Great video. You explained everything so well in regards to the rain barrels, my question is actually about your gutter guards. I have been debating on adding them for a while now. I live in an area with many maple trees so a lot of leaves and seeds (helicopters) fall into my gutters. I have heard some say that the leaves and debris can actually sit on the gutter guards and cause them not to work, allowing water not to find its way thru. What are your thoughts on them. Thanks
Some years ago I ran across a video of a college test for rain water harvesting. They dug a pit in a back yard lined it with heavy pond liner and filled it with rock, added a sump pump and covered it with Fabric then sand and lastly sod. It also had a house gutter piped in so it gathered water from the roof and directly through the yard.I thought at the time that it was a very clever system .I also wondered how much more capacity it would have if it was filled with hollow heavy duty wiffle balls?
Thanks for this video! Do you notice any algae growth with the white barrels? I bought some white ones to use for both garden and to drink in case of an emergency....but friends said white barrels are not ideal. Curious what you think. Thanks! ☮️💜
I have yet to develop any algae but I would highly recommend black (or even the blue) barrels over the white to solve for the very thing you mentioned, of this is something you’re worried about. Good luck and let me know if you have questions.
thanks man iam building mine and i needed ideas
Great system! We don’t even have gutters. Livin on the edge walking outside when it rains. 😊 But your rig is legit.

What is the emergency hose for? I wasnt totally understanding. Your set up is rad we are working on a 3 barrel system now. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! It’s set up to take water from our well, just in case a lack of rain to replenish the water tanks, since we water the garden crops from it.
