What is YOUR best and worst MMO of 2024?
FFXIV will remain the best MMO on the market until someone steps up to create something remotely close in scale and polish. Riot's MMO might be able to do that, but I can't see anyone else coming close. For worst, I hate to say it, but Tree of Savior. I wanted it SO badly to be the spiritual successor to Ragnarok, to bring that vibe into the modern day, but it just didn't handle it well. It's such a beautiful game, I'm so sad it's not as fun as it could have been.
@@kat-rau. That's what happens when you mix incompetent devs with a p2w model, the game had so much potential... I love class system and it's a shame it's no longer used in current games. Riot's MMO and the MMO of the team formed by former employees of Riot, Blizzard, etc. Have great potential to revive the MMO genre.
I know the MMO is old, but you should try out Conquer Online. It is one of the oldest MMOs that still has servers up.
Final fantasy 14 is my Favorit mmo and Favorit game. Love the story, the content, the community etc...
Good MMOs off that lost: ESO, SWTOR, PoE, old secret world, Warframe, GW2, EQ2, RuneScape, Eve, Neverwinter and LOTRO. Most the rest that I've tried are pure shit. Black desert would be good if it didn't have such a shit interface and actually did something towards informing players WTF we supposed to be doing and what did what.
Wow is shit though... Sorry. Hate the art style, community, loot mechanics, business model, developers....
Oh and you forgot Diablo 4. It's technically an MMO especially if you put lost ark and PoE on the list.
But you're putting horizontal combat games on there so rule of thumb for next year: either classify it better or get busy because if it has a social hub and you can play with 3+ people at a time and it requires an active Internet connection it's an MMO and you gonna have to address it homie.
I still hate and will always hate Anime MMOs. I am still subbed to your channel because you and your wife seem cool and like once or twice a year you cover something that isn't anime.

the fact that these mmos can survive and Wildstar could not baffles me every day until my dying day.
I am so bored lately. I used to play games all the time. Now I just sit in front of my laptop wasting time wishing there was something new and exciting today. None of the games on this list peaked my interest. If they ever make an MMO where I can build my own place, has a real economy where I can feel like my efforts paid off, tons of legendary items to find, and a huge world to explore...I'd definitely play that. But nothing has even come close yet.

I wish you put Wakfu in there!!! I personally like Wakfu over waven for it's world, party play, politics, pvp, animations but both are cool. Some still like Dofus over those two ( same company ) which also still gets updates.

Wow, this tier list is like a treasure trove for MMO enthusiasts! As someone who's always on the lookout for the next epic adventure, seeing all these titles ranked and discussed is super helpful.
I played pretty much all games from D to S Tier and quite a few of the lower Tiered games aswell and i m suprised how much i agree with you. For me Lost ark is a little low and ToF is a little hight on the list. i think everything from A is really enjoyable and hard to put into tier list since it appeals to a completely different playerbase if you look at games like maplestory, lost ark and new world they can easily be Top Tier games if you are into that kind of games
This video perfectly outlines the issues in the genre. with BDO hitting 10 years old this December, we can see that the upper tiers are plagued with games that are a decade+ old. Furthermore, just look at the numbers and count how many MMO's are in the top three tiers compared to the bottom three. There are over twice as many D-E-F MMO entries as there are SS-S-A entries.
I prefer if you put some short gameplay footage, just so i can see if i like the graphics/art

Very Excited for Mirandus coming out! Not quite a release this year, but will be a permanent playtest (so basically open beta) soon. Maybe by this time next year itll make it on this list to the SS tier
How would you rank Aura Kingdom?
Always a bit saddened at the fact that no (American/English-speaking) CZcamsr mentions Tibia (or any other mmo that had a predominant EU/international playerbase) for a single second even when it has maintained a decent active international population even after 25+ years. Especially when there are games mentioned in this video which are way more obscure. I guess it mainly comes down to the popularity they had in English-speaking regions at the time they peaked/released.

