  • In this lesson Chad provides an introduction to the general mechanism and result of Nucleophilic Addition to aldehydes and ketones. He also explains the reasons behind the general trend in the reactivity of aldehydes and ketones: formaldehyde more reactive than aldehydes more reactive than ketones.
Finally, Chad presents the hydration of aldehydes and ketones reaction including both the base-catalyzed mechanism and the acid-catalyzed mechanism.
I've created an organic chemistry page that organizes all my videos by chapter - just an easier way for you to watch my CZcams videos. Check it out at www.chadsprep.com/chads-organ...

I love the free outlines you give on your website, it really helps with focusing on your lecture rather than just trying to catch up with the notes. I know they are not finished for all videos, but I just wanted to note my appreciation. I would love to buy the course, but I'm a broke boy (sad). Keep doing what your doing man, I love you.

I found this channel recently and I have to say, being primarily a you tube student for the better part of four years, this guy is fucking good. Dives straight into the concept and makes it relatively easy to understand.

At 11:04, the water is a good leaving group, so what's the difference between the priority level of the water leaving vs deprotonation?
