And mcLeod - he is so often really so ineffective. If one looks at the 2nd goal against - he swerves 'out of the way' of the shot on goal to avoid getting hit - when other players attempt to block shots. He is really afraid and so often playing to protect himself - avoiding the net etc - which has to be a clear cut reason to abandon/get another player. 27 playoff shifts - no assists, goals, few shots.. A team killer - then Bouch doing similar on the 3rd goal against - was in line to block Lindell shot into the empty net - but swerves away from the net to give Lindell a direct shot into an open net. (but has been otherwise good)

Agreed. Mcleod needs to man up if he wants to keep playing in the playoffs. He started getting a bit more physical but he ALWAYS cowers when it's a race to the puck and there's a chance he might get hit. He needs to be willing to take a hit in order to keep the play moving.

I sort of agree, a lot of his passes are getting picked off and his straight line speed isn't there, however, in tight and in short spaces he still seems to move very well, spin and avoid big hits. He is still making plays and creating things, especially in game one. He played well 3 games in a row, game 6 and 7 vs Van and game 1 vs Dallas so this was an off night for him. A bit of rest and home game in front of a rabid crowed he might be able to turn it up a notch and have another big game!

Skinner lets in the first shot. Oilers respond with depth scoring less than a minute later when Brown gets a goal (rebound from original shot and that's why it's important have someone there in case there is a rebound). After that, scoring wise, all Dallas. Both PP's at 0% (again) and both PK's at 100% (again). Oilers shot 4 more shots, hit less (20 to 31), won one more faceoff, had one more giveaway, 6 fewer takeaways (so less than half) and really blocked a lot fewer shots (9 to 22 for Dallas). Both Oettinger and Skinner were stars of the game with Oettinger letting in 1 and Skinner letting in 2 (plus an empty netter). Ekholm's shot off of the knob of Oettinger's stick plus the Marchment deflection are coming to mind concerning missed opportunities but. The Oilers big guns didn't score. Honestly the stats don't really explain either of the first two games very well as it was close to a coin toss either way. There were some "questionable" calls and some non-calls (the crosscheck on Ekholm by way of example) but the ref's weren't the biggest issue. Neither was getting "to" Oettinger, it was getting it past him plus an unlucky deflection that got past Skinner. That was the game really. While I wish the Oilers would have blocked more shots on this night I don't know if it would have made a difference as Skinner stopped all but 2 and at least one of those involved a supersize me dose of luck on Marchment's part. Take care all.

I say throw a major wrinkle into this series for game 3. Take out Mcleod, Carrick and Ryan, Put in Sam Gagner, Perry and Henrique! get some fresh guys in there, throw the stars a curve ball. I think Gagner will come with some good energy, he will work and grind and get a big goal! Perry will be rested and stir the pot, get under the skin of some of the stars players and Henrique will also be fresh and provide some steady two way play all game long!

That effort was NOT going to block the shot, that effort was let me look like I'm trying to cover the guy at the point. BLOCKING the shot is going at the defenceman HARD and then making some sort of effort such as a goalie move OR sliding on the ground. What McLeod did was.... "let me make it look like I'm trying to cover my point". Come on, did you even play hockey?

A former oiler said that Holloway reminds them of a young Adam Graves from the ‘90 cup. I agree, great to see him finding his stride.
I agree with Bruce, McLeod has been a weak link in the oilers cog recently. Why not move Nuge down to the third line if Henrique comes back? Then McLeod can move down the lineup and Ryan doesn’t have to play centre. Now that we have depth I’d like to see the “Centre’s Three” setup before we go “nuclear” lol

Mcleod needs to sit. I appreciate him throwing more body checks but the number of soft plays he makes is ridiculous.
That 4th line has played really well. It would be a slap in their face if they took one of them out.
These games are not going to be won with team speed! The stars neutralized McDavid's speed yesterday. Oilers were held to the perimeter and that needs to change. They need people willing to stand in front of the net. Look for tips, rebounds etc. They need to hit hard on the forecheck. Dallas D is finesse over size. Wear them down.
With the structured style the game has evolved to, offense is becoming more and more dependent on bounces rather than that perfect play. If the Oilers keep looking for that perfect play like they did in game 2, its going to be really frustrating to watch.

Has anyone ever considered that he may be carrying some extra mental baggage given that his brother, Michael, will likely never play in the NHL again and may even spend some time in prison. Surely that is a burden.
