    Agree so much about She is a Haunting - so many good elements and then it’s like the author couldn’t quite get the very end to work right. Awww hey again Chewy 💖

    I’m so glad that you brought up crediting artists whose artwork you use! I’ve been wondering about that. I use a lot of fanart in my book spreads and I always try to get the artist’s permission to have their art visible if I post the spreads on Instagram or on my CZcams channel. This may be quite a lot of work and has included making accounts on various social media I normally don’t use, but it is also an amazing way to connect with the artists who love the same books, and sometimes the authors if they hold the right to the image! They appreciate it sooo much and I’ve had some fun chats. Sometimes they have even sent me pictures previously not posted by them! No one has ever said no and only rarely have I not been able to reach the artist. Then I usually mention them in the voiceover and tag them in the description.

    Hey there! I'm still watching, but I just wanted to pause before I forget and recommend Liliana Bodoc's Saga de los Confines. I don't know what the translation is like, but they are three amazing, moving, heart-wrenching, stunning books with really gorgeous prose. If I'm not mistaken the english titles are The Days of the Deer, The Days of Shadows and The Days of Fire. It's a very poetic, painful take on precolombine america and the very beginning of colonization from the perspective of the native peoples, in the form of an epic with lots of fantasy elements. The native peoples in this series are not at all a 1-to-1 of the nations that existed and still exist today, I should clarify. It is fiction, and fantasy.
    Liliana Bodoc is from Mendoza, Argentina. I feel particularly close to these books considering I am from the "Confines", but for a lot of other reasons too
    I just think you'd really enjoy it, from what I've seen of your wrap ups. I do hope the translation does the prose justice, insofar as that is possible.
    On a very different note, have you read The Expanse? I'm currently reading book three and loving it (especially book one)

    I have a book recommendation for you: It's called Orpheus Builds a Girl by Heather Parry. It's a literary historical gothic psychological thriller sci-fi retelling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice meets Frankenstein (and i guess there's some Hades and Persephone, but not the romanticized version). I thought it was incredible and i think that this could be a you-book

    Thanks for all the book suggestions. Just a quick note that it is Jesmyn Ward. I put the book on my ever growing list. And too bad about the sequels to Wool being bland, I'll probably just read the first one.

    For anyone who's interested in reading a Chinese classic, Family by Ba Jin is a great book imo. It's set in early 1920s Chengdu and follows the generational conflicts in a wealthy family. Ba Jin's portrayal of women is actually not bad considering the time period. The second book in the series is actually more focused on how society treats women, with a focus on arranged marriages. I can't vouch for the English translation since I read it in Chinese, but either way it's an interesting look at the ideological conflicts that were arising in early 20th century China. It's also apparently semi-autobiographical!

    I felt exactly the same way about Wool, Shift and Dust.
    I'm interested in how your annotation process feeds into writing your reviews - wouldn't it mean you have to go through the whole book again afterwards to collect your thoughts/notes, or do you also write notes outside the book as you go? If the latter, what purpose do the annotations serve, other than highlighting quotes to collect? Thanks!

    • @PlantBasedBride
      @PlantBasedBride  Před 25 dny

      I find the process of annotating as I read makes my thoughts on a book stick better in my brain, so I usually don’t have to go back in refer to them to write my review! But if I do you want to look up something it’s easy to find ☺️