Just started FF14 this last week as a free trial player and a surprising amount of things to do.
Yeah, it's a lot when you're new. Once you finish the WHOLE game, you'll begin to notice bosses are the same, just reskins, the content all feels the same, people leeching in dungeons because they queue with their friends and then force kick you if you disagree to leeches, and that the market is flooded by bots that make you even super rare items super cheap so no matter how hard you grinded for something, I'll sell for probably 1mil gil lmao
Not to mention you can probably finish the whole _whole_ *WHOLE* game in probably 1 month or less and now you're paying $15 a month to be bored out of your mind with repetitive content since once you hit the max gear cap, literally there is nothing to do after that unless you're an achievement hunter 😂
PS. Hope you're not a soloist or hope you don't play anything that isn't Aura, Cat, Lion, Rabbit, or Lalafell. Because all human races in FFXIV are treated like aliens from another world. So if you favour Highlander, Midlander, or Elezen, you'll be an outcast and people will look at you like you're a creep if you try to befriend them.
But if you were a cat or Aura on the other hand, it's all "UwUs" and sunshines in terms of making friends. 😂😂

You missed the SSS+ class game The Day Before. A real breakthrough for the MMO survival genre. It has such realistic and a beautiful open world that blows all these games away.

Mabinogi still (since 20 years) has the most unique combat system/feel I've ever seen in any game, and is still the most unique mmo. I'm still waiting to see an mmo more unique than Mabinogi XD also it's getting an unreal 5 update soon SOMEHOW lol

Hey man, i know im 3 weeks late but no. There is no difference other than the fact that you cannot use a normal anet account on steam version of the game without doing some weird workaround. Both steam and normal launcher players play on same servers, of course.

BnS Live is sadly terrible, but BnS Classic has very good potential. Some games have successfully been able to release older versions of their games, and keep them relatively in tact, and those versions of the game become wildly popular. Think OSRS, Classic WoW, etc. If they can manage to re-release the game as it was in 2016, with the graphics update, and QoL updates they've shown (easier upgrade paths, less extra trinkets/equipment slots, less grindy loot), it has real potential to shoot BnS up to a high tier MMO. It was one of the best on the market in 2016. If they can replicate that, and even improve it, it'll be a banger MMO.
Yeah, best pvp arena, best combat system, bosses mechanics. My choice was BNS over BDO, cause bdo need more multiplayer activities and a little boring for me. But BNS left it best years before 2022.

HOWEVER, they are now introducing a 100% guarantee pity system, which I think is HUGE for people who hate RNG like me
there are so many mmorpgs out there that I love it when there is mention of old/niche games I used to play way back in the day. Definitely had a few old ones that I haven't heard of in a while, but want to shout out also runes of magic, conquer online, xenimus, and rappelz as some nostalgic ones that weren't mentioned. maybe give them a try? lol.

You should try Toram Online, why is no one talking about it? Toram Online is basically near A - SS Tier. It has wide custom skills (being a dual wielder and a mage), great monetization (trading, selling items with market style system), Non Pay-2-win, Great community interactions in game, with guilds, great story, average battle system, very outstanding music. It's a crime that it's not even the list.

I personally would of dropped PoE one tier lower. I get it's a very good game and I agree, but the amount of effort it takes to get into it is very intimidating and an aspect the team themselves have stated they are trying to address in PoE 2.

Waven needs to sell his idea of solo play because, otherwise, it will die like wakfu (endgame is just the same people with the same parties doing the same content). so it's hard to get a team and you end-up doing every hole by yourself (wakfu videos are 6 characters controlled by one person).

I agree with BDO being in the SS tier. Been playing it for little over a year and I've never seen an MMO improve in stages so fast. The best improvement being the reduced price of pearls. They were initially ridiculously expensive, it made me question why people even bought them.
From what I've come to understand, there's still no PVE endgame though right? That's whats been keeping me from really giving it a go. I'm not a fan of PVP and without that its just boring life skill stuff and playing the market game.

