Finished watching The Story of Kunning Palace. It deserves at least a 9.0. Excellent, intricate plotting, intriguing characters, superb acting, and satisfactory finale (or finales). It's the best drama of 2023, along with The Mysterious Lotus Casebook.
Story of Kunning Palace has now become my favourite historical drama so it deserves a higher rating than this. The plot is executed perfectly, the actors were brilliant and it has a wonderful happy ending.

Love every bit of SOKP, the story interwoven the 1st life and the current life quite nicely, if you pay attentions, you would understand which events the FL aims to change. The plot did not slow down from ep1 to 38. It just keeps going and doesn’t slow down. Apart from the overly bright light, and some weird choice of shots, you can feel each character’s feelings and thoughts. It also represents the dark ML the best currently in cdrama land for me, dark but get a HE that he is well deserved. The drama also chose selective ugly shots to avoid romanticising blood thirst/derange/problematic issues. To me, the SOKP is quite fresh, done well, act well, chemistry is on fire, so while the lead don’t get to start their love story line until quite late, the yearning is there from the start. 10/10 for me (yes, even the weird angle shot and bright light did not deter me from enjoying it). Highly recommend to everyone, and as usual douban score is a joke, sorry. It’s way too low.
Yesss I wholeheartedly agree with this, I actually came to actually appreciate these strange angles and back lighting, it's different and unique even though I have always preferred soft warm lighting. The cinematography is really gorgeous though, and ZLH portrayal of Xie Wei is so so enjoyable to watch. The characters are well developed and the plot is coherent and strong, it def deserves at least a 7.5. And def a 10/10 rewatch value
Hi Marcus, Thanks for the updates. I was also surprised that the Douban rating for SOKP was 6.9. It deserved an 8-one of my best dramas this year. I hope Lareina Song's tax issues get solved. I started Journey to Love, and the visuals are excellent; this is definitely one of the first dramas I will watch without skipping the whole episode. I'm excited for Blossoms Shanghai. I am not a big HuGe fan, but I have watched CP3 several times, eager to see Tiffany Tang after not seeing any of her dramas in 4 years. I watched Scream Night Live, and I totally loved that some of my favorites had awards. Thanks for the updates, as always.
I finished SOKP 2days ago and I will say it again that is the best costume drama of this year,every episode tells powerful story and Ending was brilliant 8.0 should be giving to this drama, A Journey to Love is powerful, brilliant from 1 episode to 6 was on fire❤

Story of Kunning P. in my opinion the most attractive of the year, quality even without great sci fi resources. I like it when "good guys" like Zhang Linghe are given the role of a complicated character, he's almost an anti-hero. Wonderful scene from Bai Lu ep 25 when she cries in his arms, so touching and vulnerable even in the tremor of her voice.WoW ! Magnificent actors, the story, the romance and the intrigue catches you until the end. For me the score had to be 8 or 9.
That rating is way too low, I would give it a solid 8.5. I enjoyed the plot, the pace of the drama the development of the main leads’ relationship and romance, and of course the anti-hero ML.

The rating for Kunning Palace is too low. I would have given it 7.5 . It was one of a few no skip dramas for me. The male lead was very good. He played a dark and complicated character very convincingly. His screen presence was awesome, in my opinion.

