    The first numbers are for the ultimate tensile strength, so 60,70,80-110, then the position, 1,2 ECT, the last is for coating type. 0,11 are cellulose, 4 is iron powder. 8 is low hydrogen. You can look them up as there are many different kinds of rods.

    Very nicely done and quite educational. Do you or does anyone you know run ESAB's rods of the same types? If so how do they compare?

    • @WTFChuk
      @WTFChuk Před 6 lety

      I prefer ESAB rods, but these days most of my stick welding is repair, maintenance, or special purpose. ESAB has a crapload of different stick electrodes, including I'm sure rods for dissimilar or hard to weld materials and hardfacing alloys that would work for what I need, but I generally stick with what I know. I use Castolin's Eutectrode 680 for hard-to-weld stuff (including nodular iron to steel)and buildup or butter layers for hardfacing, and either Castolin or Stoody hardfacing electrodes (ESAB owns Stoody now) for wearfacing parts.
      For the most part I TIG or MIG, but for odd-ball stuff TIG is either too slow or doesn't have the filler material available, and MIG requires changing out the spool and sometimes the gas (to straight argon), which is a PITA. Stick has the widest assortment of different alloys; you can darn near weld anything with all the different electrodes available, and changing from one to another only takes as long as changing a rod, so it's convenient for those types of jobs. Besides, aside from the fumes I kinda enjoy stick welding. But then again, I like gas welding and brazing too. :D

There is bohler fox cell 6010, and fox cell mo which is 7010... and... we do all of our roots on negative polarity. It is written on a box that correct root polarity with fox cell is DCEN....

      There is a difference between 5/32 and a 5mm a 5mm is accually a 3/16 and usually a pipeliner rod. so a 5mm pipeliner 7010 is different then a 5/32 7010 does that make sence.

      Chase I don’t so I doubt they do, maybe if welding I beam racks but prob not because 7018 is more useful

    • @RCRCustoms
      @RCRCustoms Před 6 lety +1

      Chase the 2 in the 7024 means it's a flat position only rod, not much good for pipe I wouldn't think.

    • @JacobSchofield
      @JacobSchofield  Před 6 lety +1

      exactly what ecr125x and rcrcustoms said ive acually never used it. 7018 we use a lot of for structural or any uphill processes. there is also tig but we will get into that in a later eposoid .

    • @ecr125x
      @ecr125x Před 6 lety

      RCRCustoms when I welded I beams/structural I was welding the fasteners overhead, I left for lunch n when I came back the guy ways cursing n asking how I had a few hundred done and he only got 5 or 6 done in 30 mins... I told him to try and use an all position rod like 6010 instead of the 6022 (decking rod to plug weld galvanized) this guy was in his 50’s claiming that he’d been welding for 30 years and had no idea what the numbers on the rods meant. He quit a few weeks later...

      ecr125x it happens all the time my friend LOL
      I was on a job welding stainless wear plates to carbon steel kilns in a paper mill and my cross shift on days with well over 100 years of combined welding experience (some 30 and 40+ year members) and not one of these guys had ever done stainless. It was a good lesson for the apprentices I was working with, because we had to fix the God awful horrible mess they left us LOL
      If you don't know ask right. That's why these are such great videos that Jacob puts out. I'm not a Pipeliner but I love to learn, and these guys are always an inspiration and make me want to go out and pick up a couple of tins of 5P+ dress up a handful of coupons and just start burning rod.