I agree that if you're not a fan of both pvp and lifeskills, the game's pretty much meh... I don't like pvp either, but I have no issue with lifeskills, I'm in no rush to reach the peak.

Lost Ark is way too high. You aren't aware how bad it is for new players. Even if you quit for like 2-3 months you will have a bad time for the next 6 months or something. It's insane.
Also Amazon has nothing to do with the flaws. The censorship is barely present and they just publish it. Smile Gates is to blame.

@MMOByte Hmm, give it a try. You can get GW 1 and the expansions / add ons (whichever you prefer to call them) pretty cheap now. In all honesty, at first, I thought the level cap was kinda low, but then the challenges that the game offered it made more sense. Plus, not to spoil any surprises, but being able to travel all expansions / add ons with a GW 1 character (and vice versa with characters from all of the expansions / add ons, I found that to be pretty cool).
Unfortunately GW1 is kinda dead. Was probably the best MMO ever in its golden years.

Me and my mate HATED black desert. i first open it up, get past the into and i am FUCKING BOMBARDED with thousands of icons. the game combat felt loose and janky. I didn't know what the fuck was going on at any time. The quests were so fucking boring. the story was trash. me and my mate played it for like 3-4 hours and deleted it.
idk why no one ever made a mmorpg on a concept like RF online, 3 race war auto open world race pvp and such. it's a good game that still have player base scattered in private servers.
Yo RF online was actually fire! I loved the opening theme for that game as well with that beautiful cinematic- have had that song on the top of my music playlists to this very day.

it's hard to get into but I think it deserves that top spot.
I feel like BDO pretty much ruined all other MMORPG's for me, after i started playing it at NA launch, apart from jumping back into WoW every now and then, no other game managed to hold my attention anymore. I admit, i got spoiled by BDO and im not sure what game would have had to come out to dethrone it in my mind. Sure it has had issues, especially in the past, but honestly now days almost all negatives have been resolved by PA. It helps that it is one of the most unique games in this genre on the market. If only story would get better, but for that i go to WoW even though it has fallen a bit in recent years, that game has the most memorable characters of any MMORPG i have ever played so for story alone i go to that one, but for combat and everything else BDO is unmatched in my mind
DO NOT PLAY GUILD WARS 2 FIRST. Ffxiv is like waking up into an mmo for the first time. Guild wars 2 Pretends you know what your doing & is 50x speed everything. Play Ffxiv first then Guild Wars 2. Then you can never see Grass again playing Black Desert. Your life is Now Gone & More time is all you want. Happy Ending
gw2 gameplay is insane but a tad too complicated i'd say. Not much people understand/know how to play the game sadly are therefore the endgame tryharding content is lacking (since it's not worth for them to spend ressources on this type on content) Otherwise, the game is really really really cool on a casual side!
Spent years in FFXIV and wow. Been and continue to play ToF since release with over 3k time played on the Steam client. Interesting where you placed it given the number of drama vids you post on it, but fair.

Hypixel skyblock is my faveourite MMO of all time. Its not actually skyblock, if you've never played it, look into it.
I've played things like final fantasy and wow, but this. Theres just so much to do, to collect, and you're always in control of what you do. Any way you play will progress your account.
I would also look into legal mods which are cosmetic. Namely optifine with the skyblock resource pack to retexture all the items that use the same model (since vanilla minecraft is limited that way). And if you want quick crafting you need at least vip rank, but it lasts forever.
I know its not like the other typical mmos since its on a minecraft server, but for me, it doesn't even compare. This blows the others away. Depends what you're looking for in an mmo i guess. This one just leaves so much room for creativity and it felt natural getting into it because its so familiar. Yeah, i'm not playing as a character in a story driven world or get to choose my race ect. Instead, its my mc character that i've had since i was like 10. Feels a lot more personal.
It can get grindy though, but it has idle elements too with minions, so you could still take a break and get stuff done.