DB rating was definitely too low. Whether you like the actors or not (and I loved them ALL), they did a spectacular job. I especially liked the couples - the lead couple of course, I love ZLH as a leading role. Those eyes - that mouth! 🔥🔥 And I'm a Bai Lu fan. The villains were sooo well - acted. I despised them all. SOKP rating is lower than I expected. I would give it a 8 at least. I have started A journey to love , and I am loving it. The story , the comic scenes the actors are all good. Lu yuning is as good as I expected of him. Thanks Marcus for the updation s , I always wait for them.
6.9 from that many ratings is not bad , but it definitely deserves at least a 7.5 or 8 imo. yes the directing and editing is definitely unusual at times haha but I can respect the directors creative vision, I've never seen his works before so it was nice to see something unique lol, the lighting is not the best, but the cinematography is gorgeous and plot and script is solid, the acting is beyond amazing especially from the 2 main leads, they were born for these roles !! Their chemistry is also insane and I don't think I will get over Ning'er and Xie Wei anytime soon I love them sm 😭 def one of my favourite dramas this year. I started a journey to love out of curiosity, never seen LYN in a drama before and I am pleasantly surprised, first impression is that it's absolutely beautiful
i love SOKP. I usually skipped politics scene but in SOKP i enjoyed them thoroughly. the messiest part is the love story really but in the end I do appreciate how it shows the darkness and the insecurities of XW when it comes to love. while some may think that we are romanticising forced love at some pt but a closer look the obsessions were both mutual but always mixed with insecurities on both sides.
Story of Kunning Palace should get over 7.0 rating in my opinion. Although I like Zhang Linghe performance and character better in my Journey to you (which douban rating very disappointment too) he is still very good in Story of Kunning Palace. His character reminds me of Ling Buyi in love and the Galaxy. I’m starting with A Journey to love 😊 it looks very good. Cecelia Liu looks so bad ass as assassin 😊 her martial art performance really good already and it’s only ep 1 😆. Cheers Marcus thanks for the update !
SKP score is too low. I'll give at least 8. After so many time we have a really good drama. Super performance by all the actors. If it some other actors, it's score would have been 9. There are fans who gives fake reviews. One such drama is Sunshine by my side. Bai Lu is such an fantastic actor.
I'm hoping to see Liu Yuning in a more romantic relationship in "A Journey To Love" then his past dramas. The score on "Story of Kunning Palace" is ridiculous. Way too low, that is just crazy. I rate it 9.5. I would score it 10 but that would mean that it's perfect and it's not. But it's close. I'm so thrilled to see many of my fave actors/dramas who won awards. They work hard and thus the screams were a wonderful tribute from their fans. I just started "Wonderland of Love" (btw I can't stand the title, it doesn't fit the plotline at all. Xu Kai and Jing Tian play these great characters and it's so not a romance drama. It's an action drama and it has me binging. It feels like an old school drama, like the original version of Siong Hoi Tan. I want to watch Journey To Love right now but I can't, sob. It has to go behind the other three dramas on my list, and if they show Last Immortal early next month, like the rumor, I'll just have to find a cave somewhere and not come out until 2024. LOL. I've been reading the novels first to make sure I like the endings before starting. I'm weird like that. Opening Douban Ratings for Kunning Palace is too low. I wonder why. The plot was intriguing and the ML character was riveting. I'll write more about it when I'm done but maybe people who rated felt it was too like Scent of Time, which ended while Kuning started. It seems that, lately, Douban ratings all seem on the low side. I'm watching SOKP and agree with those who say it's rating is on the low side as well. But considering Douban's "score card," 6.9 may not be too low for them.
I'm so excited for Blossoms Shangai! I was won over when I heard Wong Kar-Wai ❤ and to have also Hu Ge! Nirvana in Fire is still my favourite costume drama, nothing else has managed to top it yet. I'm so looking forward to this!
Totally disagree with that rating for TSKP. I'm not someone who understands really how those scores are really determined, if it's only by views, popularity of the cast, cinematography, etc. But as an avid Asian drama lover, in my humble opinion, this has got to be one of the really outstanding dramas that I've watched in the past year. To the point that I dare say it would deserve an Emmy nomination if it was made here in the USA. My God, in my opinion, the rating deserved nothing less than (9.6)

