat instead.
The whole point of having just as many days where you can eat basically whatever you want as days where you eat very little is to avoid sending it into full “starvation” panic mode, which it is quite effective at doing.

The way I thought y'all don't eat anything for a whole month. And felt immense admiration for the self discipline. Then just recently realize you stuff your face before 5am and after 5pm everyday. 🤣 That's like 12 hours. Just when the time your body ACTUALLY enters fasting mode, you stop it by eating. I wouldn't call that fasting.

This video is about fasting not intermittent fasting. These affects happen from not eating any food for 5+ days. I’ve starved myself for a week and it’s mostly good the first 3 days. But on the 5th day I was getting crazy dizziness and headaches so I gave up and ate some yummy hot food and I instantly felt better. Also after the 2nd day I was sleeping a lot like 10-12 hours. I had lower energy. It was an interesting experience to say the least. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re really curious. Intermittent fasting is much safer and more manageable.

The initial “hunger” is really just you fighting off cravings and your body not used to it. It will pass, I’ve been solidly intermittent fasting for a little over 3 years and it’s a pice of cake, just make sure you eat right when you do eat or at least take supplements like vitamins and extra protein. Your body will be very happy :)

To me the hunger just go away when I'm bussy doing something, if not then is hard to pass it. But is funny how the hunger feeling can just dissapear if you ignore it for the right time. It's hard. I think the only and best way to loose weight is just to burn more than what you eat. So if you like to eat a lot you have to be a f** athlete to compensate

Cravings for the first 3 weeks were bad though. You just need to tell yourself you can do it. Correction: though glycogen IS a storage form of glucose, it does NOT last a week. It is in fact a polymer of glucose, so you burn it the same rate as you would glucose if not just a bit slower. With just normal daily activity, the body burns through glycogen stores in about a day. This is not even considering exercise of any sort. Other than that, very fun watch!

I tried intermittent fasting and it seems ok. Didn’t see huge results but I did see a bit.
What pushed me into trying 20-24hr fasting is when I forgot my diabetes meds when I went on vacation. I thought I was seriously fked. I figured since I get my spikes during meals, I’ll just eat 1 meal a day and the rest of the day my blood sugar should stabilize.
Fast forward 3 months and now I do 20-24 fastings and 2-3days fasting on my days off.
I went from 120-140 average with meds to 85. Yes, a freaking huge drop. So now I stick with fasting and stopped using my meds.
I don’t know if it’ll work for everyone BUT it worked for me.

Fasting has been associated with several health benefits, including weight loss, improved blood sugar control, decreased inflammation, and enhanced heart health. It might also offer protection against certain conditions like cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.
i’m muslim so we fast during the month of ramadan for the sake of our Lord and it can be a little difficult sometimes but personally the only thing that was hard was finding something to do other than eating.
but now today we know that fasting can have benefits to it. obviously if you’re physically ill, pregnant and for medical reasons cannot fast we can either make up our fasts or if it is something we cannot make up due to smt like extreme chronic illness we have ways of compensating for the missed fasts like feeding people ect

An important note to this is that most of these claimed benefits are unsubstantiated or are backed with minimal evidence that is anecdotal. There are some studies backing the benefits to fasting, but they are often highlighting only one key physiological variable and don't take into account long-term effects of short-term actions.
The general consensus from nutritionists and dieticians is don't fast unless you're doing it for faith reasons such as those above. Little real evidence supports fasting being beneficial to an individual's health, and long-term studies providing results of decades after people have practiced it don't really exist.

We really need to update our view on the 3 meals per day routine, because it was created for people who actually needed the extra calories doing hard labor

I try Intermittent fasting sometimes. I use to eat 3 meals a day, but I now eat 2 meals a day or go back to 3 but not eat as much on the 3rd meal. Intermittent fasting is not bad as long as you can handle it. For my type of diet, I don't really need to eat 3 meals a day nor eat bread/carbs. I'm low-carb to Keto and possibly carnivore diet with minimum amount to none of refined sugar products or high carbs (That eventually turns into sugar).
This combination of Intermittent fasting & diet made me lose weight from light obese to average. 😸😎👍

FYI this video is fasting not intermittent fasting. It’s about not eating for multiple days at a time

This video seems to be describing long term religious fasting or starvation. I do appreciate that at the end THIS brain kind of reveals that he didn’t really do any research. Jason Fung is a great resource.