Riders of icarus was soo good at launch 😭 i think 2016 i really loved it. Also Raiderz i miss it so much 😭
My biggest problem with FF14 is that I never understand the world of Final Fantasy. It never appealed to me for some reason. I can tell it's a well made game, but I have never connected with the universe of FF.
On the other hand, I always loved the story and universe of SWTOR. The combat is quite static and the graphics and character customization is not very good, but it is still the best MMO I have played. I don't play much anymore, but if you like Star Wars and want a fully voiced story with multiple classes and lots of nice lore, then I still recommend it.
Star Trek Online is kinda cool, but very complicated. Building your ship and character is very confusing to me. I like the universe, once again, but I just can't get into it anymore.
I have considered giving BDO yet another try. But forced PVP was always something I didn't like.
You should really try BDO again. Forced PVP isn't really an issue IMO, as there are a lot of drawbacks for random PVP kills and not a lot of benefit. Of course I don't know about your experience, but I have played around 900 hours and have been killed maybe 10 times. Just be careful, the game is so addicting that the whole "2nd job" cliche can come very true very fast. Have fun :)
DDo F games broken had to repeat quests 30x jut to complete it once. Path of Exile F they give you -30+ to stats at end and pissed me off

Aion Online was SS tier for me until the 2nd or 3rd expansion and decreased very hard when the main dev team left NC Soft with L3 project and make TERA Online with their Bluehole Studio. Today i give an E or F too but i still come back to see new maps and armor sets (because i love so much his korean armor and weapon designs and his korean fantasy atmosphere). And NC Soft NEVER made that Aion Vision video a reality. WoW was SS for me for many years BUT fallen very hard when Blizzard just make that SHIT for players leveling in only one expansion map (you can simply discard the other maps if you want and its really bad which even E or F tier mmos leveling map design are better) and dropped all my characters levels (i had to level all again). I was like WTF?! I really want to play Dragonflight and the upcoming expansion BUT i'm afraid Blizzard could do this same shit again in future. I'm thinking to return to FFXIV on this month or on the next because i loved the last two expansions and level more characters or classes. Black Desert is an option for me to see the new classes BUT i remember which i really HATE his equipment system and equipment drop system.

Great list. I would play the ones you recommend on SS tier. I would swap GW2 with Tree of Savior. I would add Lineage 2 privater servers to top tier SS. Lost Ark to bottom of everything. TL and BP if released, they will go top, specially TL. But the best game will be PoE 2, mmorpgs are mediocre at best these days.

You realize wakfu has a more populated server that only lets you have 1 character right? No sidesicks, nothing. Promotes party play.

Grand Fantasia personally for me is such an amazing and wonderful world it was such an amazing game... but like the most games its extrem P2W and no new players are playing it

Side notes:
-BDO while beautiful, is a grind treadmill with nothing really going on at endgame last I checked. NW/Siege is and has been the usual suspects nonstop for years with virtually no way to close the gear gap, while the servers can't support the fights they intend to promote. Only 2 BG's and nothing but METAs in AoS. So, pvp is meh unless you want to tag a META and learn it.
The new jiggly pixel females( I mean classes) are always overtuned for cash shop grabs. They've consistently neglected their sea content. The endgame pve is now just reskinned old zones and self-instanced boss fights. I say this as someone with 30000+ hours and more cash sank in it than I'd like to admit.
It may be better than the majority of other games we have, but that's the sad fact isn't it? Its been almost 10 years.. nothing..
Everquest will always have a spot in my heart. I started playing in the Planes of Power expansion and fell it love with it.
The lore, the vastness of the world, the raids, etc, its just marvelous. But the game looks like 2 potatoes slowly growing mold compared to 2008 standards... My god if they'd invest in cloning it to a modern engine, I'd be back in a heartbeat.

Every MMORPG out now has some major flaw that just makes playing it tiresome: old graphics, boring combat, idiotic endgame, p2w, etc. Very tragic day and age to be an MMORPG fan.