A Journey to love is sooooo good. I am curious if others here have watched "Only for love" with Dylan Wang and Bai Lu? I have 2 episodes to go to finish it. It was a struggle but I have gotten this far, I must see it to the end. It is not a showcase for their talents that's for sure. I know it was adapted from a book, but the two lead characters are hard to like and watch. I'm also watching "I may love you" with Miles Wei and Huang Ri Ting, starts off really bad but around the 5th episode you start to get the FL character. I can't remember if you had shared these two dramas, but I like the people in them. I truly enjoy Wonderland of Love, lots of action scenes and they ML/FL have great chemistry and there is humor! I will start SOKP tomorrow, hope it's worth it, mixed reviews here. Anyway, thank you for your updates. Hope you and your family have a lovely holiday season. Those 20s eps of "Only For Love" were indeed a struggle, thankfully ep 31 to the end the drama goes back to its decent path, there is a 36.5 ep that I haven't seen yet though.
I dropped and went on to catch Stand or Fall instead and watched that twice because it was so good and the leads' chemistry was so mature and sexy. Their witty banter beats all those CEO long stares and princess carries and misunderstandings that don't get talked about and horrible females that go criminally insane, LOL.
Not too happy with Iqiyi though, Kunning Palace may have finished its run, but subscribers had to pay additional $$$ just to watch the last 4 eps. Becos of this express viewing, A journey to love hasn't been uploaded onto iqiyi platform, resulting in us watching the new drama on other illegal online platform, which had uploaded 6 eps. Btw, a journey to love is really good and highly recommended.

I like this drama but the pacing isn’t fantastic and some of the editorial choices are just bad. I get why it got this rating.
The drama has a good script but the photography and directing aren't the best. I would understand the score it receive.

SOKP rating is lower than I expected. I would give it a 8 at least. I have started A journey to love , and I am loving it. The story , the comic scenes the actors are all good. Lu yuning is as good as I expected of him. Thanks Marcus for the updation s , I always wait for them.
Openning rating for Kunning is too low. I quite like the drama. The story is distinctive and the leading roles are unique, esp the male lead.

6.9 from that many ratings is not bad , but it definitely deserves at least a 7.5 or 8 imo. yes the directing and editing is definitely unusual at times haha but I can respect the directors creative vision, I've never seen his works before so it was nice to see something unique lol, the lighting is not the best, but the cinematography is gorgeous and plot and script is solid, the acting is beyond amazing especially from the 2 main leads, they were born for these roles !! Their chemistry is also insane and I don't think I will get over Ning'er and Xie Wei anytime soon I love them sm 😭 def one of my favourite dramas this year.
I started a journey to love out of curiosity, never seen LYN in a drama before and I am pleasantly surprised, first impression is that it's absolutely beautiful
i love SOKP. I usually skipped politics scene but in SOKP i enjoyed them thoroughly.
the messiest part is the love story really but in the end I do appreciate how it shows the darkness and the insecurities of XW when it comes to love. while some may think that we are romanticising forced love at some pt but a closer look the obsessions were both mutual but always mixed with insecurities on both sides.
What do you expect from douban really it filled with full of antis who vanti even appreciate good drams like SOKP👊
Story of Kunning Palace should get over 7.0 rating in my opinion. Although I like Zhang Linghe performance and character better in my Journey to you (which douban rating very disappointment too) he is still very good in Story of Kunning Palace. His character reminds me of Ling Buyi in love and the Galaxy. I’m starting with A Journey to love 😊 it looks very good. Cecelia Liu looks so bad ass as assassin 😊 her martial art performance really good already and it’s only ep 1 😆.

SKP score is too low. I'll give at least 8. After so many time we have a really good drama. Super performance by all the actors. If it some other actors, it's score would have been 9. There are fans who gives fake reviews. One such drama is Sunshine by my side. Bai Lu is such an fantastic actor.
I'm hoping to see Liu Yuning in a more romantic relationship in "A Journey To Love" then his past dramas.
The score on "Story of Kunning Palace" is ridiculous. Way too low, that is just crazy. I rate it 9.5. I would score it 10 but that would mean that it's perfect and it's not. But it's close.
I'm so thrilled to see many of my fave actors/dramas who won awards. They work hard and thus the screams were a wonderful tribute from their fans.
I just started "Wonderland of Love" (btw I can't stand the title, it doesn't fit the plotline at all. Xu Kai and Jing Tian play these great characters and it's so not a romance drama. It's an action drama and it has me binging.

I am so pumped for ‘A Journey to Love’ I’ve been anticipating high quality Wuxi’s Drama. It’s finally here, I’m halfway through Kunning Palace it’s NOT that bad. I was expecting 7.0 opening rating at the very least.

The Knockout was absolutely a masterpiece. The best modern drama I ever saw. The deaf brother has really been in a lot of great roles as well including Journey to Love

I have to find an extra month this year to watch everything I want to watch! Talk about the dry season being over for dramaland whew! And YES TO SHANGHAI BLOSSOM. Omg. Wong Kar Wai. I cannot wait. It feels like an old school drama, like the original version of Siong Hoi Tan.
I want to watch Journey To Love right now but I can't, sob. It has to go behind the other three dramas on my list, and if they show Last Immortal early next month, like the rumor, I'll just have to find a cave somewhere and not come out until 2024. LOL. I've been reading the novels first to make sure I like the endings before starting. I'm weird like that.
Opening Douban Ratings for Kunning Palace is too low. I wonder why. The plot was intriguing and the ML character was riveting. I'll write more about it when I'm done but maybe people who rated felt it was too like Scent of Time, which ended while Kuning started. But it's just the shell that's the same, the meat inside is different.

Too low a score for The Story of Kunning Palace. And on a side note, only Zhang Ling He could get Bai Lu into bed like that. 😂 One second she's pushing him away, then he says "I want you" and curtains on the bed start closing. I was like wth just happened? 😳😂

I'm looking forward to watching Love of Nirvana. Mainly because of Landi Li. First time watched her in Starry love and I was quite impressed by her acting skills.
Yesterday completed Rising with the wind. Really loved it. The chemistry between the leads was very good. Story was realistic and inspiring at the same time. One of the best dramas of the year, at least for me.
Currently watching, Story of kunning palace ep 24. Loving it so far. The rating is very low according to me.

It seems that, lately, Douban ratings all seem on the low side. I'm watching SOKP and agree with those who say it's rating is on the low side as well. But considering Douban's "score card," 6.9 may not be too low for them.

Totally disagree with that rating for TSKP. I'm not someone who understands really how those scores are really determined, if it's only by views, popularity of the cast, cinematography, etc. But as an avid Asian drama lover, in my humble opinion, this has got to be one of the really outstanding dramas that I've watched in the past year. To the point that I dare say it would deserve an Emmy nomination if it was made here in the USA. My God, in my opinion, the rating deserved nothing less than (9.6)
I agree with everyone else who said that SOKP deserves a higher rating. It's a very well executed historical drama and I was obsessed with it when it aired.

A Journey to love is sooooo good. I am curious if others here have watched "Only for love" with Dylan Wang and Bai Lu? I have 2 episodes to go to finish it. It was a struggle but I have gotten this far, I must see it to the end. It is not a showcase for their talents that's for sure. I know it was adapted from a book, but the two lead characters are hard to like and watch. I'm also watching "I may love you" with Miles Wei and Huang Ri Ting, starts off really bad but around the 5th episode you start to get the FL character. I can't remember if you had shared these two dramas, but I like the people in them. I truly enjoy Wonderland of Love, lots of action scenes and they ML/FL have great chemistry and there is humor! I will start SOKP tomorrow, hope it's worth it, mixed reviews here. Anyway, thank you for your updates. Hope you and your family have a lovely holiday season. Those 20s eps of "Only For Love" were indeed a struggle, thankfully ep 31 to the end the drama goes back to its decent path, there is a 36.5 ep that I haven't seen yet though.

I dropped and went on to catch Stand or Fall instead and watched that twice because it was so good and the leads' chemistry was so mature and sexy. Their witty banter beats all those CEO long stares and princess carries and misunderstandings that don't get talked about and horrible females that go criminally insane, LOL.
Not too happy with Iqiyi though, Kunning Palace may have finished its run, but subscribers had to pay additional $$$ just to watch the last 4 eps. Becos of this express viewing, A journey to love hasn't been uploaded onto iqiyi platform, resulting in us watching the new drama on other illegal online platform, which had uploaded 6 eps.
Btw, a journey to love is really good and highly recommended.
